Well it is Brandon 2006 here and the following is my first review of a game here on SuperCheats and it is of NHL 06 for the XBOX from the good folks at EA Sports. The gameplay is very fun in this game. There is a skill stick that allows you to score some golas from 360 spins, and batting it in from the air, these are definatley a good choice on a penalty shot or a breakaway. Hitting in the game is not as effective as in other NHL games form EA, the hits in this version are usually weaker unless it is by a big, man like Chara or Pronger. The puck has very good physics and makes some suprsising bounce just like in real life. When your using the speed-burst feature your player will take turns wider than when he is skating normaly. The gameplay is excellent in this game and receives a 8/10.
Now, onto the graphics. The player models are not as great as the ones in madden or NBA Live but they are still strong. The boards actually show the glare from the light and reflects players off of them, creating a realistic feel. The ice is .very well done showing shadows and at close view there reflections. The ice also appears to wear as the period goes on, but the skate marks are always in the same place, bring the realism down. The graphics get a 7/10.
Onto the features. The dynasty mode in this game is basically the same as last year where you play 15+ seasons as the GM of the team of your choice. You set your lines, trade players, and sign free agents all while managing the teams funds and also trying to win the Stanley Cup. The create a team mode in NHL 06 is quite weak because it allows you to name them and select a picture for them, but you have to use an existing teams jersey and pick from the free agents or steal your favourite players from other teams. The create a player mode is something else, it allows you to customize almost anything on your player from weight and height to how many bruises and scars he has. The online mode is basically the same as any other EA Sports title with tournaments, quick-match, and opti-match, nothing special there. The feature of NHL 06 get a 6/10.
NHL really doesn\'t have much replay value after you have done 2 seasons and won atleast one cup. There\'s nothing really to unlock, and the game will get old after those two seasons. The online mode is really the only reason to play after you\'ve played through dynasty, and even then at most it only has 50 users online at most which is small for an EA Sports game when Madden and Live have 500-1000 people on at a time. This game is worth the money you pay for it. Overall this game gets a 7/10. Not a must have title but if your a fan of hockey it is well worth it.
