                     ====================================
                     ==[[Towers, Monsters & Artifacts]]==
                     ====================================

My Life as a Darklord is a tower defense game. You control Mira, a Dark Lord,
who will take control of towers. Located at the top of a tower, is the
crystal as displayed in [image #1]. That is what you are guarding from the
good guys, known as adventurers. Don't forget that you are the bad guy.

If you were to do nothing, the adventurers would climb the tower, nab the
crystal and it would be game over. That's why you must build floors to
heighten your tower. When you place a floor, attatched to it is an
artifact. These artifacts will harm (or in some cases, increase the stats
of your own artifcats and summon monsters) the adventurers, and deducts
either a stat or HP from that adventurer. If that adventurer's HP hits
zero, he dies. (well, not die, but dissapears) Note that building floors
cost NP, or Negative Points, a currency that you are given some at the
start of a battle, and get more as enemies die. NP is reset at the end of
each match.

Artifacts are pretty powerful, but they cannot do their job alone. You will
need monsters, which can be obtained as a reward for certain stages. From
the battle menu, select "Summon Monster", and you can summon a monster
on any of the floors that your artifcats are on. You can summon up to 3
monsters on most floors, though some may limit you to only 2, 1, or sometimes
no adventurers per floor. These are similar to artifacts, but the floor does
not crumble when a monster dies.

The other currency in Darklord is Karma. Between battles, you can invest
Karma into any monster you currently have to level it up on the world map.
Leveling it up on the world map gives it extra attack, HP, and better
effects. However, in order to get these increased effects, in battle,
you have to select "Power Up" from the battle menu and use it on one of your
monsters. This will cost NP, though very little.

                            ================
                            ==[Attributes]==
                            ================

Monsters have different attributes associated with them. Each one is
assigned an attack power, max HP, speed, class, and an effect. All
adventuers also have these attributes, with the addition of target, and
battle timer.

The first attribute is attack power - this determines the amount of HP
subtracted from the enemy upon a hit. This is one of the most important
attributes, combined with speed, as this is what slays your foes. Same
goes for adventurers, also. Using [Bravery] will increase this stats, while
[Bio] decreases this stat.

Max HP is the amount of HP your monster has. Likewise, if your monsters
run out of HP, they'll dissapear. Your monster starts with the max HP,
and if damaged, they can only heal to the max HP.

Speed is how fast a monster or adventurer goes. There is a bar below the
HP bar, and when it fills up, that monster or adventurer can attack. The bar
fills up at a rate depending on the speed. With the exception of Healers,
if a bar is filled up and there is no enemy, it will save it until an
enemy comes. You can cleverly use this to ambush adventurers with monsters
with normally low speed. If more than one adventurer or monster have their
bar filled up and are about to attack, the order will go in the amount
of the highest speed. Speed can be increased using [Haste], slowed down
using [Slow], or temporarily stopped completely with either [Sleep] or
[Stun].

                              ===========
                              ==[Class]==
                              ===========
There are five classes of creatures - and every single object, whether
monster, artifact, or even enemy adventurers fit into one of these.
There are MELEE, MAGIC, RANGED, GENERIC, and HEALING.

The melee/magic/ranged work in a triangular based pro and con cycle, or,
a la Rock/Paper/Scissors. Melee does more damage against Ranged, but less
against Magic. Magic do more against Melee, but less against Ranged. Ranged
do more again Magic, but less against Melee.

Generic's have no weaknesses, but at the same time, do not have any strengths
either. Healers work a similar way - they have no strengths or weaknesses,
however, instead of attacking, they heal themselves and allies on the same
floor as them.

Using these checks and balances is a simple but vital part of conquering
opponents - with the wrong classes, you'll most likely lose at every single
stage.

                             ===============
                             ==[[Effects]]==
                             ===============
There are several effects that do various things to an enemy. An effect is
an attribute that when healing (for Healers) or attacking (all others) a
status effect is given. For example, an Ochu has the Poison LV2 ability. If
Ochu attacks, the enemy attacked would be afflicted with LV2 Poison.

Using effects properly can give you the upper hand in a match.

                              ============
                              ==[Spells]==
                              ============
In a pinch, you can use a spell. Spells can be accessed by selecting "Use
Item" from the battle menu, and will release either a heal to your monsters,
or damage to your foes. Note that you can also attack on the crystal floor,
and right outside the tower, assuming the adventurer is visible.

Welcome to Chapter 1. After some cut-scenes introducing the storyline,
you'll arrive at the world map. Use the control pad in the direction
you'd like to move the cursor, and place the cursor over the lit-up sphere
to begin that stage.

Your first tower. Your handy Tonberries should be able to give you advice
on how to do it, so this guide is mostly just for consistency. Yeah,
complete consistency. Either that, or your horrible. Joking, joking, of
course, for that one E-Mail I'm probably going to get of someone being
offended. Anyways, I ramble, let's continue on.

---
x1 Trainee + x1 Trainee + x1 Trainee + x1 Trainee
--------------------------------------------------

Place down 5 Iron Ball floors, and those four should take care of four of the
trainees. The fourth one, however, should destroy the first three Iron Ball
floors. As it requires 4 to kill one Trainee, and you have one left, build
three replacement Iron Ball floors.

---
x1 Trainee
-----------

The floors you replaced should take care of this last Trainee.
           *

VICTORY!  *            *

           *
When the last Trainee has been slain, you'll be prompted with a victory
message. Though your reward is only 15 Karma, you will be given 15 more for
playing. Whether you win or lose, you'll be given participation Karma, very
nice.

You'll also get a neat new toy - a Goblin. Tonberries will show you how to
use them on the next stage - you'll need them.

                         %%
                       %%% %

Now time for the second tower. With Goblins in your arsenal, the second stage
will ironically be much easier than the first.

---
x1 Trainee + x1 Trainee + x1 Trainee + x1 Trainee2 + x1 Trainee2 + x1 Trainee3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What, all six at once? Yup. Just place 1 Iron Ball floor, and stick 3
Goblins on it. Just watch them battle it out - a 100% guaranteed win. The 2's
and 3's next to the Trainee's in this guide mean they're Level 2 or 3
respectively, but it'll make no difference - they'll still clobber the poor
guys before they even get a chance to get to the next floor.
           *
*-*-*         *
VICTORY!  *            *
*-*-*-*-*      *
           *

Upon victory you'll get 34 Karma and a ... nothing. Yeah, some rounds you'll
get no additional reward. Sucks, doesn't it? Oh well, carry on to the
Gnalgri Plains, the first non-optional stage.

This time, for those who were lazy and skipped the tutorial stages, you guys
have to do this one. Though a bit more, it's not too much harder than Old
Vanveige Road.

Same deal as last time. Place one Iron Ball floor with 3 Goblins and watch
them fall.

---

2 Trainees? Gasp! They'll come out twice, so you'll need an extra floor. All
it requires is one more Iron Ball floor with 3 more Goblins, and put your
controller down until the Victory prompt.
           *

Karma. Onwards.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Can't teach an old dog new tricks I suppose. Iron Ball w/ 3 Goblins should
easily do the trick.

---
x2 Trainee3
------------

Build another Iron Ball w/ 3 Goblins, that'll take care of all of the
trainees. Prepare for Black Mages, now.

---
x1 Black Mage
--------------

These guys are faster, (they attack twice) entire floor attacking, do double
damage, and recieve half damage. That's because they're Magic and you're
Melee. However, you two Goblin Floors should hold up for this Black Mage.

---
x2 Black Mage
--------------

! For you too long; didn't readers, make 3 more Iron Ball floors and fill them
  with Goblins.

However, it won't for these guys. As soon as the first dies, these two will
take their spot in the two floors. You should know the top one won't be
enough. Build another floor and fill it with Goblins. Meanwhile, the first
floor should be cleared after one attack by the Goblins. Leave the floor be,
you won't have enough time for them to gain attack power.

Your third floor will then be occupied by the Yuke from the first floor. Now,
the second floor Yuke will skip past the first floor Yuke, so build a fourth
floor. That will take care of the fourth one, however, for the third floor
one, the Goblins from the first floor had only dished out one attack, so it
will leapfrog the fourth floor Yuke. You'll have to build a fifth one - and
yes, that'll take care of it. Phew.
           *

VICTORY!  *            *

For a reward, you'll be given 73 Karma. You should have 200+ now, and you can
spend it on upgrading the floor under EXPAND.

You'll also be given the Dark Dresser. It won't be of much use next stage,
though in late levels it will be.

---

No change of plans, your current 2-6 set-up will take care of the lone Black
Mage.

---
x2 Black Mage
--------------

These smart Yukes will attempt to pull a similar stunt to last time - this
time, however, you only have enough NP for five floors with two missing
Goblins at the time. When the first Black Mage dies, add in two Goblins to
the fifth floor - the Black Mages will be to the second by the time you have
the NP to add one to the first floor.

End result: No Goblin first floor, 3 Goblins second/third/fourth, 3 Goblins
fifth floor.

---
x2 Black Mage2
---------------

2 more Black Mages, appear, except they're Level 2. Build a sixth floor, with
Goblins on it and it will take care of it. Haha, nice job - it took me a while
before I figured out I needed that sixth floor.

FORK IN THE ROAD! If you went without upgrading to 10 Floors, it is very
                  possible albeit somewhat difficult to do it with five.
                  The key is to keep at least one Goblin on the floors at all

Q: How do I speed up the adventurers early game.
A: Press A. Most asked question by far.

-

Q: How do you have information about DLC - I only have the Darklord Armory
   pack.
A: Square Enix accidently released it early for Europeans. They were able to
   buy it for a few days after Darklord's release. They then, however,
   removed it and you can no longer get it. DLC is to be released on a strict
   schedule, which can be located in-game using the Operations Guide located
   in the Wii Menu.

-

Q: You mentioned Chapter 6 in the Table of Contents though I do not have
   access to it even though Iv'e beaten the game?
A: It is DLC, and the chapter is Wanted on Vacation. It opens up a new world
   map, some new stages, and some story. It costs $5, or 500 Wii Points.

-

Q: I cannot beat -any chapter- even though I followed your instructions!
A: As you get later in the game there are more and more customizable
   options to the point where end-game, there are thousands of possible
   level-up combinations. I have to keep my walkthrough more and more
   vague as I get later in the game. However, my walkthrough was made as I
   actually played and beat the level, so I am never too far off no matter
   what path you chose.

Goblins are first used on Stage 1-2, and will be used from the beginning to
the end of the game. They aren't too costly and attack at a decent rate.
They're also great against Ranged attacks, as they're able to hit multiple
times, unlike Behemoths later in the game.

[10] --> [15] --> [20] --> [25] --> [NA]

Behemoths are part of the 3 big guys that do heavy damage. Doing more than
a Level 5 Scorpion at Level 1, and nearly doubling that at Level 5, these
guys can knock out Rangers, Generics, Healers, and when combined, even Melees
before they get a chance to attack. The downside is their slowness. They are
best paired with Haste, or they can be fully charged, and hope to 1HKO
enemies.

[10] --> [10] --> [15] --> [15] --> [NA]

Scorpions may have higher attack, but that's to make up for their slightly
lower speed. However, they're great for knocking out Chapter 2 and 3 Magic
users, and if their attack is fully charged, will make an OK replacement
for getting extremely-quick Rangers. Their HP is rather low, however, and die
easily. Some Chapter 2 Melees will 1HKO them, so you have to level them up
early, or take a chance and stick them with Goblins and hope they take the
hit.

+*-*----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-+  +*-*---*-*+   +*------*+  +*---------*+
+*--            Ochu          --*-+  +*--110--*+   +*Ranged*+  +*  9/8/6  *+

[10] --> [15] --> [20] --> [25] --> [NA]

With the highest raw attack power in the non-DLC game, along with adding a
Poison effect, which, when added, brings the actual attack power to nearly
100, means that Ochus are going to be used frequently. However, they also
hold another record - tied for the slowest in the game also. It's
reccommended that you place these on a floor with full attack power, because
unless the adventurer is painfully slow, even with full Haste and maxed out
speed, the Ochu will probably only attack once - occasionally he won't even
get an attack in. Ochu's can conquer Mages, other Rangers, Generics, Healers,
and with their amazing attack power, possibly even Melees.

[10] --> [10] --> [15] --> [20] --> [NA]

Bombs are great for tackling Warriors and Knights found all over the game, and
aren't too bad against Magic users. They also have the second-highest speed
in the non-DLC game, making up for low attack. However, this also means
they're affected by the Haste curse: meaning, along with Mus, the only
monster to not get the full effects of Haste.

+*-*----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-+  +*-*---*-*+   +*-------*+  +*---------*+
+*--          Minion          --*-+  +*--100--*+   +* Magic *+  +*  8/6/4  *+

[15] --> [15] --> [20] --> [20] --> [NA]

Minions have a nice, even 100 NP cost to work with, meaning that you can
usually fit these in a floor, and it's the cheapest of the large monsters.
However, they have the highest Level-Up cost, as well as the worst HP
ratio - not much more than a Goblin. They do, however, easily eliminate
those late-game Knights and Warriors. They also have the Guard ability at
level 2 and above. This is can either be a savior or a nightmare, though
with their low HP, most likely the latter.

+*-*----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-+  +*-*---*-*+   +*-------*+  +*---------*+

[03] --> [05] --> [06] --> [06] --> [07]
[05] --> [05] --> [10] --> [10] --> [NA]

Mu's have the highest speed in the game, however, their attack is painfully
though. But they have, using a ratio, one of the highest climbs in terms of
attack. It is highly reccommended you always max them out - as it only costs
50 NP to level and max a Mu. Another great time to use them is when you are
low on NP, and can't afford a Goblin, but you can afford a Mu. Place a Mu to
stall it until you can get more NP.

However, to be frank, I've found little other uses other than low-on-NP
situations. I'd really just stay away from using Mu as anything other than
defense.

+*-*----*-----*-----*-----*-----*-+  +*-*---*-*+   +*-------*+  +*---------*+
+*--           Shade          --*-+  +*--045--*+   +*Generic*+  +*  8/6/4  *+

[68] --> [87] --> [102] --> [116] --> [136]

[10] --> [13] --> [15] --> [17] --> [20]
[15] --> [15] --> [20] --> [20] --> [NA]

Nearly half the speed, yet slightly less damage as a Goblin, Shades aren't
the most respected monsters around the Darklord community. Their HP is bad,
and have little weaknesses. However - they may fail miserably as offense,
though they have access to Guard. Sure, Minions have it too, but they cost
over double as a Shade, and requires Level 2.

The best time to use one would be in a panic situation where you have a near
depleted HP artifcact, and an adventurer is about to attack. Stick a Shade,
and he'll take the hit for the artifact. Pretty useful, however, sometimes
it's easier simply to just eliminate the enemy rather than waste one vital
block on the floor. Your choice.

[15] --> [15] --> [15] --> [15] --> [15]

The Cactuar is the first healer you get, and with a not too shabby speed to
healing ratio, the Cactuar is actually by a sliver and in terms of healing,
the best healer. However, the bad thing about all healers in general, is
would it be easier to just place another Ochu or another power-house, rather
than wasting a valuable spot on defense? The monsters auto-heal slowly on
their own, at just a bit lower than a Healer's healing rate.

[15] --> [15] --> [15] --> [15] --> [15]

The Sphere may be slower and only heal 1 more HP than a Cactuar, but they're
equipped with the handy Bravery skill. However, in order for Bravery to work,
it must be healing a unit - and that only happens if he is damaged. BUT, the
great thing about Bravery is, not only does it add some attack, it also
wipes clear status effects like stun, and poison. But also, this means it
might erase positive ones too, like Haste. Be careful where you place your
Spheres.

Iron Ball is the strongest floor out there, and it's the most efficient for
raw damage. It also allows all 3 units out on to the field, so it's there for
those who want a quick and easy massacre. It's great for withstanding those
pesky artifact targeting Rangers. However, it's weak to Magic and it's HP
isn't the greatest. It's very prone to pesky Illusionists without a good
Guard set-up.

Thunder Stand may not do much damage, but they can Stun. Combining a Thunder
Stand, and three maxed Ochus can kill even the strongest of, even MELEEs
with one hit. The reason is that Stun combined with a filled action timer
bar will allow all your monsters to hit first. However, Thunder Stands are
very, very prone to Rangers, and can even be knock out in one hit by high
enough leveled Thieves.

Poison Harp is great before you have access to Ochu's, as they are the only
means of Poison, as well as the only means of a Ranged attack. They excel
against any class, due to their Poison doing equal damage to all classes,
but they do 7 extra damage to Mages. Their Poison also gets to erase any
positive effects your enemies may have. Though, to be honest, once you get
Ochus you'll find this more and more useless. Though before-hand, use these
often.

Evil Puppet Shows are the cheapest of all floors, meaning they can stall
rather well. But what's best is that they can be used to protect floors
above, it's best used on All hitting adventurers. They're also cheap to
build and replace.

Slow Clocks will cast Slow on the enemy - and it lasts for the floor above it
with no monsters, and this floor with a little bit for the floor above it
if you have monsters fighting. This is the most useful against those Thieves,
it slows them nearly to the speed of a Goblin! However, they can only fit
one monster, and since their rather cheap, it's best to leave them alone to
get the full efficiency out of it, and just replace it with only 30 NP if it
collapses.

Dark Dresser casts a permanent (well, until the tower ends or the monsters
die) Shield effect on monsters, halfing their recieved damage - which is
great for your glass cannon monsters such as Scorpions and Minions. But,
another amazing thing is that it ONLY costs 25 NP! An amazing deal, and
great if you're low on NP, and even greater if you build vertically.
Unfortunatly, though, it only can carry 2 adventurers at once, and it does
not do ANYTHING in offense, and besides Shield, nothing in defense.

A Hasted Ochu with a Slowed monster .. will attack with near the speed of a
Scorpion or Goblin - that's the power of a Haste Clock. They increase your
speed by 2 points - which makes Goblins move at speeds of Mu's, and makes
Scorpions double speed. There's lots of uses of Haste Clock, but it's best
combined with an empty Slow Clock under it.

Stun is a status effect that stops the battle timer from moving as well as

+-Bio-+    % reduced

percentage is increased.

+*-----*+--- [??] -->  [??] --> [??] --> [??]
+-Drain-+
+*-----*+

Drain is a status effect similar to poison, than when initiated, deals
damage to the adventurer afflicted. However, part of that damage goes to the
artifact, who uses that energy to heal the monsters. In a nutshell, it steals
the enemie's health. Presumably as the level goes up, the damage dealt, how
many time in a duration the damage is dealt, and the percentage healed is
increased as the level goes up.

+-Haste-+ how much speed is increased (decrease X amount of speed from

Haste is a status effect that increases the battle speed of an ally. As the
level goes up, the amount is presumably increased, though the only known
Haster only has L4 Haste.

Dark Dresser

+*-----*+--- [??] --> [??] --> [??] --> [??]
+-Guard-+
+*-----*+

Guard is an infinite effect that cannot be cast on anyone. If an artifact is
on the floor with a monster with Guard, the monster will take the damage for
the artifact. This does not work on entire floor attacks.

---
Minion (L2+ only), Shade

+*------*+--- No levels.
+-Shield*+
+*------*+

Shield is an effect that is continuous. If a monster or artifact on the
floor has the Shield effect, it automatically comes in place when an enemy
attacks. It reduces damage by one half.

+*-----*+--- No levels.
+-Clear-+
+*-----*+

Clear is a status effect that is given to the Void Fountain and some
enemies. Clear wipes away all status effects - including Bravery, so I
wouldn't pair up a Sphere and a Void Fountain.

---
Void Fountain

+*------*+--- No levels.
+-Summon-+
+*------*+

Summon is given to the Summon Mirror. When an adventurer arrives and the
attack gauge is filled, it will summon another monster (at random) that is
already on your floor for no NP. The monster will remain on that floor
permanently (or until it dies)

---
Summon Mirror

+*------*+--- No levels.
+Teleport+

Teleport is given to the Abyss Crane artifact, and when an adventurer is
on the floor, it will teleport them to the bottom of the tower.

If you need to contact me with criciticism, advice, praise, thanks, or
pretty much anything - even if it's negative, that's not downright rude,
look at the bottom of the section. If you need help with the game, you can
also contact me.

I may or may not respond to my own digression to any questions - even if it
follows the rules. This may or may not be intentional.

If this guide is more than 2 years old, do not expect a response. Look at my
newer guides, as I create new E-Mails every few years because of a spam
