How do you get the purple gun in the pirate homeworld? It shows me the room to get it on the second floor but there is a device that won't move from the side I'm on.

I have a fuzzy memory so I don't remember exactally but just keep wandering around in different places all over the pirate homeworld until you get a transmission from one of those dudes on your side that you see in the begining where you coradinate you gun and then go twords him
