While we have previously mentioned this elsewhere in the guide, this view of the Mystery Box Shop is offered to fill in the strategic value that it represents. What strategic value you might ask? Well a big one - especially if you are the sort of player inclined to desire the sort of Objects that an only be obtained by spending LP and SP!

Here is the deal: The Mystery Box Shop offers just what it sounds like - Mystery Boxes. These are obtained by trading Keys - a specific number of Keys for the specific level of Mystery Box.

To obtain the Keys you need to trade for Mystery Boxes, you must complete the Weekly Tasks Sets in the given time, which naturally enough consists of a week!

Depending upon the level of the Mystery Box you choose to unlock / buy with your Keys you will get a different assortment of Objects, some of which will be the sort you would ordinarily be using LP or SP (and with the higher level boxes LP and SP) to purchase.

So basically the Weekly Tasks give you something fun to do, and as long as you develop a solid habit for doing them and get them done, a source for special Objects that you can obtain without parting with precious SP and LP!

Special Missions add to the entertainment value of FreePlay

So What Comes in the Boxes?

There are four types or levels of Mystery Box that you can obtain via the Mystery Box Shop, and these are:

Box Level One - Curiosity Box - Cost = 1 Key

This box contains a random selection of the following Items and Objects:

  • x1 Common Item

  • x3 Standard Prizes

Box Level Two - Loot Box - Cost = 3 Key

This box contains a random selection of the following Items and Objects:

  • x2 Common Items

  • x2 Premium Prizes

  • x4 Standard Prizes

Box Level Three - Bounty Box - Cost = 5 Key

This box contains a random selection of the following Items and Objects:

  • x1 Rare Item

  • x4 Premium Prizes

  • x6 Standard Prizes

Box Level Four - Fortune Box - Cost = 10 Key

This box contains a random selection of the following Items and Objects:

  • x2 Rare Items

  • x12 Premium Prizes

  • x10 Standard Prizes

So basically you successfully complete the Weekly Tasks for one week, three weeks, five weeks, or ten weeks, and you get a reward that is commensurate with the amount of time and effort that you put in. What, you are likely wondering, does that mean?

A Sampling of Rewards

If you are curious but do not want to waste your Keys on the lower priced boxes it may interest you to know that our experience with the Boxes was as follows:

1-Key Mystery Box

The following 4 Items were the contents of the box - each listed below being a different "item" and reward inside the box:

  • 2,000 XP

  • $5,000

  • 2 Wind Resource (Temple)

  • 3-Star Light

3-Key Mystery Box

The following 8 Items were the contents of the box - each listed below being a different "item" and reward inside the box:

  • $1,500

  • 1500 XP

  • 8 LP

  • 8 SP

  • $1,000

  • 1 Lava Rock

  • 3-Star Bathtub

  • SP Decoration

Saving up Keys is very time-consuming but the delayed result is often well worth the wait! Just keep doing the weekly quest sets!

5-Key Mystery Box

The following 11 Items were the contents of the box - each listed below being a different "item" and reward inside the box:

  • $2,000

  • 2 Gold Bars

  • $2,000

  • 8 LP

  • 6 LP

  • 3 Lava Rocks

  • 3 Lava Rocks

  • 2 Studio Lights

  • 2,500 XP

  • 2,000 XP

  • 3-Star LP Furniture

10-Key Mystery Box

The following 24 Items were the contents of the box - each listed below being a different "item" and reward inside the box:

  • 2,500 XP

  • 2,000 XP

  • $1,500

  • $1,500

  • $1,500

  • 3,000 XP

  • 3 Gold Bar

  • 2,000 XP

  • $2,500

  • 1,500 XP

  • 5 LP

  • 3 Picks

  • 6 SP

  • 5 LP

  • 6 LP

  • 8 LP

  • 5 SP

  • 5 SP

  • 5 LP

  • 5 LP

  • 3 Studio Lights

  • 3 Coral Rock

  • SP Dresser (Value = 24 SP)

  • SP Couch (Value = 28 SP)

Note that when you claim and open a box it deducts the number of Keys from your total, so for example the cost of opening one of each type of box, listed above, was 19 Keys in total -- being x1 Key, then x3 Keys, then x5 Keys, and finally x10 Keys for 19 Keys total.

Now personally, after considering the different types of Items that were in each box and weighing the results, I have come to the conclusion that claiming anything OTHER than the 10-Key Mystery Box makes no sense. Consider the economics of the above prizes:

Box Level One - Curiosity Box - Cost = 1 Key

This box contains x1 Common Item and x3 Standard Prize Items whose value will vary widely but for our example adds up to:

Box Level Two - Loot Box - Cost = 3 Key

This box contains x2 Common Items, x2 Premium Prizes, and x4 Standard Prize Items whose value will vary widely but for our example adds up to:

  • $2,500

  • 8 LP

  • 8 SP

  • 1,500 XP

  • 1 Temple Resources

  • 2 Rare Furnishings

Box Level Three - Bounty Box - Cost = 5 Key

This box contains x1 Rare Item, x4 Premium Prizes, and x6 Standard Prize Items whose value will vary widely but for our example adds up to:

  • $4,000

  • 14 LP

  • 2013 SP

  • 4,500 XP

  • 10 Temple Resources

  • 1 Rare Furnishing

Box Level Four - Fortune Box - Cost = 10 Key

This box contains x2 Rare Items, x12 Premium Prizes, and x10 Standard Prize Items whose value will vary widely but for our example adds up to:

  • $7,000

  • 34 LP

  • 16 SP

  • 11,000 XP

  • 12 Temple Resources

  • 2 Rare Furnishing

To my way of thinking the contents of the 10 Key Mystery Box far far outweighs the contents of two of the 5-Key boxes by a landslide! In particular the LP and SP, but the money and XP was not bad either. Getting the two rare bits of furnishings added another 52 SP to the total value of the box so that pops the SP value in that box to 68 SP!

Yeah, totally worth the effort. Granted going with just the 10=Key boxes means only getting five of the boxes in a calendar year, the benefits far outweighs that minor inconvenience! In fact the adrenalin rush of seeing the reveal of the 10-Key Fortune Box contents was better than when I got the Key to the Ski Lift and built the bridge to the Island combined!

The GEICO Pig's name is Maxwell, and while Progressive seems to be the Insurance Co of FreePlay we can always hope for Max to come to our fav game world right?

In addition to the thrills you might want to bear in mind that among the rare Items and Objects that have been obtained via the 10-Key Fortune Mystery Box includes two items that ordinarily you would have to spend real-world money to get: the Automatic Pool Cleaner, the Dress-Up Chest -- and the Premium Object the Weather Machine, and how bloody cool is that?!

Yeah, I know that getting any one of those three Items is incredibly rare and you would have to be massively lucky and fortunate to get just one of them, still the fact that you can is pretty effing awesome!

Not Useful

To get Studio Lights, just have a teenager start the Teen Idol hobby. Then you can buy musical instruments and
play them to get lots of things including Studio Lights.

You can only click on the mystery box shop while the weekly goal is in progress, unfortunately. The button is located next to the weekly task progress bar.

10 weeks of waiting and playing this game and they go and change it at the last second!??!!
