Question for Super Paper Mario

Im stuck where you on 1-3 where you hove to gaze at the side of the sign post and it says to push - and 1 at the same time and I can't get it to work.

At the end of the whole level, there is a dead end but before it, a blue platform. Go on top of it and press the 1 and - button together.
