It's been a while, so my guess is you probably have figured it out. You don't need to get into a helicopter. Shoot down the helicopters with the rockets on the small guard towers - they have computers next to them with a red button. Kill the enemies as they come out - there are tons of them. Stay away from walls, sometimes they'll blow up (the base is being destroyed).

Eventually, you'll find a door (near the turret gun) that leads to some office type areas. On the second floor you'll find a door leading to a balcony. Take it, and you'll find a motorcycle and you can escape easily after that.
