He was built using the bones of the first Godzilla. He first appeared in "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla", where he fought Godzilla twice; both ending with Godzilla fleeing. The first battle, however, also ended with him going on a rampage, destroying a good portion of Tokyo. This problem was fixed once he ran out of energy, and it wasn't long before he battle Godzilla a second time. He later appeared in "GOdzilla: Tokyo S.O.S". In this movie, the twin Mothra Faries warned scientists not to rebuild Kiryu, because "men should not touch the souls of the dead". This warning was ignorned, however, because Kiryu was Japan's only defense against Godzilla. In the end, however, Kiryu grabbed Godzilla and dove into the ocean, and he was never seen again. MOVE SET AND STATS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stats ----- Attack: 5/8 Defense: 5/8 Speed: 5/8 Weapons: 4/8 Weak Against: Electric Resists: Edged, Alien energy, Radiation, Poison Inflicts: Edged, Blunt, Explosive, Electric, Ice Kiryu is a pretty balanced character, though he leans slighlty more towards close ranged combat, due to his 4/8 weapons rank. Despite his high defense, he's best when used a an aggressive fighter, though his relatively even stats allow for varied strategies. Move Set -------- A-Jab Weak attack. Low damage. ^A-Uppercut Kiyur does and uppercut. Medium damage, <A-Plasma Sword Kiryu stabs forwards with his electric blade. If you do the attack again, he'll do a left-right slash. Medium-High damage. >A-Grand Slam Kiryu slams his fist into the ground. Medium damage. VA-Dual slam Kiryu does a downwards strike with both of his hands. Medium damage. B-Kick Weak attack. Low damage. ^B-Spinning Air Kick Kiryu jumps into the air and spins around. Low-High damage. <B-Round house Kiryu does a jumping round house. High damage. >B-Two Foot Kick Kiryu activates his boosters and slides across the ground. Medium damage. VB-Stomp Kiryu slams his foot into the ground. Low damage. ^AB-Tail Uppercut Kiryu does a "tail-round house". High damage. <AB-Tail Skewer(left) Kiryu does a forward stab with his tail. Low damage >AB-Tail Skewer(right) Kiryu does a forward stab with his tail. Low damage VAB-Tail Sweep Kiryu slams his tail into the ground, and then spins around. Low damage A+B+C+Z-Absolute Zero Cannon Kiryu's chest opens, and he fires a blue laser that freezes anything it touches. Unfortunately, it's angled downwards. (This is NOT intentional, by the way. You could call it a glitch) Because of this, it's best used when in the air. High damage and freezes. C(hold)- Maser beam Kiryu shoots and electric beam from his mouth. Medium damage. C(tap)- Missiles Kiryu shoots missiles from his back. Low damage. Shake the Nunchuck+Z(hold)-Hover Kiryu uses his boosters to hover over the ground. Z+Shake the nunchuck-Charge Kiryu uses his boosters to charge forwards. Unlike most monsters, he doesn't travel much fasters than he normally would when running. Medium damage. Shake nunchuck+shake Wiimote- Throw Kiryu grabs the enemy, stabs them with his blade, and then throws them. High damage. MONSTER STRATEGIES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ King Ghidorah ------------- King Ghidorah, if used correctely, can easily destroy Kiryu. To prevent this from happening, you should always keep some energy, in case he decides to use his Triple Electric beam, which can be VERY dangerous due to Kiryu's weakness towards electricity. The best advice, however, is to get up close and beak him down with your A and B moves (don't use AB moves too often, they're too weak). Due to his lack of speed, Ghidorah won't be able to keep up with your fast attacks. I suggest using your PLasma sword combo, because it's fast and very powerful. Other than that, do your best to parry his attacks, and keep him on the defensive. Avoid long range combat, however. If you run out of energy, Ghidorah will decimate you with his Triple Electric Beam. Destoroyah --------- Destoroyah. The most over-powered character in the game. Not only does his Horn Katana do MASSIVE amounts of damge, it also goes through gaurds and it doesn't even use any energy like it did in the two last games. Your main priority is prevent the use of this weapon. To do so, you'll need to keep up a steady barrage of attacks, charges, and throws. A good chain of attacks is <A(x2), Charge, >B, ^A, A+B+C+Z, throw. This way, you'll force him backwards with two sword strikes, then follow up with a charge. Once you do this, hit him with a Two foot kick to close the distance. After this, use an Uppercut to knock him off of his feet. Then, as soon he lands pn the ground, get up close and use the AZC. Once he's frozen, run up to him and throw him. This combo leaves very little room for Destoroyah to use his Horn Katana, and also deals a ton of damage. If he does manage to get in a HK attack, hit him with an uppercut, which will give you time to regroup. Another thing you'll want to do is to always make sure you have energy, in case Destoroyah wants to use his Micro-oxygen beam on you (which is particularly effective against Kiryu, due to his electricity weakness) Moguera ------- Moguera, master of long-ranged combat. Since Kiryu isn't as good at long-ranged combat as he is at close-ranged combat, you'll want to stay as close to Moguera as possible. If Moguera manages to get some distance between you and him, let him use up all of his energy. If he doesn't, force him into a beam fight to finish the rest off. This way, he'll either have to rely on melee attacks, or risk charging. Either way, he's screwed. Some Moguera users, however, have managed to become good at both long-ranged AND close-range combat. If you happen to run into a person like this, the best strategy is to balance offense and defense. Try to parry as many attacks as possible, and exploit Moguera's low defense. Mecha King Ghidorah ------------------- MKG can be quite a pain due to his tasers. Said tasers take away Kiryu's advantages, which are speed and a constant offense. While tased, MHG will more than likely hit you with a powerful Gravity beam blast, which will probably do a ton of damage, if timed right. The only way to avoid this is by, well, not getting hit by the tasers, which is easier said than done. The only other strategy is to get up close and spam Uppercuts and Plasma sword strikes, in order to keep MKG off of his feet. Unlike most monsters, I DO suggest using Kiryu's Maser beam. But first, you'll have to make sure that you get MKG on the ground, or he'll use his shiled and absorb your beam. You should also try to hit him with you're AZC as often as possible. GENERAL STRATEGIES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Offense ------- This is one of the most effective strategies. Your priority is hitting your opponent, not giving them any time to hit you with their own attacks. The only thing you'll have to worry about is parries. Avoid attacking when you know your oppnent will parry you. Also, be sure to mix you're attacks, because if you create a pattern, your opponent will be able to strike back. Good offensive attacks: Plasma sword Grand Slam Roundhouse Two foot Kick Dual Slam Uppercut Spinning Air Kick Charge Good against: Destoroyah Mecha King Ghidorah Baragon Biollante Fire Rodan Mothra Mechagodzilla 2 Moguera Space Godzilla Defensive -------- Your main priority is blocking/parrying opponents, and attacking when you find an opening. Also, it's best to keep enemies in front of you, because you obviously can't block strikes from behind. Don't be too offensive. If you're opponent manages to parry an attack, you're in for some major damage. Good Defensive attacks: Tail Sweep Charge Tail Skewer Uppercut Tow Foot Kick Good Against: Megaguirus Anguirus Titanosaurus King Caesar Mechagodzilla 1 Obsidius Counter ------- Your priority is parrying strikes, and then following with your own attacks. This is an affective strategy, but it's hard to master. This is particularly usefull against strong opponents such as Orga and King Ghidorah. Good Counter attacks: Plasma Sword Uppercut Grand Slam Tail Uppercut Good against: King Ghidorah Gigan Megalon Godzilla Orga Krystalak Varan Kiryu Jet Jaguar Adaptation ---------- Your main priority is memorizing your opponent's battle pattern, and adjusting to counter it. This strategy is affective against foes who heavily rely on a specific pattern, yet it won't do crap against a person who knows how to mix up their attacks. This is the hardest strategy to master, as you have to be able to quickly adapt to any situation. Good Adaptation moves: Any Good Against: Everything Original -------- Since Kiryu is one of, if not the most balanced character, chances are, he'll be able to follow any strategy you feel like using. For example, you could mix long-range and defensive to get a Tank based strategy. Or, you could mix long-range and close-range to get a Constant-Offense based strategy. ANTI-KIRYU STRATEGIES ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are two main Anti-Kiryu strategies. Long-range, and Close-range. Depending on the monster you use and your personal preferences, you will have to either choose one of these two, or try to make your own. Close-Range Monsters: Destoroyah Orga Gigan Anguirus Megaguirus Jet Jaguar Titanosaurus Godzilla King Caesar Megalon Varan Baragon Kiryu Long-Range Monsteres: Space Godzilla Fire Rodan King Ghidorah Mecha King Ghidorah Moguera Biollante Mechagozilla 1 Mechagodzilla 2 Mothra Krystalak Obsidius Close-Range ----------- As the name implies, you'll be fighting Kiryu hand-to-hand. Focus on parrying, attacking, and blocking. Monsters with a decent amount of strength, speed, or both are best when used as offensive players. Now, here are some things you'll have to remember: -Kiryu's Electric Blade can be blocked, but not parried. -Kiryu can use the AZC whenever he wants, as long as he has four energy cells. -Kiryu is balanced, allowing for various strategies. Be ready to deal with a new one each time you encounter a new Kiryu user. -Kiryu has a five out of eight in everything exept for weapons, in which he has a four. This makes him a decent melee monster, so don't let him get the upperhand. In order to defeat Kiryu, you'll have to figure out how to avoid getting hit. Obvious? Yes. Does everyone actually do so? No. Block his Plasma Sword at all closts. If he gets those two hits in, he'll butcher you. However, if you manage to block both of the strikes, he'll be left open to attack. Make use of this brief period of time and uppercut him. If he tries to blast you with his Maser, either start a beam fight, or ignore the damage and get as close as you can, in order to grab him or something. If he tries to get up close and use his AZC, charge him. That way, he'll be pushed backwards AND fire his cannon, obviously resulting in a waste of four energy cells. If Kiryu tries to fling himself towards you, either counter with an Uppercut or some other anit-air attack, or charge. If you get your timing right and hit him with an Uppercut, he'll fall to the ground. If you charge, you'll either hit him (also resulting in him falling to the ground), or he'll fly right over your head. Long-Range ---------- The key to mastering Long Range combat is knowing when to start a beam fight, when to charge your weapon, and when to go in and finish offthat energy cell. -Kiryu only has a 4/8 in weapons. Use this to your advantage as best you can. -Kiryu is weak to Electricity. -His missiles are weak, but if all four sets are fired, they can do some decent damage. -Always keep your distance. Even if he tries to get closer, focus on getting away, not on attacking him with your weapon. Always be close to cover. If he can't hit you with melee attacks or his beam, he'll probably try to throw a building at you. Exploit his weakness towards electricity. King Ghidorah, MKG, Destoroyah, Kiryu(gasp), and Mothra inflict electric damage. Only approach him when you need to knock off one of those energy cells. The purpose of a Long-Range based strategy is attacking your opponent from afar. LEGAL STUFF ~~~~~~~~~~~ Disclaimer: ----------- This FAQ may not be used by anyone.
