Why did the turnips, in my pockets, turn rotten? They turned rotten within one day and I wasn't able to sell them and make money from them.

You cannot skip time or wait too long with turnips, or they will go rotten. This is not new to the AC games.
In the other AC games, if you put the turnips on a table they'll last forever. Unfortunately, the prorammers saw this and "fixed" it. There is no way whatsoever to stop turnips from rotting. >:-( sorry...
Relax, it's not all that bad. If you buy turnips in small amounts, let them rot, and leave them on the ground, you may see ants or flies around them. They might not be worth much, but you must catch them in order to obtain the golden net.
