If you want to do more damage when you attack just hold X when you are selecting an attack and keep the button pressed until you attack.

To play the game on the Imperial side, start a new game.

Then beat the levels until your at the level where Bastion's grandfather is gonna fight Fualkner and you have to face the prince.

This is simple just go in a group and kill the Prince.

Then beat the level and you'll have a choice to go after Fualkner or your grandpa.

Go after Faulkner and there you go, you will be on the Imperial side in a couple of levels....!
