The paper that you would give the ghost is the love letter that Crawlin gives you. You actually have a choice, deliver the letter like Crawlin wants you to, or give it to the ghost. Each option leads to a different outcume, but neither option plays out well for Crawlin.
You will get the Gratitude Crystals regardless of which option you choose, you'll just get them from someone different.
