Campaign Part 1: Day Zero (7 of 8)
This time around we discover that Leon is alive! He faked his own death to twart his enemies - though that actually sort of sucks because we had to pay the price for his supposed death.... Hey!
It seems that Leon has come back to help us to deal with the energy crisis....
Before you start playing this Mission there are some things you need to know - time is your enemy. You need to pay attention to the Tasks and Goals here - and not make this take longer - which it will - if you try to modernize your infrastructure on the island while seeing to the people and industry.
Proactive activity is really harmful here - for example you need to EXPORT Uranium - but there is only so much in your mines. If you build a Nuclear Power Plant you will end up using so much you cannot complete the main goal of the Mission - so don't do that.
Conversely though you must provide adequate power for the industry and other buildings you will be prompted to build - and you MUST keep your population happy. This really is no easy task!
The recommended settings for this are:
Island: Cayo de Fortuna
Economic Difficulty: Medium
Political Difficulty: Medium
Disasters: Occasional
Our first task is to export 20K Uranium....
Right so our first task should be to verify that we are in fact mining Uranium and if not, mine it! Next we want to check and see what industry we have on the island and how much capacity our Coal Burning Power Plants have available. We may need to add more of them...
I cannot stress to you enough that you need to boost the economy for this while at the same time ensuring that the citizens are happy. The best way to do that is to research as quick as you can the upgrade for larger housing. Then build some. As for industry - the game will let you know what you need to add as a consequence of the Tasks. Take your lead from them.
You will also get a Task to build a Science Lab and two Cathedrals - that should be a priority as well.
The greatest challenge you will face in this Mission is surviving the election process. Unlike the other island where the major focus is industry - here it is Tourism... That has to change.
One thing that will help a lot is to get the Drydock built and expanded since that doubles the number of ships you have to use for Trade - and Trade will get you more money for your goods than just letting them get sold on the open market.
One of the real sore points is going to be housing... And before you think you can just build the largest of the housing options - bear in mind that is only for rich citizens - not poor. You need a mixture of the different types for it to be effective.
There is likely to be a lot of unrest - particularly with the citizens - so speeding up the production of Uranium is a good idea. You can do that by modernizing the mines for automated extraction. Just saying... Even if you do not do particularly well in terms of keeping the population happy you should be able to deliver all 20K Uranium to the docks before a coup can succeed. But then once you DO that, you will discover that Leon has not been entirely honest with you - Penultimo will urge you to destroy all of the Uranium Mines (you have to do that to win the Mission).
So once you have delivered all of the Uranium / Destroyed the Mines, it is victory! Of course that does not mean you left the nation in great shape... Just saying.
In the process of completing this Mission you will very likely unlock the Achievements The Town of Cityville (20G) Built 150 buildings in a single game, Booked Solid (10G) Had Slob, Family, Cultural, Eco and Wealthy tourists at the same time on the island, Globalist (10G) Had 5 foreign powers in your Embassies at the same time, and naturally, Day 0 (20G) Completed “Day 0.”
Yes it is - sadly it is one that requires a little luck and a lot of effort. You may need to replay it several times but you will win it eventually!
This mission is so hard. :(
