Question for Super Smash Bros. Brawl

I was on wifi yesterday and saw some peach like move across the floor and throw an item up? I've seen so many people do this but how? It looks like they're sliding and they just throw the item up o_o. How do people do that?

Either it's Lag or they're doing the dodge trick that allows you to slide on the ground.
