   Introduction & Overview
===============================

"Far beyond the world we humans know, there is a remote and ancient kingdom
that for the creatures living in the astonishing cold is a paradise on earth."

Arctic Tale is a short (20-30 hrs 1st play through/10 hrs any additional
play throughs not including multi-player hours) but very graphical game
set in the Arctic Region. You start as a polar bear cub completing token
challenges (mini-game challenges) which unlock a playable adult polar bear.

Complete more challenges and you will also unlock a playable arctic fox,
walrus, and orca. There is a losely based story of how you and your
brother (both polar bear cubs) grow and compete for dominance of the area.

There are plenty of things to do and collect throughout 2 huge map areas.
You can also swim in the ocean and in underground tunnels.

This game has real life graphics and is good for families or individuals
who like nature. This game is basically a collection of mini-games geared
towards nature events. All ages can play this game.

This is not a long game but it has lots of re-play value. There is no blood
or violence except an occassional swipe from an unfriendly polar bear which
you can avoid. The mini-games are enjoyable to re-play.

Probably the worst aspect of the game was the lack of camera control but it
is functional.

    Tips
=============

Food
-----

"Food can be scarce in the Arctic and when necessary polar bears will resort
to scavenging the remains of other animals meals (no blood or torn animals).
You can find these (seals) dotted around the landscape and they will boost
your strength."

- The seals are fairly plentiful and are found scattered around and on top
of the frozen ground. These seals are dead and are not the seals that
  dive into their ice holes.

- Running (hold B button) uses up more of your heart/s (energy) faster than
  just walking (hold A button).

Switch Points
-------------

- There is one to two switch points per map area (3 arrows in a circle on map)
- Use the switch point to change between unlocked playable animals
- Any land animal can walk into the walrus & orca challenge tokens
to trigger the token. You will change into the animal pictured on the token.

Silver Paw Print Coins
----------------------

There are 50 silver paw print coins in the 1st map area and 200 silver paw
print coins in the 2nd map area. Collecting certain amounts of these silver
coins will unlock more areas and challenge tokens.
- on ground
- on cliffs
- in challenge token games
- Under water (swim over the area to see them and dive to get them)
- under iced-over seal holes (must be adult polar bear to break hole open)

Gold Paw Print Coins
--------------------

There are 8 gold paw print coins in each map area. Collect them all to gain
life hearts. Life hearts make you stronger and able to run longer.
- on ground
- on cliffs
- under water
- in challenge token games

Large Challenge Tokens
----------------------

There are large spinning challenge tokens (called Challenge Icons) in each map
area. Just walk into them to trigger a challenge mini-game.

You will always keep any paw print coins (silver or gold) that you find while
in a challenge token game whether you win the game or not.

- Gold: Polar Bear - cub (only triggered by cub)
- Gold: Polar Bear - adult (only triggered by adult)
- Green: Arctic Fox
- Red: Walrus
- Blue: Orca

Unlocking Challenge Tokens
--------------------------

Collect silver paw print coins to unlock Challenge Tokens

Chapter 1/Map Area 1:
- Start with Polar Bear cub
- 15: Arctic Fox
- 30: Polar Bear adult

Chapter 2/Map Area 2:
- 15: Arctic Fox
- 30: Walrus
- 45: Orca

Gain More Life Hearts
---------------------

- Start with one heart
- Chapter 1 has 8 gold paw print coins = 2 hearts
- Chapter 2 has 8 gold paw print coins = 2 hearts
- Collect 4 gold paw print coins per each life heart
- Total game hearts = 5 hearts

Turning around in crevices
--------------------------

It is "easier" to turn around in crevices and dead ends if you release any
buttons you are holding and bring your cursor (paw print icon) closer to
your playable animal to turn him around. Pressing any direction on the
control pad also works but will interfer with your cursor movement if you
do them both at the same time. Just keep practicing the timing of your
turns and you will get better at it. It really only matters if you are
being timed.

   Basic Walkthrough/Guide
=============================

_______________________
Map Level 1: Sunny Ice
_______________________

- Chapter 1

- Start as a polar bear cub
  - Adult polar bears can swipe at you (heart level loss)
  - You can not swim in water
  - You can climb stairs (run at stairs/goes slow)
  - You go faster down slides
  - You can not open iced-over seal holes

- Unlock adult polar bear
  - Beat/gold 4 cub challenges & collect 30 silver paw print coins
  - You can fend off other adult polar bears
  - You can swim (press A) in water & dive in water (press B)
  - You can open iced-over seal holes (press up on control pad)

- Unlock arctic fox
  - Collect 15 silver paw print coins
    - Arctic fox can "sniff out" and catch hares
    - Not sure what it does/caught over 50/maybe just for fun?
      - Says to "catch them all"/maybe have to catch in order?
      - They just keep appearing in & out of all the same rabbit holes
      - rabbit holes are half-circular mounds with blue ice inside
    - You go super fast down slides
    - You run super fast but burn the most energy
    - You can not climb stairs or swim

- Unlock next Chapter/Map Area 2/Night Ice
  - Beat/gold 4 cub challenges & beat/gold 1 adult challenge (polar bears)
    - Don't be confused if you beat a Fox Challenge Token and a pole pops up
again - it is just a repeat of the same pole cutscene
  - At this point you can go on to Chapter 2 (walk past red & white striped
pole by fox challenge token) or stay and finish area before going on to
    Chapter 2
  - You can go in and out of both map areas (chapter 1 & 2) anytime you want
    now

- 49 silver paw print coins
- 8 gold paw print coins
- 1 switch point (main island)
- Day time with cloudless blue sky
- Some nook areas for coins
- Beat all challenges to open Map level 2

Gold Paw Prints (8):

As cub polar bear:
1. Inside Scavenge Challenge Token/dead end/mountain
2. Top of overlook/mountain/curve around outside cliff/
outside Scavenge Challenge area/North-middle on map
3. Up mountain/by running adult bear/right side/
North-middle on map but left from #2
4. Inside Ice Slide Challenge Token/right shortcut slide
5. On the edge of the ocean bank/midway down/valley
6. On the edge of the ocean bank/end/by iced-over seal hole & rocks

As adult polar bear:
7. Under water in river/valley/small ice floats/North-east on map
8. Across the river (#6) and in 1st iced-over seal hole

Silver Paw Print Coins (50):

- Scattered around on top of open land but may be in nooks or dead ends as well
  - On cliffs/mountain and in valley/around rocks
- Under water in small valley river (must be adult polar bear to get them)
- In Challenge Token mini-games
- In iced-over seal holes (must be adult polar bear to get them)

Glitch (or Easter Egg) in this map area:

You can swim the big blue wide open ocean!
- This is a graphical glitch and will not do anything detrimental to your game
- Go to the small river in the valley that has small ice floats in it
(It is shown on the map/North-east/same one that has gold paw print coin #6)
- Go into the water between the 2 side-by-side small ice floats and the "ice
  bridge"
- Now swim (press A/adult polar bear) into the right bank of frozen land
- Instead of stopping against the land, you will instead go right through and
  under the land
- Swim to your hearts content in any direction and through and under anything
- You may even see un-collected coins under iced-over seal holes (above)
- The land will be hollow structures as you go in and out of them
- You can even swim out to the group of seals on the ice float in the ocean ...
  and WAY beyond!
- It is very easy to get back out of the water
- Just swim back into the river (anywhere in the river) and climb up on the
  North-most land bank

----------------
Challenge Tokens
----------------

Polar Bear Cub
---------------

Ice Slide:
----------

Slide down the ice as fast as you can, but watch out for rocks!

Bronze: 40 seconds
Silver: 30 seconds
Gold: 20 Seconds

Tip: Do one trip down the main slide to collect the silver paw print coins
down the middle. Then take the right shortcut slide path to beat the game
and collect the one gold paw print coin there. Use the B button to slow
yourself down (to collect coins & tight turns) and the A button to
     speed yourself up.

Scavenge:
---------

Food is scarce but the male bears have loads, take some while they're asleep

Bronze: steal 5 seals (4 minutes)
Sliver: steal 10 seals (4 minutes)
Gold: steal 15 seals (4 minutes)

Tip: Run straight at stairs to climb them. This gives you an overview look.
Do not run while around (or touch) the sleeping male bears. When you have
collected the allotted seals then dash to the perimeter line to finish.
The perimeter line is a pink sparkly line so don't cross it until you
are ready to end the game. There is a noise bar (dark is bad) at the
bottom center of the screen along with the number of seals collected.
Blue arrows above point to seals on ground level and on cliffs. Stairs
are located towards the middle & right (side near edge of lookout).
Mama & baby brother bear will get in your way as well as running
rabbits and foxes. Your heart will not replenish at the end of each
stage of this challenge and even if you restart this challenge multiple
times so you may need to exit the challenge and go find a seal to
     replenish your heart(s).

Shuffle Bear:
-------------

Slide over the ice toward the target and see how close you can get!

Bronze: 100 points (within 3 attempts)
Silver: 200 points (within 3 attempts)
Gold: 250 points (within 3 attempts)

Tip: Slide the polar bear towards the middle of the target mark on the ice.
Collect silver paw print coins on both edges. Hold A button to start
slide strength bar on right side (filled to top blue is long distance
slide - Red is past target slide). Let go of A button when the slide
strength bar is as strong/filled as you want it. You can position the
angle of the path you take with the cursor (paw print). You can also
slide your playable animal in different angles (to some extent) while
you slide towards the target. Get a bull's eye for the highest score.
You get 3 attempts per level but your scores are added together.

     (Outside rings going towards bull's eye: 25, 50, 75, 100)

Balance Fight:
--------------

Push your opponent in the lake. Brother bear thinks he's the strongest, let's
see who can stay on the ice float!

Bronze: Easy strength test (3 won rounds)
Silver: Medium strength test (3 won rounds)
Gold: Hard strength test (3 won rounds)

Tip: Be the first one to push your shown button/wii shake to gain top position.
Then repeatedly push shown button/wii shake to push other bear off ice
float. If you are pushed off then repeatedly shown button/wii shake to
climb back onto ice float before you fall in Lake. Third time bear will
fall into lake regardless of any buttons pushed or wii shakes.
The bear that pushes the other bear into the lake three times wins.

Polar Bear Adult
----------------

Catch a seal:
-------------

Seals are a polar bear's main source of food and here's your chance to catch
some. Grab them when they pop up for air! (Resembles whack-a-mole)

Bronze: 30 seals (1 minute)
Sliver: 40 seals (1 minute)
Gold: 50 seals (1 minute)

Tip: There are no walrus' to thwart you so just go crazy bopping seals.
Pay attention to the rhythum and location of how they pop up and down.
The shadow of your cursor (paw print) is the location the bob will be
and not the big white paw print. Press A button rapidly as you move
around the rows of holes. It also helps to just rotate around 2 rows
of holes. The seals will start popping up after 5 seconds so you really
only have 55 seconds per level.

Food Fight:
-----------

Win the tug-a-war. Brother bear wants the last piece of food, but you have
other ideas. Wrestle it from him!

Bronze: Easy tugging
Silver: Medium tugging
Gold: Hard tugging

Tip: Push repeatedly button shown/wii shake and start before the other bear.
There is only one tug session per level so it is quick. If you are
having a hard time being faster/stronger then make sure your wiimote
is flat (like as if pointer pointing at middle of tv screen) as you
shake straight towards and back from the tv OR side to side. If it is
a button (A or B) then firmly hold your wiimote with one hand and
rapidly rub back and forth over your A or B button with the other
hand (not the same as just pressing/rubbing goes much faster). Also,
always make sure that your wii sensor bar is positioned correctly to
easily receive your wiimote signal (best to get a sensor bar holder
so that all edges have air around them to catch bouncing signals).

Fox
----

Ice Float Rodeo:
----------------

Cross the finish line within a certain time. The arctic fox normally steers
clear of thin ice and the water. Guide him safely down the channel to safety.

Bronze: 1 minute and 30 seconds
Silver: 1 minute and 20 seconds
Gold: 1 minute and 10 seconds

Tip: Keep your fox on the tiny ice float as he barrels down the river filled
with ice obstacles. Steer clear of the obstacles but keep the fox from
tipping off his tiny ice float. Point and twist wiimote to steer. Keep
a steady pattern of twisting left then right to keep fox on ice float.
Don't let any other ice floats hit you (twist & use pointer to sway)
or the other ice floats will slow you way down or even knock you off.
Don't hit the edges of the land on each side or you will slow down.
Try to follow the shortest path possible (try not to curve around bends
     a whole lot).

    now

- 199 silver paw print coins
- 8 gold paw print coins
- 2 switch points (main island/small island)
- Night time with arora borealis in sky
- More nook areas than the first level
- Longer ice slide than the first level
- Large island with small ocean island

  additional mini-games added

Gold Paw Print Coins (8):

As adult polar bear:
1. In water/side of small ice float/under arched bridge/middle-south cove
2. In middle of water cove/middle-south cove on map/near #1
3. Iced-over seal hole/west-middle on map/between orange & yellow stars

5. Iced-over seal hole/North-east cave tunnels
6. On top of tall sloped mini-climb mountain/round circle on map between
elongated water flow and circle water within land ice mass/mid-east
7. On top of arched mini-climb mountain/long swirlys on map/just below
   #6 mini-mountain on map/middle-east
8. On the very tip top of the small island/keep twisting your way up and
all around it until you get to the very top/dark rocks (not snow path)

Silver Paw Print Coins (199):

- Scattered around on top of open land but may be in nooks or dead ends as well
  - On cliffs/mountains and in valleys/around rocks/in tunnels and caves
- None underwater
- In Challenge Token mini-games
- In iced-over seal holes (must be adult polar bear to get them)

Glitches (or Easter Eggs) in this Map Area:

Arora Borealis:
- This is a graphical glitch and will not do anything detrimental to your game
- Switch to the fox as your playable animal
- Go to the Fox Challenge token named Ice Sheet
- When the time starts just run into the outer cliffs
- You will go through and hopefully be on a flat outer edge ice sheet
- You can run around this ice sheet all you want as long as the time
doesn't run out and enjoy the vibrant colors of the sky
- Sometimes you will run into the cliff, off the white flat sheet, and into
the water - which makes you "fall through the ice" & the game will
  immediately end
- Sometimes you will run into the cliff and into an arora borealis time warp
(Just run off the flat edge of the ice - It is freaky but very pretty)
- Whatever happens, don't worry - the game can be reset by pressing Play or End
and nothing happens to your game (or pressing 1 button and Exit Challenge)

Walk and Run on a Restricted Ice Float:
- This is a graphical glitch and will not do anything detrimental to your game
- Switch to the adult polar bear and swim into the ocean between the main land
and the small island (both have switch points)
- In the middle of this small ocean is a large shallow ice float
- Swim your bear all around the edge of this ice float and you will find a
shallow access point that lets your bear get on the ice float
- Run &/or walk all on top of the ice float and instead of running or walking
sounds, you will hear swimming sounds
- You can just run or walk off any edge of the ice float and your bear will
be swimming normally in the water again

----------------
Challenge Tokens
----------------

Polar Bear Adult
----------------

Ice Sheet:
----------

You must find a safe path across the ice. Tread carefully,
this ice is very thin.

Bronze: Cross the ice sheet within 4 minutes.
Silver: Cross the ice sheet within 1 minute and 30 seconds (and snowing)
Gold: Cross the ice sheet within 30 seconds (and snowing)

Tip: Look very carefully at ice and you may see a light winding ice path.
Stay very close to this path. The ice will crack as you cut corners
but you should be able to run quickly to the end.

Scavenge:
---------

Those male bears have taken all the food again!
Take some back while they sleep!

Bronze: steal 5 seals
Silver: steal 10 seals
Gold: steal 15 seals

Tip: Do not run while around (or touch) the sleeping male bears. When you have
collected the allotted seals then dash to the perimeter line to finish.
The perimeter line is a pink sparkly line so don't cross it until you
are ready to end the game. There is a noise bar (dark is bad) at the
bottom center of the screen along with the number of seals collected.
There are still blue arrows above pointing to seals but no stairs so
     it is easier.

Ice Slide:
----------

This slide is really big, it could be a lot of fun! See how fast you can go!

Bronze: 80 seconds
Silver: 70 seconds
Gold: 60 seconds

Tip: Memorize the turns so that you don't hit the sides and slow down.
Press A to go faster and press B to go slower.

Food Fight:
-----------

Win the tug-a-war. Wrestle the food away from the male bear.

Ice Float Rodeo:
----------------

Cross the finish line within the allotted time.
Polar bears are great swimmers, but hitching a ride can be fun!
Ride the raft down the channel to open water, but watch out for iceburgs!

Bronze: 1 minute and 30 seconds
Silver: 1 minute and 20 seconds
Gold: 1 minute and 10 seconds

Tip: Keep your bear on the ice float as he barrels down the river filled
with ice obstacles. Steer clear of the obstacles but keep the bear from
tipping off his ice float. Point and twist wiimote to steer. Watch out
for underwater ice. The bases of these ice floats are bigger. Keep
a steady pattern of twisting left then right to keep bear on ice float.
Don't let any other ice floats hit you (twist & use pointer to sway)
or the other ice floats will slow you way down or even knock you off.
Don't hit the edges of the land on each side or you will slow down.
Try to follow the shortest path possible (try not to curve around bends
     a whole lot).

Catch a seal:
-------------

Seals are a polar bear's main source of food and here's your chance to catch
some. Grab them when they pop up for air! (Resembles whack-a-mole)

Bronze: 30 seals (1 minute)
Sliver: 40 seals (1 minute)
Gold: 50 seals (1 minute)

Tip: There are walrus' to thwart you so don't just go crazy bopping seals.
Pay attention to the rhythum and location of how they pop up and down.
The shadow of your cursor (paw print) is the location the bop will be
and not the small white paw print. Press A button rapidly as you move
around the rows of holes. It also helps to just rotate around 2 rows
of holes. The seals will start popping up after 5 seconds so you really
only have 55 seconds per level. If you bop a walrus (tusks) then it will
subtract one seal from your total seals (per each walrus). There are
more walruses as you advance levels.

Final Fight:
------------

- This is the unlockable pole (red & white striped)

Push the male bear over the cliff.
You are trapped with the male bear on a cliff edge.
Save yourself by forcing him over the ledge!

Bronze: hard
Silver: harder
Gold: hardest

Tip: Be the first one to push your shown button/wii shake to gain top position.
Then repeatedly push shown button/wii shake to push other bear off ice
float. If you are pushed off then repeatedly shown button/wii shake to
climb back onto ice float before you fall in Lake. Third time bear will
fall into lake regardless of any buttons pushed or wii shakes.
The bear that pushes the other bear into the lake three times wins.
This is quick and fast. Your best bet is to start shaking the wii or
trying to guess what button or wii shake it will be.

This is a very hard challenge just because the other bear attacks so
quickly. Technically, you only have to beat/bronze this challenge to
have the game credits roll (meaning you beat the game) but I always
believe that a game is not beat until you beat every aspect of the
game ... but it is up to you.

Once the credits roll then you can:
     - Go back and collect the rest of the silver paw print coins
       (Chapter One/49 & Chapter Two/199 = 249 silver)

Fox
----

Stormy Rodeo:
-------------

Cross the finish line within the time allotted.
It looks like you're stuck in dangerously fast waters!
Steer your ice raft to safety!

Bronze: 1 minute and 30 seconds
Silver: 1 minute and 20 seconds
Gold: 1 minute and 10 seconds

Tip: Keep your bear on the ice float as he barrels down the river filled
with ice obstacles. Steer clear of the obstacles but keep the bear from
tipping off his ice float. Point and twist wiimote to steer. Faster water
with snow falling and faster ice floats coming at you. Your ice float is
also bigger which means more possibility of hitting sides &/or other ice
floats. Steer well clear of other ice floats.

You will have to switch to the adult polar bear to swim to the island
(or occasionally you get transported there) to access this fox
challenge token. Once on the small island as the adult polar bear, just
go to the switch point on the small island and switch into the fox.

Fox Ice Slides:
---------------

Shoot down the slide as fast as you can, trying to avoid the obstacles.
Beat the clock to win!

Bronze: 60 seconds
Silver: 55 seconds
Gold: 50 seconds

Tip: The fox flies down the slide much faster than the adult polar bear.
Memorize your turns so you don't hit the sides and slow down.
Press A to go fast and B to slow down.

Ice Sheet:
----------

Cross the ice sheet within the allotted time.
Oh no, more thin ice! How do you get to the other side?

Bronze: 3 minutes
Silver: 1 minute
Gold: 20 seconds

Tip: You are a very light fox. Just quickly run to the finish poles.

Walrus
------

Clam Scavenge:
--------------

Walruses use their sensitive whiskers to locate clams on the muddy seafloor
and can eat 4,000 clams in a day! See how many you can catch before time runs
out! (Time allotted is one minute)

Bronze: 10 or more clams
Silver: 20 or more clams
Gold: 30 or more clams

Tip: Dive down to the bottom and lightly drag your face against the bottom.
This will trigger large dark clams to appear. Clams will be opening and
closing. Touch them with your face. The trick is to get very close to
the bottom (sandy bottom in front of you at start is best clam place)
without getting stuck in the mud (brown junk rising). Try to glide
slowly just above the sand (clams will appear) and use the edge to
help you "jerk" along if you have to. Also, turn around and do same
starting sandy path again if you need.

Sweet Music:
------------

Walruses can sing for up to 50 hours straight! See if you can impress
another walrus with your singing! (Time limit one minute)

Bronze: 10 notes correct
Silver: 12 notes correct
Gold: 15 notes correct

Tip: Press the correct shown button/wii shake and timed right. If you miss the
correct shown button/wii shake or mis-time it then it takes one away from
your total for each incorrect response. If your wii sensor is not
responding to your up/down motions then try holding your wiimote flat (as
if pointer were right in the center of the tv) as you jerk forward towards
the tv just once. If your wii sensor is not responding to your side-to-side
motions then try holding your wiimote flat (as if pointer were right in the
center of the tv) and jerking the wiimote to one side just once. A and B
buttons should register just fine, but if they don't then you need to
reposition your wii sensor bar so it can get a good signal from the
     wiimote.

Orca
-----

Orca Races:
-----------

Swim through the rings to beat the other orca. Race another orca through
the underground ice tunnels.

Bronze: Easy swimming
Silver: Medium swimming
Gold: Fast swimming

Tip: Swim through the bubbled rings to the end of the course.
End of course means swimming all the way down to the cliff dead end and
back before the other orca gets back to the finish line. Bubble circles
make you go faster when you swim through them. If you get confused just
follow behind the other orca to see the entire course, then beat him!
You do have to swim through every bubble ring. If you miss one, just
go through it in any order or even backwards. If you bump the edge or
the other orca bumps you then you will have to regain control of your
own orca. Hold A to swim and hold B to swim faster.

Walrus Hunt:
------------

Try to catch as many walruses as possible before the time runs out.
(Time limit one minute)

Bronze: 3 walruses (1 minute 30 seconds)
Silver: 5 walruses (1 minute 30 seconds)
Gold: 7 walruses (1 minute 30 seconds)

Tip: Swim fast to catch the swimming walruses. Try not to bump the edges or
you will slow down. The walruses are fast so try to swim as they swim
towards you and don't let you orca get stuck in crevices. A to swim
up and B to dive down, if you get a balance then you can swim better
and faster (sometimes it is A then B then A then B, etc). Going in
caves can limit where they can swim but it also limits you - and you
are much bigger and slower. Turning around can be hard. Good luck!

Walrus Chase:
-------------

Catch the walrus before it escapes. Orcas are one of the few animals that
can prey on walruses. Chase a walrus through the underground ice tunnels and
catch it before it escapes.

Bronze: slow swimming
Silver: medium swimming
Gold: fast swimming

Tip: Catch the one walrus before it escapes. Don't let your orca get stuck in
crevices and remember he turns very slowly. You can wait exactly where
you start (just turn orca around - don't follow him in cave). The walrus
will come from behind (swimming right at you if you turned around). Now
just swim into him to win.

Catch a seal:
-------------

Seals are a polar bear's main source of food and here's your chance to catch
some. Grab them when they pop up for air! (Resembles whack-a-mole)

Tip: There are no walrus' to thwart you so just go crazy bopping seals.
Pay attention to the rhythum and location of how they pop up and down.

Making Sweet Music:
-------------------

Walruses can sing for up to 50 hours straight! See if you can impress
another walrus with your singing! (Time limit one minute)

Tip: Press the correct shown button/wii shake and timed right. If you miss the
correct shown button/wii shake or mis-time it then it takes one away from
your total for each incorrect response.

Food Fight:
-----------

Win the tug-a-war. Wrestle the food away from the male bear.

Tip: Push repeatedly button shown/wii shake and start before the other bear.
There is only one tug session per level so it is quick.

Balance Fight:
--------------

Push your opponent in the lake. Brother bear thinks he's the strongest, let's
see who can stay on the ice float!
