You know when you click on the race itself if you are the "gost to race" you have the expert staff gost.

you can go to this site: http://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_Wii. then go to the expert staff ghosts and look at the vehicle it says there and then look at the one on your wii. if it is the same kart or bike its a expert ghost. if it is not it is a normal ghost

It will tell you when your best times show up after beating a track. Instead of saying "You got a better time" or "You didn't get a fast time" it will say "You unlocked an expert staff ghost"
