Star Circling Character in Time Trials

Hi,
I have a question about what I've done to achieve this. When I go to the GCN Peach Beach with Rosalina Time Trial, there is one golden star cirlcing around my character the entire time. When I switch characters, say to Donkey Kong who I've gotten my best time for that course with, there is no star.

Does anyone know why?

Okay so I looked again and it is around her for every course...not just peach beach. Is it becasue she is an unlockable character or something else?

The little star is part of the character. The star's name is Luma and roselina is is her best freind so luma sticks with her.
