There's 7 monkeys, but you only need one more to get to the mini boss. One of the rooms has two monkeys in it (where the two man-eating plants and the two red plants are). There are two different rooms over there, each with it's own monkey imprisoned there. I imagine you got one room, but there is a room you missed.
