Is the sword The Avenger very good because I have 28 keys I'm wondering is it worth the effort.

No it's not if you want to get it it wont help I would get the one behind the demon door that asks you to give it all you're keys
It's a fair sword, does 180 damage and augmented with lightning and flame.
It looks cool. It's up to you though. There is also one of each gem in the chest with it.
