Note - I'm playing with Classic Controller Pro, so button instructions will
reflect that. There will be no help in how to fight battles efficiently. This
game is huge, and unfortunately I'm going solo in undertaking the walkthru.

Enjoy the introduction scene. Shortly afterwards you're thrust into your first
battle. Press L or R to target a monster. Doing so displays the Battle Palette.
Select the "Fight" icon and press A to start the battle. BP can only hold up to
eight arts at once. Once a chr learns more than 8 arts, you may wish to
reorganize BP.

Approach target to auto-attack. Note that if you're too far from a monster, you
can't attack it. Select Arts with Dpad and press A to confirm. You cannot use
an Art when the icon is crossed out.

BOSS - 1x MECHON M82
Just pulverize it, as it stands no chance.

The two chrs introduced are Shulk and Reyn. You control Shulk at the moment,
and immediately next battle starts. LANDMARK - Mechon Wreckage Site is
uncovered.

Note - I'll be adding notes on when certain landmarks are revealed to you. Any
landmark you've been to allows you to warp back to it at any time you desire.
Exceptions are when something in the storyline prevents you from doing that.

When the HP gauge is depleted, the character will be incapacitated. Select Arts
with Dpad and press A to confirm. Use Back Slash to deal damage. Restore HP
with Light Heal. Select who will be healed by pressing up or down on Dpad.

Smite off the Colony Crabble.

You cannot use the same art repeatedly. After using an art the cooldown begins,
and after a set amount of time, cooldown is complete and art can be used again.

Talent arts are arts that are specific to a particular character. Select the
talent arts icon and press A to use it. To use talent arts, the talent gauge
must be full - gauge fills up every time an auto-attack hit connects.

After Crabble croaks, it'll leave behind a treasure chest. Defeated enemies
will drop treasure chests. Press A to open it and take the loot. After you take
the loot, Common Caterpile emerges and green barrier is erected. When green
barrier stops you from escaping, you need to defeat the monster to make the
barrier disappear.

Aggro is the measure of a monster's animosity towards each party member. The
more damage that a monster takes from a party member, the greater the aggro
towards that member. If a member of the party bcomes the target of a monster's
wrath, an Aggro Ring will appear around them. Yellowish arrow denotes direction
of monster.

Some Arts are more effective from certain positions. Shulk's Back Slash deals
more damage if he attacks from behind the monster. This is called the Art's
Bonus Effect.

You should use Aggro Rings to help find the best position. When an Aggro Ring
appears around Reyn, Shulk has the chance to use Back Slash from the rear. If
successful and the Bonus Effect condition is met, the damage value will be
displayed in a greyish circle.

Bash the bug into the ground, and the follow up with tutors on destination and
camera controls. Note that you can review the tutorials at any time. More will
be added as you play the game. At this moment you can check several new
tutorials: battle tactics for Shulk and Reyn, as well as hints on Break, Topple
and Daze statii.

Proceed S towards the destination. On the way practice the new battle system on
a variety of Bunnivs, Skeeters and other menageries. Whenever you come across
glowing ball of light on the ground, take it - this is a Collectable. A tutor
on Collectopaedia follows. You receive an award for filling a row and
collecting all items in the area.

Once you get to destination marker, a scene plays and Reyn leaves for a while.
Tutors on shops, quests and trading will appear. Press A to talk to anyone with
an '!' above their head to initiate a quest.

There are three types of quests:
- Story Quests cannot be missed and must be completed as part of the story.
  Whenever a story quest is active, "QUEST" icon will be displayed at top of
  the screen. In order to proceed with the quest, you have to go to the place
  indicated by red '!'.
- Surprise Quests are activated when you're in the right place at the right
  time. As such all of these are missable.
- Quests from quest givers are most annoying of them all. You have to find the
  right person to give you the quest, and that's not all. Quest givers are
  usually around only during certain hours, which makes them a pain to locate.
  Most quests received from non-named NPCS are completed as soon as you achieve
  your objective. Quests from named NPCs will (usually) require you to return
  to quest giver in order to complete the quest.
- You need to pay special attention to quests with a stopwatch icon. Once you
  proceed too far in the story, you will be unable to complete those quests.
- Completing quests is one way to raise the affinity with an area. New quests
  become available when your affinity with the area increases, and you'll be
  able to trade more items.

The game features over 450+ quests, so you will not go hungry for these. Quest
givers are also noted via '!' in the minimap. At the moment, we're gonna
proceed with the game expeditiously until we receive three party members.
LANDMARK - Main Entrance is unlocked.

For every Landmark and Location you discover you get EXP, AP and SP.
For every level up and unique monster you kill you get Affinity Coins.

Go E to enter Commercial District, and then check with the shop nearby. He's
selling following intermediate Skill Books: Bone Upper, Slit Edge, Hammer
Beast, Wild Down, Back Slash. When you're done dinking around, go N. LANDMARK -
Ether Light and LANDMARK - Gem Man's Stall are uncovered.

Venture E across the bridge, and then hike N. LANDMARK - Central Plaza and
LANDMARK - Fortress Entrance are uncovered. A scene will play when you enter
the fort - now park Shulk in the building to the left and jog all the way to
the back. Hey, it's the Monado, and Dickson. After brief interlude you control
Fiora.

Story Quest - Delivering food

Objective   - Find Shulk and give him the food.

Story quests (as well as any other quest) can be viewed in the quest log. Exit
the house to have a scene with Fiora and Dickson. Run W across the bridge, then
turn N, ignore next bridge and go up series of steps to reach Outlook Park.
LANDMARK - Outlook Park is uncovered.

STORY QUEST COMPLETE! - Delivering Food

Let me write a bit about affinity, which is a very important aspect of the
game. Chrs can shout out an affinity cry to another party member to encourage
or assist them depending on how the battle is going for them. Get close to a
party member and press B - with this you can encourage party members or help
those suffering Daze or Topple. Both actions improve the affinity between the
two party members.

Battle Start Affinity - selecting Fight icon to begin the battle gives you a
chance to achieve BSA. Press B at the right time to rally the party and raise
party's tension.

Burst Affinity - When a critical hit connects or an attack misses, you have a
chance to obtain BA. Press B at the right time to encourage that party member.
This increases the affinity between the two party members and fills the Party
Gauge.

Perfect timing is achieved by hitting the circle precisely. Successful timing
is achieved by pressing the button when the marked is inside the circle. You
fail if you press the button too early or too late.

Heart-to-Heart is possible if an affinity between two party members is deep
enough. Look for the 'heart' icons on the area maps. Each 'heart' icon
indicates a possible Heart-to-Heart. There's a Heart-to-Heart event available
in Outlook Park nearby. The two people involved must be in your party, and
affinity between them must be equal to or higher than the necessary affinity
level.

Damn tutorials... You can either walk back to Weapon lab or warp there. A scene
plays where Reyn attempts to kill Fiora. Jus' kidding. You can now level up
your arts and learn skills by selecting Skill Trees from the menu. I suggest
you read the tutorial closely, as this is a pain to explain.

Party is Shulk and Reyn - skip to Main Entrance. In front of you are two paths,
take the left one. Upon scaling it you reach Tephra Cave entrance. Be advised
that you're likely to run into Evil Ranghrot, which will have an adorned
monster window. LANDMARK - Tephra Cave Entrance is uncovered.

That Evil Rhangrot fella is a unique monster. UM are much stronger than the
other monsters in the field. Defeating UM will award you with better quality
items, as well as AC. There are 3 flavors of UM:
- respawnable UM can be killed as many times as you desire
- quest UM only spawn when appropriate quest is triggered, and don't respawn
- and then there are some enemies which only spawn during an appropriate quest,
  but their monster window isn't adorned
Next, some UM only spawn during certain time of day and/or weather conditions.

Fiora rejoins again, and you get a tutor on party gauge. PG shows the party's
morale. It increases when bonus effects or critical hits occur. To revive a
party member, at least 1 block of PG must be full. Get close to incapacitated
party member and press B to revive him/her.

With three full blocks of PG the party gets linked by blue line, denoting that
you can use Chain Attack. CA is selected by moving the cursor to talent art
icon, then pressing up/down on Dpad to select CA icon and press A to confirm.

Chain attacks are another nifty addition to the battle system. When carrying
out CA, you can select arts for the three members of the party to perform.
During CA any arts that were in cooldown phase will be available regardless.
You can deal substantial damage with CA. Using arts of the same color
consecutively during CA raises the level of damage or recovery. Decide what
type of CA to perform based on the circumstances. Talent arts will chain with
any color, so try our different combos.

After third party member uses their art, Chain Link may be activated. If it
occurs, press B at the right moment and one other party member will be able to
use an additional art. The deeper the affinity between party members, the
easier it is to activate CL. If you're lucky, CL can activate up to 15 times in
a row!

By following this guide you've found 6 locations so far. Remaining ones are:
- Anti-Air Battery 1 - W from Weapon Dev. Lab
- Anti-Air Battery 2 - E from Weapon Dev. Lab
- Anti-Air Battery 3 - S from Residential District
- Hazzai Cape (beware of high lv enemies) - NE from Anti-Air Battery 3
- Cliff Lake - NW from Anti-Air Battery 3
- Agora Shore (beware of high lv enemies) - N from Hazzai Cape

If you talk to Gem Man, you'll get Strength Up II and HP Up II, as well as
tutor on gem slots.

  9PM.

Allow me to explain a bit on monster types. Monster type is shown in target
window. Ordinary monsters won't attack unless you attack them. Target window of
such monsters doesn't have any special icon.
- Visual type monsters will attack when they see your chr. Such enemy will have
  an 'eye' icon in the target window. Generally they do not attack if you're
  higher level than the enemy.
- Sound types monsters will attack when they hear someone run past them. Such
  enemy will have a 'sonar' icon in the target window. Generally they do not
  attack if you're higher level than the enemy.
- Ether type monsters will attack when they detect ether casting nearby. Such
  enemy will have a 'hexagon' icon in the target window. Generally they do not
  attack if you're higher level than the enemy.
- If you are figting a monster near one or more of the same species, the
  kindred monster/s will join the battle. You can recognize kindred monsters by
  '...' icons in monster's target window.

LANDMARK - Tephra Path is unlocked. Proceed W, then N and keep going. LANDMARK
- Mag Mell Ruins is unlocked. Go up the ramp, and then mosey thru two green
doors, turn left and follow Fiora's assets to LANDMARK - Rear Entrance.

Final LANDMARK - Cylinder Hangar is unlocked, and now entire Colony 9 map is
revealed. I suggest you save your game, cos things will heat up in a few
moments. Get to destination marker for several scenes to unfold.

BOSS BATTLE - 2x ANCIENT MACHINE
Yawn, pointless. You'll be briefed on switching targets and party commands.

After taking them down, Colony 9 comes under attack. You can't skip travel at
the moment, so you'll have to hoof it there. Game gives you a chance to system
save, so use it or lose it. Remove all equips from Fiora, jump off the cliff
into water and then leg it for the bridge into Colony 9.

Fiora will leave for a while, and you're engaged in inescapable battle against
Mechon M82. Once you inflict Topple on it, the battle ends and Fiora rejoins.

To flee during a battle, highlight the talent icon and use up/down on Dpad to
select the Flee icon. Press A to stop fighting and run from the monster. My
personal opinion is that fighting Mechon during this time is useless, so I'd
advise that you don't fight anything at all. Head for weapon lab to retrieve
the Monado... but something will prevent you from nabbing it. No way but to
return to central plaza - at this point Fiora leaves the party.

An event battle against 2x Mechon M31 and 1x Mechon 69. You have to kill
everything to proceed to next scene. Dunban joins for next event battle against
1x Mechon M82, 1x Mechon M72 and 2x Mechon 69. Wipe the floor with them, and
then go thru thru commercial district to exit Colony 9.

Shulk steps up and grabs the Monado to wield it. Shulk's talent art has changed
to Activate Monado. Select this command to switch between normal arts and
Monado arts. Monado arts are very effective against Mechon. Whenever you fight
Mechon, use Monado Enchant to grant your allies the ability to damage Mechon
without needing to Topple them. On the other hand, Monado Buster deals major
damage to the enemy.

Event battle VS 1x Mechon M42, 1x Mechon M72 and 1x Mechon M82. Dismantle
everything on the bridge and move towards S bridge to gain access to
residential district.

BOSS BATTLE - LV10 METAL FACE
You can't damage it properly, so instead stand your ground for a minute or so.
What's up, Shulk? Monado not working properly? Monado has no effect on Mechon
with faces. You'll need to inflict Topple before you're able to deal damage. It
may be difficult to inflict Break on large monsters, but is is almost always
possible if part of CA.

BOSS BATTLE - LV10 METAL FACE
Attack Metal Face until PG is full, and then select CA icon from battle
palette. Have Shulk use Stream Edge to inflict Break, and follow up with Reyn's
Wild Down to inflict Topple (or Dunban's Steel Strike). After taking off 50% of
boss' HP, battle is concluded.

Save your game, and a long journey for revenge is now underway. Thought Colony
9 was a big area? You ain't seen nothing yet! Wait till you get to Bionis' Leg.
You can now craft gems at the ether furnace in Gem Man's Stall. Revise gem
crafting tutorial with dilligence, you'll be spending a lot of time with it.

The shop in Colony 9 is selling two more intermediate Skill Books: Light Heal,
Rage. Some new quests are available as well.

Venture S from Escape Pod Bay until a big cave opens up ahead. LANDMARK -
Spring of Grief unlocked. Descend down and you'll find an ether deposit. You
can harvest very pure ether crystals from ether deposits. Once you've exhausted
the supply, return later to gather more. Save your game!

From the spring go S again to view the scene about some dead traders. After
you're thrust into event battle against bunch of Worker Arachnos and 2x
Director Arachno. When battle ends, you're in a small cave with a pond in SE
corner. From this cave exit W, and then turn N to collect Tatty Armor. Then
turn around and proceed for a scene about some strange monsters. Reyn gets
captured by some webbing and you're temporarily solo.

Proceed S, turn SW and you'll enter LANDMARK - Vilia Lake unlocked. A scene of
Reyn being chased will play, and Shulk comments about being able to climb.
Cross the lake and climb the vines. Wherever you're able to climb, an 'up/down'
arrow icon will be displayed. On the top turn right and run down the corridor.
Save your game! Shulk learns new art - Monado Shield.

Visions become important part of the gameplay now. During battle the party will
be able to see in advance the dangers that await. The Vision Tags show
information about what will happen. Upper row consists of following tags:
Attacker tag / Attack tag / Victim tag / Status tag. Lower row is a Time tag,
with timer ticking down as the attack is about to be executed.

Color of the art name tells you what type of art will be used: white text are
talent arts, red text are physical arts, and blue text are ether arts.

Press B near another party member to warn them about future danger before it
becomes a reality. You must have at least 1 block in PG to do that. Warning a
party member will allow you to select an art for them to perform. They will
auto-target the monster that attacked in the vision.

Warning another party member about the future and using their arts might change
the future. When the future changes, the vision tag is destroyed and a new
future is born. Avoid danger by changing the future in your favor.

A monster's talent art can only be blocked using Shield. For this enemy, when
it uses Arachno Crush I talent art, do the following:
- if leader is Shulk, activate Monado and use Shield to change the future
- if leader is Reyn, tell Shulk to use Shield to change the future

The future will change if you Topple (time left until the future comes to pass
will be extended) or Daze the opponent (time left will be extended and the
monster will use a different art). Using CA will pause the timer, postponing
the future.

BOSS BATTLE - LV12 ARACHNO QUEEN, SOLDIER ARACHNO, CAPTAIN ARACHNO, ARACHNO POD
Get rid of Soldiers and Captains first, and then focus on the Queen to smash
her to bits.

After the battle you get Queen's Gut Fluid, which is used to dissolve a net
blocking W tunnel. You can now set up skill links.

Walk down the corridor to exit the cave and enjoy the majestic sized of Bionis
and Mechonis. After scenes end, scale the cliff and run towards E exit for
LANDMARK - Leg Pass to be unlocked. Jolly roger to Escape Pod Bay.

Objective   - Defeat Dark Murakmor on top of Anti-Air Battery 3 in Colony 9.
  It's a lv18 UM, so you may want to come back later to smash it. I killed it
  at 11PM. Return to Sesame, then walk to commercial district entrance and
  examine the lamp opposite of Dunban's. Sesame is planning to blow up Colony 9
  and must be stopped!!! Return to Sesame to wrap this up.
