2 possibilities. 1) you just started your game: go east from your house and up the trail a little ways. You should see a large spring on the right of the map. Head there.
2) you are getting ready to leave the village and go to Hyrule Castle for the first time: go to your house and go east again only this time, when you are in the open area before you get to the spring, check the east wall for a small hole to crawl through.

Go to the spring (big patch of blue on minimap) and press A near some horse shoe(U) shaped grass, press A again to blow it, this will call Epona to you.
