The one's that I've seen need you to use the FOCUS spell on them and then do whatever they want or need to get what they have. The FOCUS is the yellow spell or the one with the clouds over the persons head in the cut scenes that's why it's so confusing they use two different things to make you use one spell. Hope that helps you out.
