You probably had very little money or money that is in the negatives. I would suggest starting off manager mode in a small league like the MLS because the Premeir League and the SPanish Primera are harder to manage a they have higher slaries and you lose money on your first to years when on away games. In the MLS you will get above 1000 for home games and around 500+ for away games.
