Ok the building with the water wheel in front of it contains the sheild. So you need to have Midna help you get up there and into the house. The sheild is hanging on a wall at the back of the room. Jump up there and jump into the wall twice to make the shield fall. The sword is in the building where your friend and his pregnant wife live. Sneak over there watching out for your friend and use your senses to find a hole next to the house you can crawl in. The sword will be right in front of you. Good luck!

You have to sneak up to them. Don't go across the bridge. Get in the swimming hole and climb out behind the house. You can then slowly sneak up on them and you'll hear what they say.

Shield ~ Go inside the home where those two people were talking. To get there, go near the General Shop, and use Minda to jump from roof to roof, until you jump through the window. Just knock the shield down to obtain it.

Sword ~ Go to the village elder (the one who's son gave you the fishing pole), and go to the right side of the house without being seen. Now, just dig through a mound of dirt next to the house, and you'll appear inside of it. Now, just grab the sword laying on the table or wall (can't remember), and get out of there.

Hope I helped;
