I'm having a little trouble with the racing portion of the game.What are some good tips?I keep falling out making me start over but I just can't win!

Focus on turning and not fall off. Speed is usually not a issue in these races. I found it useful to almost completely slow down before turning corners.
If it is the surfing one then you have to get to the end with out falling off.
