I knocked the 15th shadow insect off the barrier but was killed
I am at Death mountain, I have all but the 15th bug I cannot find it. I have knocked it off the barrier and then was killed

Which barrier are you talking about?
There are 3 shadow insects (14th, 15th and 16th) in Death Mountain area.
14th is on path up to Death Mountain, in between fumaroles and howling stone.
15th is at base of Death Mountain, where you fight 4 shadow beings, on metallic wall in corner of area.
16th is in empty hot spring area.
Use 1 and 2 buttons to check map and minimap. The insects are marked as large white circles. Go to the spot, use your wolf sense, press C button, and look around. Insect might be in the air. Don't think the 15th one can dig/hide underground.
