The best gear that I know of would be the Rainbow gear which costs around 9999 rings in the Shop, and it's the most expensive gear in the game. It's like the Omnipotience or however it was called, but you change gears anytime you want with just 50-90 rings. It's perfectly useful if you want to test out Jet with a Power Gear, or Tails with a Speed Gear, etcetera.
