How do do you get past the steel door to the steam engine, in the abandoned town?

The same thing happened with me. The problem was probably that a flag wasn't triggered properly. The steel door that prevents you from going on to the steel train is/should have opened when you receive the quest "Try not to blow this one up" The sad and painful answer to this question is to reset the level which should put you back in the bar you arrived in when the train you were on was destroyed by Shinjiro.
