I'm wondering what the purpose is of the cedar trees? The other trees bear fruit that I can sell for Bells. I did catch a bug hanging from a cedar tree but I guess that they must have more of a purpose. Why would Tom Nook offer one to buy each day if they weren't important?

On christmas they will have lights in them to spice up your town. It makes it look more festive
Like michy said, they are there to make Christmas festive, but other than that, they are just like any other tree. You can get 100 bells randomly from shaking it, and bugs/bees.
Around christmas they get lights, and sometimes you can get bugs, money, or rarely a piece of furniture (it looks like a leaf when it falls out). Other than that they have no real purpose.
