When you see a purple light it is to indicate that there is a diary page which you can retrieve by hitting down.
Gold Light
A gold light indicates that there is a stash of rations on the side.
Right Light
If you see a red light it is to indicate there is a weapon on the ground.
Green Light
Whenever you see a green light it is to indicate that you are fast approcahing a turn.
