The Krustyland Expansion

On 5 February 2014 after just over a year and a half of handling the Missions and Quests that take place in and center around the Krustyland Expansion and Zone for The Simpsons: Tapped Out, it finally dawned upon is that we have been addressing that part of the game incorrectly.

The very fact that Krustyland is a unique Expansion to the main game, with its Mission and Quest base that largely exists both independent from -- but also complimentary to -- the similar structures found in Springfield proper, essentially means that the new zone and its Content warrant a separate section in the Guide.

For perspective on this matter consider that in this case, the base game really is restricted to the zone that is identified as "Springfield" -- an area that can be said to encompass the City of Springfield and, presuming that the player has logically divided its mixed commercial, government, and urban residential spaces from the more suburban residential and light commercial presence, also a Town of Springfield (or perhaps Township?).

With that distinction made, it is much more obvious on its face that both Springfield Squidport and Krustyland are distinctly separate zones.

It is fair to describe Springfield Squidport as a beach-focused "community" that is found within the confines of the City in much the same manner that Coney Island is considered to be a part of New York City. In fact in Legal terms, as far as that goes, Coney Island is actually treated as if it was a neighborhood of New York City naturally defined by the border of water and sand that God created.

So, with that taken into consideration, despite the late date, we have opted to carefully comb through the established Guide Sections and extract all of the Content that applies exclusively to Krustyland, moving it here, to this new Section of the Guide.

The Krustyland Expansion adds a new type of money - Tickets - to the game!
The Krustyland Expansion adds a new type of money - Tickets - to the game!

What Krustyland Is....

The addition of the Krustyland Zone into Tapped Out represented the game's second Content Expansion, and took place on 31 July, 2013.

Krustyland offers Tappers a whole new zone in the game which can only be reached via the Krustyland Bus -- buying and placing the bus port for which in your Springfield is the first step on this whole new adventure -- and map zone -- which is naturally completely separate from the regular Springfield Game Play area and zone.

Once you have placed the Krustyland Bus Port in your Springfield, you will then be able to travel between the two areas using the dedicated Shuttlebus services. Not only that, but any Neighbor who visits your Springfield will also be able to utilize the Shuttle Bus Services or, if they choose to, simply select the Krustyland portion of the map to travel directly to that zone upon initially loading your town for the visit.

To place the Krustyland Bus Port in your Springfield, and begin the challenging process of reBuilding Krustyland, and building up your supply of the new currency for that new zone -- Krustyland Tickets -- you will need to have attained a minimum of Level 20 or higher for your Springfield.

In addition to offering you a new Game Play zone in which to rebuild Krustyland, and new Ticket-based currency with which Land Expansion and Buildings as well as objects, Decorations, and the like are to be purchased, you will also discover that Krustyland has its own Version of Springfield's Conform-O-Meter, which will quickly become an important element in guiding your hand at reconstruction.

In simple terms this new “Krust-O-Meter” functions quite the same as the Conform-O-Meter but in addition to generating Bonus percentages for Krustyland serves a far more critical function: the higher you get the Krust-O-Meter, the larger the number of park visitors you have -- and that directly translates into the bigger daily take in Tickets!

Make no mistake, getting that Meter up as fast as you can is absolutely in your best interest.

As you begin the rebuilding process, and as you expand both the park and the meter, you will find that the process is a smaller scale Version of the challenges that you previously have been facing back in Springfield, which means you already understand the basic challenges -- and the necessary Strategy -- required for success!

Krustyland is very similar to the Squidport Expansion in that there are exclusive Items, objects, and structures, many of which tie directly into the mission system that you will be completing as you make your way up and out of the disaster that was caused by Homer Simpson.

The better advanced your Krustyland is, the more visitors it will get, and the more Tickets you will earn. In addition to all that though, thanks to the solid connection between Springfield and Krustyland you will also find that as you advance the one, the other will benefit.

TKPoE Phase I

When the Quest marker appears above Krusty's head and you tap it you initiate a conversation between Lisa, Bart, and Krusty that directly relates to the new Expansion Content for the game, the addition of Krusty's Theme Park.

Part 1 of the quest line requires you to place a new structure -- the Krustyland Shuttle -- and then tap the Shuttle to visit Krustyland!

Placing the Shuttle Structure will cost you $50,000 in Cash, and is an instant build -- and with it placed, that completes the first half of Part 1. The second half simply requires you to tap the Shuttle and visit Krustyland, at which point you will

The Krusty-est Place On Earth Pt. 2 -- Make Homer Clean up Krustyland. To complete this quest you will need Homer - which means he cannot be doing another quest or task as he must be available for this as it is an active action.

If Homer is on another task/quest return to Springfield and wait for his timer to complete, and then tap the Shuttle again when he is available and return to Krystyland. Once you are there, have Homer clean up the mess that is present in the land area that you have access to at Krustyland at the moment.

Yes, this new destination has locked land that you are going to need to purchase in order to expand it, just like back home -- which is one of the reasons why much of the Leveling from Levels 15 through 18/19 was spent treading water and collecting taxes and doing repeat tasks to build up a warchest of Money! By now you should be very happy you did that... Just saying.

The Clean Up: Just like back in Springfield each cleaning action requires 6s and results in a predictable reward (in this case XP and Krustyland Tickets). Cleaning up the land here completes this part of the quest and triggers a conversation with Krusty that explains the Tickets and their function.

This documents the Krustyland portion of the quests for this part of the Guide and covers Levels 21 thru 25. The actual full set of Missions no longer spans multiple Guide Sections, as it is now fully contained here, in this Section.

This adjusted organization structure will help you in quickly finding the information you need based upon the quest, thanks to it all being in one convenient place in the Guide. Remember that our site fully indexes each guide so you CAN do keyword and context-based searches as well.

Phase II in Review

Krusty's Theme Park is now well under way to being restored to its former glory, as you have completed all of the quests in the quest line through Level 20. Now that you have broken Level 21 it is time to begin the next phase in the park's development.

This segment of play for the Krustyland Expansion is one of the most gratifying in that where we started with a much destroyed park that consisted of a parking lot and, well, wreckage... We have now morphed that situation into something more pleasing to the eyes.

The restoration of facilities in this icon of consumer addiction will shortly reach the point where the next "Level" of community involvement tops up, leading to non-character generic NPC type tourists and park visitors filling in the empty paths and finally creating the lines for which the park was built... I mean, it WAS built so that people could stand in lines and queue up for attractions, right?

This next segment of the quest line consists of two parts:

  • Place the Knock Over the Fuzzy Guy Stall... This Building will cost you a massive 500 Tickets so if you have yet to collect that many get to it! Placing this building requires Level 21 and once placed it will boost your Merch Rating just a bit!

  • Make Martin try to Knock Over the Fuzzy Guy! Have Martin do the task Knock Over the Fuzzy Guy (1h) to earn 21 Tickets and 17 XP and move the Krustyland quest line forward.

Moving Krustyland to the Next Level

When you place the Knock Over the Fuzzy Guy attraction something very important will happen -- a small group of NPC park visitors will appear and become part of the Krustyland Zone.

Not only do these new visitors provide some much-needed human presence (there are an adult couple - Mom & Dad - a teenaged boy - Son - with a hatchet ala Itchy & Scratchy, and two young girls - Sis 1 and Sis 2, two of them have timers attached that, when they run out, spawn Tickets for you to harvest, so they are attractive AND functional!

At this point your Krust-O-Meter should finally have gained a single Star since you have placed four (4) stars among the individual stats. Each four stars you gain in the individual stats translates to a single Meter Star and thus 1% increase in your take.

As far as additional stars, Decorations, or Expansion of the park are concerned your priority should be as follows:

Wait for the game to prompt you to place attractions, objects, or Decorations before you use Tickets (and especially before you use Donuts!) so you have guidance towards what gets placed and when, and you do not place something too early that you end up having to duplicate because you did!

When voluntarily using Tickets you should be more concerned with opening new sections of the Park and cleaning them up than in placing Decorations for the sake of decorating. Since you will eventually need to unlock and clean ALL of the available land, doing so before you need to is better (and less likely to be a mistake) than not.

Remember to harvest Tickets as soon as you can -- try not to forget about Krustyland and to visit it each time you have a play session in the main game so that you are efficiently stocking up your Ticket total. Remember there is no such thing as an "Extra Ticket!"

At this point in your restoration of Krustyland you should have the following Items MINIMUM (and not counting any that you added on your own):

Krustyland Entrance (Action: Searching Bags for Outside Food (2h) 18 Tickets and 6 XP)

Ring Toss Attraction (Action: None)

Death Drop Ride (Action: Scattering Pocket Change (4h) 27 Tickets and 15 XP)

Krustyland Burger (Action: Thawing "Meat" Patties (8h) 40 Tickets and 15 XP)

Knock Over the Fuzzy Guy Attraction (Action: Try (to) Knock Over the Fuzzy Guy (1h) 21 Tickets and 17 XP)

You should also have the beginnings of your network of Krustyland Paths that will nicely divide up the park and give you logical places by which to place attractions, rides, and other objects.

In addition to the above placed objects you may also have placed some other Items at your discretion --- the ones above are all the product of the Tutorial and Quests -- for example in our game we placed a Clown Garbage Can next to our Krustyland Burger (which cost us 15D and improved our Kitsch rating).

We also placed another Ring Toss Attraction next to our Krustyland Burger not out of need (remember that attraction does not earn passive Tickets or XP) but out of the desire for our park to look less empty! Plus considering the size of it the 35 Ticket price seems reasonable for the intended purpose.

After the timer runs out on Martin's ball-throwing task you will complete Part 12 of the Krusty-est Place on Earth and receive the Krustyland Version of the standard reward for that quest segment -- which works out to 20 Tickets and 10 XP -- which has the immediate effect of closing out this quest and instantly flagging the next quest in the line, Part 13.

The Krusty-est Place On Earth Pt. 13 -- Reach Level 22 and Build Sleeping Itchy's Castle!

That's right campers, we have now reached the point in rebuilding this palace that is dedicated to the memory of Itchy & Scratchy -- and Krusty -- wherein we place one of the cornerstone attractions of the park!

Sleeping Itchy's Castle -- Level 22 / Build Cost = 1,000 Tickets

Action Reward = 52 Tickets and 17 XP every Ten Hours (10h)

Sleeping Itchy's Castle tends to serve as a hub element for the park -- remember if you get separated from Mommy and Daddy, go to the entrance to Sleeping Itchy's Castle and they will meet you there! After all this is a central (and crucial) element of the classic fairytale whose details are so universally well known that clearly we need not share it, since every child and adult knows The Story. You do know the story, right?

The limiting factor here is likely to be cost -- 1,000 Tickets -- which you may need to accumulate before you can continue. Construction time from the placement of the site to unlocking the drawbridge is 24-hours, by which time (one real life day like) you will probably want to save up an additional 500 Tickets in order to unlock the Land Expansion block to the left or the right of where you placed the Castle so that you can wrap the path around the other side, right?

Once you have the Tickets and have chosen the location to place the Castle (we recommend that you place it in the very center of the area to the right near where the wreckage for the letter "L" of the old KRUSTYLAND Sign was located before you had Homer or Lisa clear it up....

Obviously you can place this wherever you like, but if you place it in the center indicated above and have the Krustyland Path circle around it we think that makes it look really sharp... Just saying.

Personally we believe that the team that was responsible for creating the Krustyland Expansion to Tapped Out and for creating the various Missions, Quests, and Tasks was purely brilliant. They managed to do all of this while placing their finger directly upon the evasive pulse of the very spirit of what it means to be a fan of The Simpsons and then keep it there. Seriously!

Forgetting for the moment that very few of the fans and gamers playing this game own a pair of shoes that is older than the TV Show around which it is based, and more to the point forgetting that the fantasy world of Springfield and all of its beloved Characters have had an incredible run -- and are still going strong -- most of the gamers playing this game were not even alive when the show it is based on first aired on TV!

They have us nailed so we should be grateful that they are just interested in entertaining us, and don't want something more valuable from us, like our souls. Just saying...

Bearing in mind that a lot of the purchases you will be making from here on out will have some hefty price tags in terms of Tickets that are not quite offset by the improved earnings in Ticket Tax that has been put in place, you will want to be sure that you are collecting the Tax here ins Krustyland at least twice a day! Note: This is one of the Missions that initially cannot be rushed (completed spending Donuts) so if you need Lisa for something else and were counting upon finishing it with Donuts, you will need to allow this Quest to run off some time on the clock before the game will allow you to spend Donuts to end it early..

Watch the Stunt Show (12h) 126 Tickets and 100 XP.

The Krusty-est Place on Earth Pt. 28 -- Place a Cotton Candy Stand.

Completing this part of the Mission is as simple as opening the store in Krustyland and selecting the Cotton Candy Stand (which costs 400 Tickets) then placing it in your park.

Upon placement you are awarded with the traditional Bonus of 20 Tickets and 10 XP.

Having completed this Quest you will notice that Nelson has a chat bubble over his head for Krustyland - Tapping upon it initiates a conversation between Nelson and Lisa in which they discuss the rumor of the upcoming Haunted Mansion. When that conversation is completed you are notified that you have unlcoked Krusty's Haunted Condo!

The Krusty-est Place on Earth Pt. 29 -- Build Krusty's Haunted Condo.

The addition of this new Building to the list of available structures in the store also reveals that it will cost a massive 10,000 Tickets to build -- if you have not been saving up Tickets -- or more likely you have been using them to expand and enhance your park, you will need to save up the required amount now.

This may seem like really obvious information but... Saving up the Tickets that you need in order to make this major purpose generally works the easiest if you remember to actually collect Tickets each time you play. Having said that, the presumption is that you will make visiting Krustyland the first thing that you do each day when you play - the thing about that is that you need to remember that you are much better off NOT collecting the Tickets from the visitors of Krustyland each time you visit.

What we mean by that is, if you are only making one Game Play session a day, and therefore one visit to Krustyland per day, than collecting from the visitors is OK, but if you are having more than one session per day, you want to restrict your collecting from the visitors to Krustyland to just that first visit each day and allow the timer to wind longer for the visitors because the amount of Tickets they deliver increases the longer the timer runs.

Once you have the Tickets you need, simply purchase and place the structure project and wait for it to build.

Upon completing this Quest you are awarded with the traditional Bonus of 20 Tickets and 10 XP.

The Krusty-est Place on Earth Pt. 30 -- Tour Krusty's Haunted Condo.

If we are going to be entirely candid in our journalistic coverage of the budding romance that has developed between reformed bully Nelson and uber-geek Lisa Simpson, then their choice of Krusty the Clown's own Haunted Condo, situated smack in the middle of the newly rebuilt Krustyland, deserves closer examination.

And we would examine it closer but the thing is, um, yeah, ghosts make us you know....

The Krusty-est Place On Earth Pt. 31 -- Build Scratchy's Flea Dipper

This time around the quest is a realistic one - as it is time to build Scratchy's Flea Dipper!

Well, actually it is time to get to Level 27 and THEN build it right?

Unfortunately this is another one of the very VERY expensive Building projects in Krustyland -- and did we mention that it is rather expensive? Yeah, it is to the tune of 12,000 precious Krustyland Tickets.

Now considering that you recently had to save up 10,000 Tickets to build the Haunted Condo, chances are pretty high that you don't have the 12,000 Tickets required just now. I sure didn't.

So take some time, blend in with the yokel locals, try not to yell "Hay Rube!" and get you some Tickets!

Putting the ride construction project into play requires a build time of 1 Day 11 Hours, and once you have it built, the completed ride provides you 35 Tickets and 6 XP every 6 Hours.

TKPoE Phase IV

AKA The gentrification of Krustyland....

So, we have finally reached the point in the Krustyland Expansion that we have shifted away from restoring the objects that draw in the kids and their parents -- those being the rides, merch booths, and restaurants as well as the low-class and yet irresistible food stands -- and have arrived at the stage in the carefully planned redevelopment of Krustyland that kicks off with creating the Krustyland Hotel.

It may not be obvious straight away, but adding the Hotel to the park basically multiplies the potential profit levels and Income streams for the park -- think about it... There is the added revenue of providing on-sight housing for holiday making guests, but there is also the convention business, the Wolfgang Pock Terrace Restaurant, and the floating high-stakes poker game in the basement! Don't even get me started with the other entertainment on offer... Ah'hem, to adults.
