Yes and no
1.)if you time travel to far into the future there will be alot of weed and you might miss somthing important

Lt Verwolf answered:

What happens is weeds appear in your town and residents will move away. But time traveling is good if you don't have any cheats to get money. It takes awhile but it is worth it.

Well... What I heard is that if you time travel your game becomes glitched It affects the turnip lady. U can't buy red turnips and the market is no good but only what I heard. Also to fix it they said that you have to reset your time to the right date to your wii time and wait one week. Also when you time travel they say it's better to change your wii time and not your game time. If I'm wrong let them know for me lol but this is what I heard ^^ Take care!

I have a problem I don't find listed anywhere else. My store (Nookington's) has closed for several days now and I can't sell anything. I can't find anyway to get the store to reopen. Hopefully it will do so eventually. This is the worst result of time travel that I have found.

Time traveling is fine with me. I do it tons of times to pay off my rent and right now the easiest is going to Easter and replaying the day over and over again. I get about 100,000 bells every time I go to Easter, get the eggs and exchange the foil for gifts and sell em, and KEEP THE CANDY for Halloween, u'll have tons you can give to jack with means more money ;)
The only down side is that;
1) I feel outta place, dunno why I just do when I don't get back to my time quick enough
2) You get tons of weeds and clover patches but I would take that any time when I can get about 1 million bells every day for going back to Easter.
3) Friends from you town move away and some move in and you are like wth! Who is that or where is such and such
4) You always need to go back to sham-poodle and get your hair redone because if you time travel for too many days you hair goes bzerk literally, you get a major bed head.
5) You have to pull out that annoying clover as well as the weed but on the plus side it gives you a bigger change of getting a four leaf clover ;)

In the game if you put lots of money into the bank right, then you got to the wii settings and go as far out on the years as it can go, go back to your person, save and keep doing that. Its toatally worth it if you find the geenie lamp and the geenie!

Ok since this topic is scattered throughout a bunch of different forums with people saying different things some of it is consistent so here's what I found.
.May effect phineas(only comes on days there is no clouds in sky)- they say may take two weeks for him to show again.

.Effects nooks papers and tools (they remain the same)- this is true

.Effects marquee emotions (they remain the same)- this is true

.Effects Joan (comes every sunday) - they say white turnips die if you go back in time <- this is true and if you time travel before Sunday she will not sell red turnip.
*also if you time travel forward prices of turnips in Nooks store will remain low*

.If you travel to far in time neighbors move, weeds grow, you miss exclusive events, miss special items, you get cokaroaches, over ceowded mailbox and bedhead <- this is all true
*also traveling to often will lead to neighbors wanting to move*

.Effects wether Selena will give you a gold shovel (says she wont because you cheated)- this is true

.Effects trees (if you go back in time the tree grows more slowly however if you go forward in time it will grow quicker)- this is true

All that said if you time travel just a couple days ahead or so you should be fine I haven't proved phineas or Joan to be either true or false yet *however it is said to fix just put time on wii back to normal and wait a week*

Yes, when you time travel, villagers move out because you are not visiting them, weeds appear all over your town, you get a bed head, and you can miss important days and holidays. You
Bassicly ruin your town!!

Matt77 answered:

These things happen when you time-travel.

1) You get HEAPS of weeds. It will take ages to pull them all.

2) Some of your villagers will move away.

3) The villagers that are left will be shocked or angry that you were gone for so long.

So don't time-travel. It has many bad consequences.
