Introduction

The Sims 3 pets is a stand alone game for Xbox 360 that can use the Kinect sensor (if you have one) to automatically do some of the things in the game. You can create households of up to 6 Sims including dogs and cats of various age ranges. There are challenges and mysteries to complete that are fun and interactive.

Graphics

The graphics for the game are very good. They incorporate the well known Sims persona without going overboard on the realistic side. The start menu and loading screen are colourful and the animals look great. However when you go into a faster mode the gameplay becomes clunky and you lose the flow of the game, which is disappointing to see.

Sound

The sounds of the Sims 3 pets are almost identical to the other Sims games we've had. The music is lively and upbeat with many different types to choose from. The guitar music level 6 is especially worth sitting through the game to hear. The voices of the Sims and pets are a bit annoying after a while and you do want to put them on mute from time to time but that's just a nit pick.

Gameplay

The actual gameplay doesn't live up to the rest of the game. There are long loading screens in the way which let down the game, as well as the numerous glitches within the gameplay which make the game almost unplayable. However, the actual lives of the Sims are made really interesting from the variety of traits, skills and careers you can choose and you can make almost anything. The mystery challenges are a great skill motivator but can take away from the realism of the game itself. The controls are okay but the voice recognition is very stupid and unnecessary to have and it's definitely A lot harder to play than the PC rendition.

Lastability

You can keep playing this game for ages both in real and Sim-World before you either get tired of the game or found a glitch that stops you from playing it. It's very hard to stay in love with a game that doesn't last as long as you want it to. I only got a few weeks into my sims life before I found the glitch that made the game unplayable. I really love the graphics of this game but for the lastability alone I would think twice about playing it.

Overall

Overall I found the game to be extremely enjoyable with the amount of control over your Sim's life and the amount of things you can accomplish in this game. However, with the amount of setbacks it has in glitches I would think twice before connecting with your characters too much as it is really annoying when you can't play with their lives anymore. I found the variety of skills and careers enjoyable to play, but for the slow gameplay as well as the loading screens and glitches this game is hard to love and hard to follow. For these reasons I would try a different console to play a Sims game on because this game doesn't have the same good controls and easy to enter cheats that made the PC game all that more enjoyable, so I would personally try the PC version instead of this for those that have a short attention span.
