Nintendo holds wi-fi tournaments every now and then, so yes the game has events.

And yes this game is worth getting on my opinion. It has a great wifi option where you can play your friends or people you don't know over the internet. And it also has a pretty cool one player mode that will take you hours to beat. So yeah taking everything into consideration I would say this game is defenently worth getting. However it isnt a really competitive(in depth)game, so it just depends on what you like, however I like it.

It does have an event...tournaments! Also, it is pretty fun, and personally, I think the CPUs got harder to beat. The items they get are very annoying, but that's what makes you frustrated and want to keep playing to win! Smile It's also so much fun doing tricks such as flips, 360s, super-high jumps, going through cannons (instead of like in MK: DD (Mario Kart: Double Dash), they now have not just one course with a cannon, but a few), etc. If you have Wi-Fi, you can play others online, and check friend, regional, and worldwide rankings for who has the best time trial. This makes Wi-Fi really competitive! They've also added new twists, like tricks while jumping, motorbikes, unexpected characters (this isn't really a spoiler, but an unlockable character is one from Super Mario Galaxy), and my favorite, 12 people racing! That means that when you are first place, you don't get just 10 points, but 15! Yes, 15! I know you can't count that on your fingers! Overall, it's a really good game!

Yes, MarioKart Wii wi-fi has I think 2 monthly events, they are always different, like time trials or battles etc.
I totally recommend buying this game, it's brilliant, you'll get hours of fun off it, especially if you have wi-fi set up.

There are two types of events, tournaments and special ghosts. These events are held on wi-fi connection, and will change eventually. Hope this helps!

BUY THE GAME!!! It might be one of the best Nintendo Games ever! Wii Zelda Rocks...Mario64 was groundbreaking...and this is certainly the best mario kart wii ever...with one exception. It doesn't seem to have 1 on 1, or 1 on 1 on 1, etc battle mode...I'm still trying to figure out if I can do that.
