How do you deploy flares?

When you get missile lock itl say things like releae flares, break right, break left, hit the deck etc. break right===== shake controller to right
Break left====== shake controller to left
Hit the deck==== shake the contoller downwards
Interloop======= shake controller upwards
Counter measure= shake contoller anywhere
All I did was press A over and over when it told me to deploy the flares.
