Who is this Frieza guy? **************************** Frieza is the major villain of the (aptly named) Frieza Sage of Dragonball Z. His battle with Goku on the Planet Namek is the catalyst for Goku's first transformation into a super saiyan. Frieza rules the galaxy with an iron fist, content to let his elite warriors fight his battles for him, as until the Z fighters arrived, he hadn't encountered a challenge in years. Frieza is first seen subjegating the Saiyan people as his shock trooper, cowing the mighty King Vegeta into a sniveling sycophant. Eventually, Frieza decided that the Saiyan people, with the slight chance of transforming into Super Saiyans, posed too great a threat to continue to exist. Frieza sent his soldiers to slaughter the Saiyans that were conquering other planets, and went to Planet Vegeta to deal with the source of the problem himself. One saiyan, Bardock, tried to fight back while the rest of his people died in ignorance, but was slaughtered with the rest of his planet when Frieza used his Death Ball to blow up the the core of the planet. 7 (Known) Saiyans survived this purge. Broly and his father survived because they had dissapeared to a distant planet long before the purge. Tarble, the younger son of King Vegeta, was so weak he was sent to another distant planet and was forgotten. Goku, the youngest son of Bardock, was sent to Earth, where he struck his head and forgot his mission and a baby, beginning the Dragonball Saga. Prince Vegeta, son of the late King Vegeta, Nappa, head of the Royal Guard and Raditz, the oldest (known) son of Bardock were all conscripted by Frieza, and kept around as planet conquerors and amusement for Frieza. Eventually, this hubris on Frieza's part backfired as Raditz and Nappa were killed on Earth. During the battle that led to their deaths, their Scouters recorded and transmitted the mention of the legendary dragonballs, which could grant the user their wishes. Seeking the original dragonballs, Frieza and his minions, Vegeta and the Z Fighters head to the Planet Namek. On Namek, Frieza's soldiers are defeated one by one by the Z Fighters until Frieza's Elite Ginyu Force is called in to deal with the problem. Unfortunately, the Ginyu Force is all but eliminated and in the end Frieza must stand alone. His seemingly weak form (he is barely 4 feet tall and hovers around in a wheelchair ala Professor X for most of the series) is shown to be a clever ruse as he reveals his true power through multiple transformations, eventually defeating everyone but Goku, who is barely able to stand up to his final form. However, Frieza's ego is his undoing as during the fight he pushes Goku over the edge and gives birth to his greatest fear: the super saiyan. Realizing his mistake, he uses his Death Ball to once again set off a chain reaction in the planet's core, giving Goku 5 Minutes to defeat him and get off the planet, but Frieza only needs to survive, as he knows he can survive the blast AND survive in the depths of space. Frieza is cut in half using his own move, but is revived by Goku and in a last ditch effort tries to use that life energy to finish Goku, but is seemingly killed in the process. Several Years later, Frieza lands on Earth with his father, King cold, cybernetically enchanced (the DBZ:BT3 Character Mecha Frieza) and more powerful than ever. Unfortunately, due to a more serious threat from the future, a more powerful super saiyan (Future Trunks) cuts him to pieces without a fight. Cellular samples taken from this battle would later be used to create the Amalgam Villain, Cell. Frieza appears later occupying Hell, allying himself with Cell, and ultimately becoming a recurring joke in the series, as it is estimated in the Dragonball Z Special Goku and Friends Return that the children Goten and Trunks could have killed him easily, and that in hindsight, Goku doesn't think he was much of an opponent. However, I choose to remember Frieza as he was - murdering helpless Namekians, a cocky, powerful and cunning foe of the type that would never be seen again in the series. _______________________________________________________________________________ *********************** s03. Why choose Frieza? *********************** Frieza is the most versatile character in the game, bar none. While some characters can transform as many times as Frieza, none of them have the variety that comes with the Emperor of the Galaxy. Frieza alternates between every form of character in the game (with the exception of the 'giant' class). This ability gives him the power to go toe to toe with any other character in the game. _______________________________________________________________________________ *************** s04. The Basics *************** *THIS GUIDE IS WRITTEN WITH THE CLASSIC CONTROLLER IN MIND! Guide to the Classic Controller D-Pad - Horizontal Directional Movement L-Stick - Horizontal Directional Movement R-Stick - See Below Up - Switch character Down - Transform Left/Right - Choose next character L Button - Vertical Move Down R Button - Vertical Move Up ZL Button - Charge Ki ZR Button - Life Blast (Double Tap, Costs 1/3 Health Bar, stops any combo) A Button - Guard B Button - Dash X Button - Ki Blast Y Button - Melee + (Start) - Pauses the game, brings up menu - (Select) - No Function #################### GENERAL FRIEZA NOTES #################### *IMPORTANT* A Typical Health Bar is 10,000 HP. A Typical Non-Custom Frieza starts with 30,000 HP, and cannot go above this cap when regaining health by using transformations. Frieza regains 5,000 HP with every transformation, save the last one, where he gains a full Ki bar. All of Frieza's forms can have up to 6 Blast Stocks, a number only rivaled by a couple other characters. Frieza starts with 1 Ki Bar, 2nd to Final Forms Start with 2 Ki Bars and Full Power Frieza starts with 3 Ki Bars Once you transform with Frieza, you cannot return to a previous version, nor can you go straight to his final form. It is also important to note that Frieza has one of the fastest basic Ki Blasts in the game, making for great quick hits and finishes to weakened opponents. _______________________________________________________________________________ *********** s05. Frieza DP COST 6 *********** ###### STATS: ###### HP: 30,000 Starting Ki: 1 Bar Max Blast stocks: 6 Melee: Power 250 M Speed: Fast Ki: Power 260, 4 Hit Max K Speed: Fast Ki Charge: 8 Seconds (0 to Sparking) ################## BLAST STOCK MOVES: ################## ------------- Psychokinesis (ZL+A) ------------- Close Range 2 Blast Stocks Instant Use Power 510 (If used at Melee Range) Hits 3 Stun Duration: 4 Seconds Max. This is not an attack move, and costs too many blast stocks to be used that way. I do not recommend this move if you are planning using the health benefits of transforming with Frieza, as it sets you back time wise. Otherwise, this is a great move. In addition to doing minor damage, it also stuns the opponent. Great to use against an incoming opponent to turn the tide, or to freeze and opponent while they are vulnerable to set up for a combo that would otherwise be hard to do. Combine this move with Death Ball to destroy your opponent. You are vulnerable for a second after use. ------- Pump Up (UP, ZL + A) ------- 2 Blast Stocks Set Up Time: 1.5 Seconds Duration: 20 Seconds Effects: Boost Attack, Lower Ki Charge This is a good move if your Ki attacks aren't doing much damage and you need to 'pump up' Frieza's attack. I wouldn't recommend this move if you plan on transforming, but if you are fighting only as Frieza and prefer Melee, this is the way to go. --------- Transform (R-Stick Down) --------- 1 Blast Stock Instant Use Effects: Character Change to Frieza 2nd Form, Gain 5,000 HP Wait until you've taken at least half a bar of damage (5,000 HP) before using this as you cannot regain more health than you started with. ################ SPECIAL ATTACKS: ################ ---------- Death Beam (ZL + X) ---------- Long Range 2 Bars Instant Use Power 5,450 (6,000 w/ Boost) Hits 1 A dodon class beam. This move can also be used to cancel Kameha class beams. Do not attempt to clash with other dodon class beams, it's rare that the angles line up perfectly and you have enough time before the first beam hits you. This move should be used as a follow-up to any of Frieza's combos or his rush move, as long as you get the timing right for when the opponent stops flying away and before they are able to dodge again. This move can also be used as a close range counter to dodged moves, while the opponent is vulnerable. This move should never be used as a long range attack, as an attempt to counter a Barrage. It is risky to use this to counter a rush move, as many rush moves can easily maneuver around it if used outside of close or Close to Medium range. When in close range, this move will cause Frieza to backflip before using it. -------------- Punishing Rush (UP, ZL + X) -------------- Medium Range 3 Bars Instant Use Power 6,820 (7,510 w/ Boost) Hits 8 A Unique Rush move that emphasizes Frieza's raw power and ego. This move has medium range and Frieza can maneuver on the way to the target. I recommend this move be used sparingly, as it can often be easily blocked or avoided, and doesn't do a lot more damage than Death Beam. You charge at the opponent for about three seconds. ---------- Death Ball (Down, ZL + X) ---------- Long Range 5 Bars (Must be in Sparking) Instant Use Power 13,640 (15,040 w/ Boost) Hits 4 This is Frieza's Ultimate, the move he used to destroy at least two planets and obliterate entire species. This is a map changer, meaning that on Earth or Namek levels, if this move hits the ground it will change to a destroyed version of Earth or Namek. This destroyed Earth is the same for all Earth stages. This move should only be used at either Close Range or when the opponent is stunned, as it isn't very fast and does not home, making it easy to avoid from anything more distant than Close Range. When in close range, this move will cause Frieza to blackflip before firing. ######## Summary: ######## The base Frieza may seem small and not very powerful, but like the series this is deceptive. Frieza's small size make it easier to avoid other attacks, and his unorthodox use of his tal while fighting easily throws off the opponent during a melee, making him a superbly well-rounded fighter. _______________________________________________________________________________ ********************** s06. Frieza (2nd Form) DP COST 6 ********************** ###### STATS: ###### HP: 30,000 Starting Ki: 2 Bars Max Blast stocks: 6 Melee: Power 290 M Speed: Average Ki: Power 260, 5 Hit Max K Speed: Average Ki Charge: 9 Seconds (0 to Sparking) ################## BLAST STOCK MOVES: ################## -------------- Explosive Wave (ZL + A) -------------- Melee Range 1 Blast Stock Instant Use Power 750 Hits 2 Duration: 1 Second Explosive wave in general is a great move. While this doesn't block every attack like Hero's Flute or Android Barrier, it does a good job of knocking away an opponent who has gotten too close for comfort. Best used against Melee opponents faster than this version of Frieza. This move blocks everything with the exception of Beam Special Attacks. Great for countering Rush Moves, as you don't lose the energy you would by merely blocking them. (Not to mention saving you from a Guard Break) ----------- Finish Sign (Up, ZL + A) ----------- 2 Blast Stocks Set Up Time: 2 Seconds Duration: 90 Seconds Effects: Boost Attack, Boost Ki Blast This is an amazing move for Frieza. This move is great if you do not plan on using many Special Attacks or Transformations, as it stays in effect until you use a special attack. You can use Explosive Wave in conjuction with this without losing the effect. This move is best used against faster opponents who are difficult to hit with this Frieza's slower Specials. --------- Transform (R-Stick Down) --------- 1 Blast Stock Instant Use Effects: Character Change to Frieza 3rd Form, Gain 5,000 HP Wait until you've taken at least half a bar of damage (5,000 HP) before using this as you cannot regain more health than you started with. ################ SPECIAL ATTACKS: ################ ----------------- Punishing Blaster (ZL + X) ----------------- Long Range 2 Bars Instant Use Power 7,120 (7,840 w/ Boost) Hits 4 This move is a non-chargeable Kameha Class Beam. It is more powerful than Death Beam, and can be used to clash with other Kameha or Ball Class beams, and can be used as a counter to Barrage or Weird Class Beams, as it will generally punch right through anything angled towards you on its way to the opponent. This move will cancel with any Dodon class beams. Great for use as a follow-up on an opponent. ----------- Death Storm (Up, ZL + X) ----------- Long Range 3 Bars Instant Use Power 6,360 (7,020 w/ Boost) Hits 6 Be careful using this move, as it leaves you vulnerable for about a second before the attack hits. This is an Area Class Attack, focused on the opponent, meaning that once used this move creates and expanding sphere of damage centered on the location of the opponent when the move is used. This can be pretty easily dodged or blocked, and under no circumstance should be used while the opponent is moving. This is best used while either you or the opponent are hiding, as it works regardless of line of sight as long as you are still locked on. This move works really well against giants, as they will almost always get caught in its blast radius. ----------- HAIL Frieza (Down, ZL + X) ----------- Close Range 4 Bars Instant Use Power 13,130 (14,410 w/ Boost) Hits 12 This is a straight-line rush move at close range, and is best used when the opponent has their back turned or is stunned. This is one of my favorite moves in the game, Frieza impales the opponent on his horns than throws them off, using the Punishing Blaster on them before they hit the ground. This move should be used sparingly, as a failed attempt means you only have 1 Ki Bar left with nothing to show for it. You charge at the opponent for about a second. ######## Summary: ######## Frieza's 2nd Form is everything the First Form isn't. It is easily twice the size of the average fighter, with all the advatages being in the beefier class brings: Enhanced Power and Defense. Even better, he doesn't suffer from the same problems as Broly or other large characters in that he is still a fairly fast melee fighter. This form is best used against fighter who simply over powers the first form with sheer size. _______________________________________________________________________________ ********************** s07. Frieza (3rd Form) DP COST 6 ********************** ###### STATS: ###### HP: 30,000 Starting Ki: 2 Bars Max Blast stocks: 6 Melee: Power 270 M Speed: Average Ki: Power 400, 9 Hit Max K Speed: Very Fast Ki Charge: 10 Seconds (0 to Sparking) ################## BLAST STOCK MOVES: ################## -------------- Explosive Wave (ZL + A) -------------- Melee Range 1 Blast Stock Instant Use Power 750 Hits 2 Duration: 1 Second Explosive wave is, again, a great move. While this doesn't block every attack like Hero's Flute or Android Barrier, it does a good job of knocking away an opponent who has gotten too close for comfort. This move blocks everything with the exception of Beam Special Attacks. Great for countering Rush Moves, as you don't lose the energy you would by merely blocking them. (Not to mention saving you from a Guard Break) This move is even more important for Frieza (3rd Form) because he is a pathetic Melee Fighter. He is a huge target with short reach, making him good at hit and run beam attacks. ---------- Hi-Tension (Up, ZL + A) ---------- 2 Blast Stocks Set Up Time: 2 Seconds Duration: 90 Seconds Effects: Boost Attack, Boost Ki Charge Hi-Tension is perfect for Frieza (3rd Form). It improves exactly what he needs - faster ki charge and stronger melee. I would always recommend using this move, since you now have only one health regenerating stage of Frieza to transform into. With this move, you can charge up to your ultimate very quickly, making it much more useful that it would otherwise be. You can also use it to harass your opponent with ki blasts until you regain your blast stocks, as it stays in effect until you use a special attack. --------- Transform (R-Stick Down) --------- 1 Blast Stock Instant Use Effects: Character Change to Frieza Final Form, Gain 5,000 HP Wait until you've taken at least half a bar of damage (5,000 HP) before using this as you cannot regain more health than you started with. ################ SPECIAL ATTACKS: ################ ---------- Death Beam (ZL + X) ---------- Long Range 2 Bars Instant Use Power 5,910 (6,510 w/ Boost) Hits 1 A more powerful Death Beam. I don't recommend it, as a combination of Hi-Tension and Frieza's Ki Combos does more damage for the same cost. I would only use it for the knock down effect or to cancel a Kameha Class Beam. The regular Ki Blasts also don't leave you as vulnerable, making them the best offensive option for this Frieza. --------------- High Speed Rush (Up, ZL + X) --------------- Medium Range 3 Bars Instant Use Power 7,380 (8,090 w/ Boost) Hits 19 This is an okay Rush attack, it's only saving grace being it's relatively long range. It's a little over medium range, but you should experiment to get a good feel for the exact range. You charge at the opponent for approximately 3 seconds before stopping. I don't recommend it except as a way to throw the opponent off from your usual hit and run in this form. You can also maneuver in this rush move, but don't forget that it costs you time. ----------------- Crazy Finger Beam (Down, ZL + X) ----------------- Long Range 4 Bars Instant Use Power 13,800 (15,200 w/ Boost) Hits 20 (Max) I do not recommend using this move, as it is very unpredictable. It is a barrage class move, but not nearly as useful as the next form's Barrage Death Beam. I noted that there is a 20 hit maximum, but more than likely you will only hit with half of them, if that against a moving target. This move is extremly powerful against a vulnerable target from either long range or close range, as most of the beams are at their outermost peak at medium range and thus miss more often. ######## Summary: ######## You will either love this Frieza, or hate him. He looks goofy compared to the other forms, but thats a different discussion. This Frieza is about as fast as first form and has more powerful Special Attacks. His Blast Stocks suit him well, as they cover his weaknesses to melee and improve his ability to harass the opponent. That's really all this Frieza is, harassment. Do not expect to go toe to toe with any Melee fighters in this form, as hit and run is the name of the game here. Let loose with the basic and charged Ki blasts, as the 9 hit basic combo of ki blasts is extremely fast, costs about one bar and deals more than half the damage of Death Beam. Frieza's charged ki blast changes here as well, as it splits off into two balls and strikes the opponent at the same time. This Frieza is best used as a turret with normal rush combos thrown in everyone once and a while. _______________________________________________________________________________ ************************ s08. Frieza (Final Form) DP COST 7 ************************ ###### STATS: ###### HP: 30,000 Starting Ki: 2 Bars Max Blast stocks: 6 Melee: Power 270 M Speed: Fast Ki: Power 230, 7 Hit Max K Speed: Fast Ki Charge: 6 Seconds (0 to Sparking) Other: Charged Ki Blast Very Slow, Causes Stun ################## BLAST STOCK MOVES: ################## ------------- Psychokinesis (ZL + A) ------------- Close Range 2 Blast Stocks Instant Use Power 510 (If use at Melee Range) Hits 3 Stun Duration: 4 Seconds Max. This is not an attack move, and costs too many blast stocks to be used that way. In addition to doing minor damage, it also stuns the opponent. Great to use against an incoming opponent to turn the tide, or to freeze and opponent while they are vulnerable to set up for a combo that would otherwise be hard to do. Combine this move with Destroy the Planet! to destroy your opponent. Don't forget that you are vulnerable for a second after use. Just make sure to save a blast stock for the final transformation, which regains energy. This move is best if used against an opponent in the midst of blocking a combo. ---------- Full Power (Up, ZL + A) ---------- 3 Blast Stocks Set Up Time: 2 Seconds Effects: Maxes Ki Gauge After Effects: Reduces Ki Charge Duration: As long as you are Sparking This is a great move if you know how to use it properly. Always save 1 Blast Stock for transformation, otherwise your Ki Charge will be crippled. The after effect of Ki Charge being reduced lasts until you transform or start charging towards sparking again (the instant you start charging to blue this effect dissapears). --------- Transform (R-Stick Down) --------- 1 Blast Stock Instant Use Effects: Character Change to Frieza Full Power, Gain 5 Ki Bars Remember, transforming to Full Power Frieza will not restore any health. Instead, you will get a one time boost of 5 Bars of Ki, making it perfect to use after a Full Power Ultimate Attack. This should also be used if you are very low on health, as being able to launch a final Special Attack without charging or delay is incredibly useful. ################ SPECIAL ATTACKS: ################ ------------------ Barrage Death Beam (ZL + X) ------------------ Long Range 2 Bars Instant Use Power 6,400 (7,100 w/ Boost) Hits 10 (Max) At first glance, this may seem like a step down from 3rd Form's Death Beam, but is in fact a huge improvement. This Frieza is very much a melee fighter, being the faster of the Frieza forms. This attack launches 10 Death Beams, meaning even if the opponent Z Teleports out of the way of the first, they will get hit by the rest. It also follows the opponent, so while the Death Beams go straight, Frieza will reaim at the target with each one, so a quick sidestep isn't enough to dodge this. Add on to that the fact that each beam has a knock-back effect, this makes Barrage Death Beam one of the best Barrage Class attacks in the game. If your opponent is trying to get away from from you or charge ki, this is a great way to show them whos boss. This is also a great move to use when switching in, as it gives the opponent little time to think or move. ---------------------- I Might Die This Time. (Up, ZL + X) ---------------------- Long Range 3 Bars Instant Use Power 8,230 (9,010 w/ Boost) Hits 5 This attack falls under Weird Class Beams. Frieza launches several rocks which function like a Ball Class Beam, meaning they hurtle straight to the opponent but leave no damage trail behind them. The rocks themselves do two hits, but if they hit they are unblockable and a cutscene attack launches, doing another 3 hits and the rest of the damage. I recommend this move as the second counter to compulsive blockers (the first being Psychokinesis). ------------------- Destroy the Planet! (Down, ZL + X) ------------------- Long Range 5 Bars Instant Use Power 14,550 (16,050 w/ Boost) Hits 5 This is a faster version of Death Ball, the other Ball Class Planet Buster in Frieza's Arsenal. This is best used at close range against a stunned foe. It can pretty easily be dodged and blocked at anything greater than that range. I would also recommend using transform after this move (especially if you were successful) as it restores 5 bars of ki, meaning you can immediately launch into another attack. ######## Summary: ######## Finally, the Frieza we all know and love. He is a great melee fighter, with enhanced strength and speed, but can also funtion well as a cannon, spewing Barrage Death Beams at an annoyed foe. He has two unblockable moves to counter compulsive blockers, which make him a great well rounded fighter, easily going toe to toe with even the more powerful GT Characters. By far the best version of Frieza in the game. (Beating out Cyborg Frieza due to the benefits of transformation.) _______________________________________________________________________________ ************************ s09. Frieza (Full Power) DP COST 8 ************************ ###### STATS: ###### HP: 30,000 Starting Ki: 3 Bars Max Blast stocks: 6 Melee: Power 290 M Speed: Fast Ki: Power 260, 6 Hit Max K Speed: Very Fast Ki Charge: 10 Seconds (0 to Sparking) ################## BLAST STOCK MOVES: ################## ------------- Psychokinesis (ZL + A) ------------- Close Range 2 Blast Stocks Instant Use Power 510 (If use at Melee Range) Hits 3 Stun Duration: 4 Seconds Max. This move should be nothing new to you by now, but it is more important now that you are the slower Full Power Frieza, as dodge and getting the upper hand while meleeing is more difficult now. Combine this move with You Will Die By My Hand! destroy your opponent. Don't forget that you are vulnerable for a second after use. Don't worry about conserving Blast Stocks, there are no more transformations left, go all out! --------------------- Long awaited-for 100% (Up, ZL + A) --------------------- 3 Blast Stocks Set Up Time: 2-3 Seconds Effects: Maxes Ki Gauge, Boost Attack, Boost Defense After Effects: Reduces Ki Charge This is a great move if you know how to use it properly. Do not use this move to launch straight into a Special Attack, as that wastes the Attack and Defense Boost you get while in Sparking mode. Use this move to unleash long combo chains on the opponent - in sparking there is no cap to combo length, and you can do addition dragon dashes and teleports to a smashed opponent. Only after your Ki Gauge drops below a bar should you unleash a Special Attack, maximizing the length and effectiveness of this move. The after effect of Ki Charge being reduced lasts until you transform or start charging towards sparking again (the instant you start charging to blue this effect dissapears). ################ SPECIAL ATTACKS: ################ ------------ Death Saucer (ZL + X) ------------ Long Range 3 Bars Instant Use Power 5,920 (6,520 w/ Boost) Hits 2 (Max) This move launches two unblockable discs at the opponent, and will follow them at average dashing speed for 3 seconds. This may not sounds like a lot, but if this move is used a close range it is almost a guaranteed hit. If you are at Medium or Long Range, This is the move you should use immediately after transforming to Frieza Full Power when in a pinch, as it puts the opponent on the defensive immediately, and will have them dashing away for a few seconds after the discs are gone. ---------- Nova Stike (Up, ZL + X) ---------- Medium Range 4 Bars Instant Use Power 9,090 (10,000 w/ Boost) Hits 1 Frieza surrounds himself with a ball of energy and dashes toward the opponent for 3 seconds. This is an Unblockable attack, great for dashing at a blocking for or against a foe having used a rush special attack on you. I would recommend you use it sparingly, as it is difficult to aim if the opponent dodges. It works, more or less, as a moving Explosive wave. You are still vulnerable to Beam Special Attacks while using this move, but you cannot be physically touched. This move is worth the expense if used correctly, as it can take a whole health bar with a single hit. If you are at close range after transforming, this is the best move to use. ------------------------ You Will Die By My Hand! (Down, ZL + X) ------------------------ Long Range 4 Bars Instant Use Power 13,680 (15,060 w/ Boost) Hits 6 This move is, quite frankly, dissapointing. After the Death Ball Rush combo in DBZ:BT2, seeing a generic Kameha Class Beam be Full Power Frieza's Finisher is just dissapointing. I do not recommend this move unless in extreme cirumstances or against a stunned foe, as it is easy to block and dodge. It is okay to use as the Icing on the cake to a Long Awaited-for 100% assault, but otherwise it just sputters in comparison, as actually charging up for this move is a waste of time. Summary: This Frieza would be amazing, except for two problems: First, he has the slowest Ki Charge of any Frieza, and Second, he fights slightly slower. This means that people you were easily comboing before are going to be a little bit better at defending. Otherwise, a great fighter, and the best when pitted against the larger fighters in the game (blow by blow), however, Final Form Frieza's versatility makes him the most useful overall. This Frieza is best used just like in the series as a weapon of last resort. _______________________________________________________________________________ ************ s10. Glossary ************ To keep things simple in the rest of the guide, I will be using certain terms to describe actions. Follow up: The attack used after a certain action Dodge: Avoiding the opponent's attack. This can be done with either a simple side step, a teleport dodge or a dragon dash. Cancel: An attack used to negate the opponent's attack without dealing direct damage to the opponent Counter: The follow up to an opponent attack in an effort to cancel their move by dealing damage directly to the opponent (hitting them before their beam reaches you), or to simply hit them while they are vulnerable after launching an attack. Stun: A condition in which you must rapidly press the A button in order to be able to move or use attacks again. Until then you are unable to control your character. Melee Range: Up to the maximum distance between you and your opponent where at least one of you can strike the other with a melee attack Close Range: The distance in between you and an opponent where the game will automatically turn dash into sidesteps and backflips. This is generally three times the length of your character's Melee Range, you can tell what the range is exactly by moving your character backwards from the opponent. The point at which your character turns around is the end of this range. Medium Range: Any attack that will dissapate at some point regardless of whether it has hit anything. This is generally this distance between you and the opponent when your opponent appears to be half the size of your character, given two equal sized regular characters (Goku v. Goku). If it leans to the closer or longer side, I will note that as well. Long Range: Any attack or move that will keep going until it hits something Range Guide: Your Character ->O-C-CM--M---ML----L Ki Attack Classes (These will be important when discussing strategy): Dodon Class: Tight, Focused Beam of Energy. Generally faster than the other classes. Will cancel any Kameha Class Beam. Will only clash with other Dodon Class beams. Reactions vary with Ball Class beams. Some are unblockable. Touching any part of the beam will result in damage. Kameha Class: A Wide, Power Beam of Energy. Generally slower than the Dodon class, and are blockable. These beams vary greatly, as some can be mouth beams, some (like the Kamehameha) can be charged, and some of other unique properties. However, all will clash with any other beam of the same class, or of the ball class. Touching any part of the beam will result in damage (so don't get stupid after dodging one). Ball Class: Ki formed into a Ball Shape and shot. Leaves the user completely vulnerage until it reaches it's target, as there is no beam to damage an opponent who gets too close. Vary greatly in speed and size. Will always clash with other balls or Kameha Class beams. Their reaction to Dodon class beams varies with the attack, as they either cancel each other or pass through one another, never resulting in a clash. Barrage Class: Ki blasts shot multiple time in a row. These vary greatly in shape, power, speed and frequeny, and may resembles other beams, but they fall into this class becuase they will always be cancelled by the above beams while the above beams will keep going. Breath Class: These beams are generally 'fire breath' beams with short to medium range. They are faster than any other beam, but can not be use for last minute counters. They may cancel certain other beams, depending on the character and the other beam. Breath Class beams are generally unblockable. Weird Beams: This is essentially an 'Other' Category. Some beams will initiate cutscene attacks (instead of a rush move). Some are simply weird shapes that don't clash with anything, and some are area sweepers like Darkness Eye Beam. These moves must either be blocked or dodged. Area Class Attack: Moves like Super Explosive Wave fall into this category. These moves generally create a sphere of damage which increases based on how close you are to the center. These moves can either be based around the user or the opponent, and at least one is a homing attack. You have about a second between use and damage to either hit the opponent, block or run away. _______________________________________________________________________________ Copyright 2008 Joseph Annelli
