In the Desert there are 3 keys to find, once you have them the gate will open. the keys are up high, and are hard to see. They are around rock formations, one is on top of the loop, another is at the end of a ramp, I cant remember exactly where the 3rd one is, use the rollers to get them!!

I finally figured out how to open up the locked gate in the desert.... If you know where that weird box type thing is that has the letter "N" written on it, then all you have to do is (with the roller monster thing) shake both the remote and nunchuck at the same time in order to roller against the boxy thing, which will then open up the gate. Hope that helps.
