No there is not , there is a valid story based reason for this. Also since the game is rather short, with leveling up and the ability to upgrade different equipment within each playthrough. I would say the developers intended you to play through trying Different survival tactics as you roam the streets of infested London.

That's true you can't keep on with your character. You can do Survival for a much bigger challenge.
