Part 02: The Forced Tutorial (Levels 4-6)

Thank you for printing this page from www.SuperCheats.com. Remember to come back to check for updates to this guide and much more content for The Simpsons: Tapped Out

Last Updated:

Now that you have completed Part 2 of The Story quest The New Evergreen Terrace you are rapidly moving forward, but before you can flag he next quest in the series an otherworldly encounter side-tracks you!

The Others

As you approach the Kwik-E-Mart a new character materializes out of thin air -- and this is when we meet Professor Frink for the first time.

Frink proceeds to explain to you about the other Springfields, which are located in alternate dimensions in which Characters very similar to those who occupy your Springfield exist, flagging the quest The Others for you.

To complete The Others you need to visit another Springfield, a task you will accomplish momentarily by accessing the Neighbor Screen by tapping the button that depicts Milhouse and Bart on the bottom-right-corner of the screen.

In a gesture very un-Homer-like, Homer warns Frink to return to his alternate Springfield and stop the Homer-there from making the same mistake that the Homer-here did, and prevent him from blowing up Springfield -- but Frink sadly reveals that it is too late to prevent that from happening...

He then proceeds to outline what turns out to be the Social Networking side of the game, and specifically the special area of the game wherein you will add your mates to your game, providing the mechanism that is required so that you can visit the other Springfield and they can visit yours.

Frink prompts you to tap the Friends Button, at which point you are “teleported” to the main menu for the alternate realities -- the Social Network Page in other words.

You will find a sample town readily available to you, owned by an NPC, and present for you to visit since you do not have any friends added to your game at this point... (Don't worry, you will get an opportunity to add mates to the game soon).

Adding friends to your game can be a fast track to leveling up
Adding friends to your game can be a fast track to leveling up

Your Origin Account

If you have not already done so, you should properly set up your game with your Origin Account (you should NOT be playing an anonymous game as that really will prevent you from making use of a number of features, including the Neighbors).

If you do not have an Origin Account, hit the site with your web browser and create one, then link your Springfield to it so that you can fully participate in the game.

With your game properly registered and linked to your Origin Account, once you complete this portion of the quest you will have the opportunity to add friends to your account. You can actually do this at any time, and you will want to do so as soon as you can for obvious reasons, not the least of which is this quest and the related Origin Discovery Quest that pretty much requires you to obtain one real human neighbor from one of your Friends or Contact Lists.

Visiting Other Springfields

Now we need to look at visiting the other Springfields, what is in it for you, and why you should be visiting all of your friends towns on a daily basis.

(1) Each time you visit another Springfield (you can do that one time per day, per city) you have the opportunity to complete three actions in each town, earning yourself extra XP and Cash for each action and 25 XP for each visit.

(2) The more mates you have playing the game, the more cities you can visit, the more Cash and XP you can gain, so we suggest you begin convincing all of your mates to start playing!

(3) Assuming that you take care to add Neighbors only when you have an I Choo-Choo-Choose You section you will also gain 5 Donuts for most of the friends that you add.

Once you complete the visit to the sample Neighbor's Springfield, you have now collected the rewards for the three actions you completed, and in addition, for completing all three actions the game rewards you with 25 XP and prompts you to return to your Springfield.

Do that, and you then complete the quest "The Others" and receive the reward of $100 and 10 XP. You also flag and complete the quest "Welcome to Origin" in one go, which pays you 2 Donuts for adding that “first” friend and Neighbor (the NPC).

The Neighbor Screen

In addition to showing you the towns for each of your Friends/Neighbors, this screen actually shows you the towns for your Friends/Neighbors. Hey, we are seriously not being obtuse when we say that!

If you really look at the Neighbor Screen you will notice that in addition to serving as the menu for selection of your Neighbor's towns in order to visit them, a closer examination will not only show you which expansions each specific Neighbor is into but provides a graphical representation of the progress that they have actually made in Building the Expansion!

You really have to be paying attention to what you are seeing to notice that -- but bear in mind that when you visit your Neighbor's town you do not have to use the three daily actions on their Springfield -- you can also use them on their Squidport OR their Krustyland.

Assuming for the moment that you need Tickets and XP more than you need Cash and XP, why then doing your actions in your Neighbor's Krustyland makes infinitely more sense. Just saying...

Welcome to Origin

There is a bit more to this quest than the game suggests at this stage -- particularly since it was expanded following the Whacking Day Event, so we should cover that now even though the actual quest series is spread throughout the game.

The real meat though and the point of the quest at least in part is to expose you to the settings menus. Once you are in the Origin / Neighbors Menu system the following choices are available:

(1) News

Under this menu there are two choices -- Updates and Invites.

Updates: The Updates Tab provides you with the most recent news activities of the people who are registered as your friends and whose towns appear in the Neighbors Screen.

Invites: This Tab shows the results of any invitations that you have sent to other players, and any Friend Requests that other players have sent to you. Basically this is where you are going to approve the requests that are sent to you and keep track of the requests that you have sent to other players.

(2) Friends

This section has two Tabs in it -- the My Friends Tab and the Add Friends Tab.

The Add Friends Tab is where you go to add Friends from your various social networks and Contact lists. This Tab contains the following selections:

  • Find Friends in Origin (used when you know the Origin Name of the friend)

  • Connect with Facebook (requires you to be logged into your Facebook account)

  • Connect with Google (uses your Gmail Contact List and Address Book)

  • Contacts (uses the Contacts and Address Book on your device)

  • Invite Friends to Origin (Sends invitations via SMS - Text Message -- and Email)

The My Friends Tab -- has several subsections to it, which are:

Friends with Simpsons: Tapped Out (A list of the friends you have who also have the game)

Friends without Simpsons: Tapped Out (A list of your friends who do not have the game)

Pending Friends (Gamers you have sent a Friend Request to but who have not responded yet)

(3) Profile

This Tab contains your Info and Settings and a list of your games. It also has links for the Origin Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and EULA Documents.

Info: This is the basic display of the public information that others can see about your account on Origin. It includes the following information:

  • Your chosen Icon

  • Your Origin Name

  • Last Login date and time

  • Gender

  • Email address

My Games: This is a Utility that shows the icon for your last active game and a launcher for any other EA/Origin titles you own.

Profile Settings -- this Tab contains the following configurable settings:

  • Profile/Privacy Settings

  • Email Address

  • My Image (Icon)

  • Real Name

  • Gender

  • Mobile Phone Number (voluntary)

  • Password / Change Password

  • Facebook Settings

  • News Settings (On/Off for High Scores, Achievements, and Games Played)

Finally the Origin Button at the top of the column returns you to the Neighbor Screen, as does the 'Exit' Button at the base of the column.

That pretty much wraps up the Origin Menu!

I Choo-Choo-Choose You

With the Neighbors and alternate Springfield system now active you will eventually flag the quest “I Choo-Choo-Choose You, which will appear to be a single 1-stage quest (and it actually WAS prior to the Whacking Day Event).

After the Whacking Day Event this quest was expanded into a series of quest that was intended to reward the player for each Neighbor that they add to their Alternate Springfield Community. The naming system for the quests was not chaged or edited however, so they all appear by the same name (the name above), so it will be helpful for you to think of them using the conventional and established naming system.

Bear in mind that unless one of these subquests is flagged, you will NOT receive the credit OR the reward for adding a neighbor, so to milk this for all that it is worth you should refrain from adding Beighbors in large blocks, and you should try to add them only after the quest is re-flagged.

While there is no hard count available for this quest, you can picture it as follows:

  • I Choo-Choo-Choose You Pt. 1 -- Add 1 Neighbor / Reward = 2 Donuts.

  • I Choo-Choo-Choose You Pt. 2 -- Add 2 Neighbor / Reward = 5 Donuts.

  • I Choo-Choo-Choose You Pt. 3 -- Add 3 Neighbor / Reward = 5 Donuts.

  • I Choo-Choo-Choose You Pt. 4 -- Add 4 Neighbor / Reward = 5 Donuts.

  • I Choo-Choo-Choose You Pt. 5 -- Add 5 Neighbor / Reward = 5 Donuts.

And so on, and etc.

Completing the first I Choo-Choo-Choose You quest will result in the reward of 2 Donuts for the Neighbor and $100 and 10 XP for completing the quest and returning to your Springfield.

The Daily Combo and Mystery Box

Around this point in your questing you should trigger your first Daily Combo pop-up -- you need to read the Daily Combo Section to learn all about that, but for now collect the first day reward of $150.

You need to play the game at least once a day to continue to collect each day's reward at the end of which you score a free Mystery Box, which can contain any item from the following list:

  • $500

  • $1000

  • $2500

  • 10 Donuts

  • 30 Donuts

  • Angel Topiary

  • Bench

  • Brown Fence x5

  • Gazebo

  • Homer Buddha

  • Lard Lad Donuts

  • Large Hedge x3

  • Lemon Tree

  • Mystery Box

  • Newspaper Dispenser

  • Parking Lot

  • Picket Fence x3

  • Squeaky Voice Teen

  • Tire Fire

  • Tree

At this point the game forces you to spend 6 Donuts on a Mystery Box -- but the good news is that the prize for it is automatically a pack of 10 Donuts (that does NOT happen every time mind you) so you spent 6 Donuts but got them back plus 4 more! You get an additional 10 XP for completing that.

The Mysterious Brown House Pt. 1 -- Make Homer Break into the Brown House and Watch TV (3m) $6 and 2 XP.

The New Evergreen Terrace Pt. 3

This is a multi-task quest that has you relocating the Kwik-E-Mart across the street in order to make room for the Flanders House, which will be placed next door to the Simpson House (which is as it should be).

(1) Move the Kwik-E-Mart

The forced tutorial will have you pick up the Kwik-E-Mart and show you right where it wants you to move it to.

(2) Build the Flanders House

Once you have relocated the Kwik-E-Mart the game will then show you the Flanders House in the in-game store catalog and prompt you to place it where the store used to be.

Completing the quest rewards you with $100 and 10 XP, and adds the Ned Flanders character to your crew.

The next gap-quest is actually a very significant one in that as you are presently running out of space to expand, adding a new section of open land is really a great idea!

For this quest you are prompted to open the catalog to the Land Expansion Tool and tap it, and then the land that the game means for you to purchase is highlighted. Simple enough really -- you buy that land!

That completes the quest and you are rewarded with $100 and 10 XP.

myPad

Make Homer Play with his myPad (45s) $100 / 10 XP.

There seems to be some confusion with respect to the Easter Egg that is attached to the first encounter with Homer Simpson and his myPad -- specifically the ability to engage this Task and then open Homer's character interface and rapidly tap him x10 to trigger the 10 Donut and Special Statue reward.

To set the record straight this is NOT a cheat -- it is an Easter Egg Bonus that was actually added to the game in connection to one of the video ads for it in which the Easter Egg is featured prominently. On other words this Easter Egg was one of several advertising gimmicks and not an “accident” or a “mistake” in the game code.

To see the original advertisement for which this Easter Egg was created load the URL below:

As you can see this was not exactly a hidden secret... But that's OK the point is you get 10 free Donuts AND you get the Jebediah Springfield Statue which while it used to slightly increase the Money and XP earned from Tasks and Jobs appears to now be just a decoration. But it makes a great centerpiece for your downtown City Park if you are following the basic layout of the TV Show... Just saying.

But back to this quest -- simply have Homer perform the 45s Task and voila! $100 and 10 XP!

Getting Benched

This is yet another gap-quest though it closely relates to other quests we have previously completed (in fact it cannot be flagged until we do). For this one we are acting as Lisa Simpson, and it has multiple segments in order to be completed, requiring you to complete the following tasks:

(1) Place a Bench -- While it does not really matter where you place the Bench since we have recently placed the Statue from Homer's Easter Egg this is an excellent chance to begin populating the Town Park we will want to build -- so assuming you have placed the Statue in an open area near the road and used the Concrete Tool to define the park area around the statue, place the Bench along the edge of that.

The Bench is found in the catalog of the in-game store under the Decorations Menu and costs $270 so you will probably only want to place the one that is required since Money is short at the moment.

(2) Have Lisa Read a Book -- This is Lisa Simpson's short-duration Task (most of The Characters have one that can be completed in under 1 minute). To complete it open Lisa's Task menu and compelte the following Task listed there:

Read a Book (45s) $3 and 1 XP.

Once you complete that you can move on to the third and final segment to the quest.

(3) Place a Tree -- The Tree is found in the in-game store catalog, under Decorations, and costs $100. Again with Money not exactly in huge supply at the moment you will want to only place the one Tree that is required for this quest.

This is a great opportunity to add another element to the Town Park we are Building, so place the tree somewhere in the grass near the Bench we previously placed to offer book readers a bit of shade.

Once you have completed all of the segments you are rewarded with the traditional $100 and 10 XP for your efforts.

Hardly Working

In addition to fulfilling the need for more gap-quests this particular quest also has the effect of unlocking one of the Tasks in Homer's Task Menu that was previously locked and not available due to the lack of the related item it requires -- in this case a children's inflatable pool.

In this instance you are more or less expected to place this item in the Simpson back yard behind or near their house.

The quest item is tutorial flagged and is called a “Kiddie Pool” and it is found in the Decorations Section of the in-game store catalog, and it costs $100.

It should be noted that this is a quest-related one-time item -- that is to say that after you purchase this from the in-game store it is removed from the catalog and can no longer be purchased.

The game only allows you to have a single Kiddle Pool in it, whether that is placed in your town OR in your inventory.

Once you have purchased and placed the item it unlocks the following task in Homer Simpson's Task List:

Lounge in the Pool (6h) $225 and 55 XP.

You then need to have Homer perform the task in order to complete the quest and earn the standard $100 and 10 XP reward.

Quickly at the Kwik-E-Mart

See the Recurring Undefined Quests Section of the Guide for more information about this sort of quest.

This is one of the Recurring Undefined Quests that appear in the game usually mixed in among the gap-quests, but in this case the quest has been slightly altered from its usual form as it has been edited to mix into the tutorial section on the use of the alternate currency Donuts in the game.

For this quest Lisa is tasked to visit the Kwik-E-Mart to do some shopping for the Simpson Home. Ordinarily this would be a 2-hour task but for this one the game uses the standard 1-hour timer for the Shop at Kwik-E-Mart Task.

Because Lisa will not be available for 1-hour in real-time and due to the insecurity that Homer is feeling about life in general, he does not want her spending that much time away from him. He thus encourages Lisa to spend some Donuts to eliminate the timer.

As previously noted, this is part of the Teach-You-How-To-Spend-Donuts phase of the Tutorial, and so you have a choice to make: spend the 2-Donuts to resume Game Play now and make Homer happy, or ignore the request, close the game and let the timer run out, returning after it has so that it is no longer an issue.

While we cannot stress enough just how crucial it is that you NOT spend Donuts, on the other hand this is actually an element of the tutorial phase of the game, so you really will need to decide how you are going to deal with it for yourself.

The entire point to this Guide, in addition to providing guidance and revealing tricks, offering Tips, and helping you to employ working strategies for defeating the real-Money-trade foundation around which the game has been constructed (which results in your obtaining a sustainable level of freedom in the game that will allow you to not have to spend real money on it), is offering you tips to handle situations like this one.

The fact that avoiding spending Donuts is crucial to that process and approach means that we are recommending that you deviate from the script here, even though that means departing from The Story. Just for the record, if you do spend the Donuts the only thing that is changed in your game is that you have 2 less Donuts than you had before. In other words there are no consequences for choosing not to spend those Donuts. We thought you should know that.

The Benefits of Saving Your Donuts

We thought it would be a good idea and a service to you to explain why you need to avoid spending the Donuts here.

While many freemium grinder type games are mercenary about forcing the RMT element in them, Tapped Out is not. It is the exception to the rule, in that you really can fully play the game and not spend Money and still remain competitive with your mates who ARE spending money on the game and ARE making use of the RMT foundation upon which it is built.

The biggest difference between their games and yours is that you are trading time for convenience, whereas they are gaining time as a convenience by spending real-Money.

There are a number of sources for obtaining Donuts outside of the RMT route, and in particular when we discount events like the 10-tapping of Homer Simpson, the most common source of free Donuts comes from the weekly free Mystery Box, which among its Prizes are 10 Donuts and 30 Donuts, as well as the small chance for a Homer Buddha or a Mystery Box.

That's right, you can actually win a Mystery Box from opening the Mystery Box! Think of that as a do-over basically.

If you win a Homer Buddha among the desirable Prizes it contains are a Mystery Box and 30 Donut prize. But you also can win Characters (Hans Moleman, the Squeaky-Voice Teen, Professor Frink by winning his Lab, )

For the record in our games we have actually won via the Mystery Box and then Homer Buddha the following Prizes: Tire Fire (40 Donut Value), Frink's Lab (150 Donut Value), Hans Moleman, Squeaky-Voice Teen, and a number of lesser prizes.

From the Mystery Box we have won the Lard Lad Donuts, and on several occasions the 10 Donut and 30 Donut Prizes.

Winning the Donut Prizes only happened AFTER we had more than $100K in our bank, and it has been suggested (and this seems to be a reliable fact) that having more than $100K in your bank does influence getting the Donut Prize, which means that saving up and retaining that $100K as a minimum balance in your bank is really a good Strategy for maximizing Donut Prizes.

The ultimate goal for the Donuts you save up -- and the entire point behind saving up those Donuts -- is to get a sufficient quantity to purchase and place the following Premium Items in your game:

  • Asia de Cuba (100D)

  • Aztec Theater (80D)

  • Barney's Bowlarama (250D) adds Barney Gumble to your game.

  • Community Center (150D) adds Jasper to your game.

  • Duff Brewery (190D) adds Duff Man to your game.

  • Duff Stadium (90D)

  • Frink's Lab (150D) adds Professor Frink to your game.

  • Kruystylu Studios (140D) adds Sideshow Mel to your game.

  • Lard Lad Donuts (110D)

  • Lugash's Gym (175D) adds Lugash to your game.

  • Open Air Stage (160D)

  • School Bus (120D) adds Otto Mann to your game.

  • Sleep-Eazy Motel (225D) adds Miss Springfield to your game.

  • Sprawl-Mart (90D)

  • Springfield Coliseum (190D) adds Drederick Tatum to your game.

  • Springfield Observatory (75D)

  • Springfield Pet Shop (90D) adds Jub-Jub to your game.

  • Stu's Disco (180D) adds Stu to your game.

  • Try-N-Save (70D)

  • Volcano Lair (200D) adds Hank Scorpio to your game.

Of the above Premium Structures you CAN obtain the following via the weekly Mystery Box (assuming you play the game at least once each day):

Based on our experience the reality is that you WILL be adding some of the above Buildings (via the free Mystery Box and Homer Buddha) if you make proper use of it (play every day and collect a box each week) because whether it is built into the game as a given or not, these Prizes really do happen.

We have three games in progress at different levels of play in order to make and support this Guide and we HAVE received these Prizes as indicated previously! What that suggests is that while there are Premium structures you will want to spend your Donuts on, you will want to place the ones you can eventually get for free at the bottom of the priority list as a result.

Put Up a Parking Lot

This is another gap-quest and it relates to the Kwik-E-Mart that we initially built and then moved as part of the tutorial quest lines. For this gap-quest we need to purchase and place two (2) Parking Lot Decorations near the Kwik-E-Mart.

The Parking Lot is found in the Decorations Menu of the in-game Store Catalog, and costs $175. This item was unlocked at Level 5, and is available only after flagging THIS quest.

In addition to providing the logically necessary parking spaces for a retail convenience store, it also adds to the Vanity rating on your Conform-O-Meter, and much later in the game, when you unlock the decoration item “Gas Pumps” will probably need to be moved (along with the Kwik-E-Mart in order to make room for those.

With that in mind you may want to ensure that there is adequate space for this later by leaving a gap roughly the depth of two of the Parking Lots behind the store and surrounding Buildings to make adjustments easier when the time comes.

Pave Paradise

This next quest relates to the same sub-quest chain we have been adjusting -- the Kwik-E-Mart -- and has you placing two (2) Concrete Pavements.

The Pavement item is found in the Decorations Section of the in-game Store Catalog, and is a FREE item that is right at the start of that section in the Catalog.

Due to the way that some of the Buildings are drawn the grass-sections that are included with them are situated so that, when they are placed on concrete Pavement sections they naturally lend the appearance of sidewalks instead of concrete Pavement -- which is a visual element you can make very nice esthetic use of later.

This most effective use of this item now is to place four of them -- under the Kwik-E-Mart and under the two Parking Lot Decorations you have already placed, which will provide a measure of consistency to the store and its layout.

Placing the two Pavement sections completes this quest, and you are thus rewarded with $100 and 10 XP.

Slack-Jawed Yokel Pt. 1

This is actually a very important sub-quest among the gap-quests because it has you placing the Farm that Cletus and his family live on -- and more important that, it has you placing a Building that has its OWN set of Tasks (meaning Task Menu) in the form of Crops that you can select and grow for both Profit and XP!

To complete this gap-quest you need to open the in-game Store Catalog and then open the Structures Section, and select the “Cletus's Farm” from the menu.

This is a special (and rather unique) Building and it costs $1,200 to buy and place. It has a 1h build time (which is uncharacteristically short considering the value that it contributes to your game). Every 8h it generates $275 and 75 XP as its collectible tax.

Once you place the Farm and the timer runs out, and it is built, you complete this gap-quest and are rewarded with $100 and 10 XP.

The following Tasks are available in the Farm's Task Menu:

  • Weeds (45s) $0 and 0 XP

  • Perfection (45s) $10 and 2 XP

  • Tomacco (1h) $75 and 20 XP

  • Silvertongue (8h) $275 and 75 XP

  • Triffids (12h) $0 and 0 XP + The End of Humanity

  • Moonshine (1d) $600 and 150 XP

  • Corn. Actual Corn (90d) $45,000 and 9,000 XP

Additional Information

It may interest you to know -- particularly if you are not a fan of the TV Show -- that the Farm is both the source of Income and employment for Cletus as well as the residence of the Spuckler Family -- which consists of Cletus, his wife Brandine, and their 12 children (though at last count it appears that they have more than 12 children).

In the show the Farm is located along the edge of the forest near the Springfield Sign in the hilly section between Springfield and the nearby town of Shelbyville.

In addition to being a farm in the strictest agricultural sense of that word, it is also the location where Cletus brews his Moonshine Whiskey, which is sold in its basic (clear) form to anyone who pops in seeking some (including Homer in an episode).

It is implied (but never actually stated) that it is also sold as counterfeit top-shelf whiskey in the bars and restaurants of the nearby towns, being colored with chewing tobacco that is created from one of the crops grown on the Farm -- Tomacco -- and Fat Tony may have something to do with this...

Crop Share

See the Recurring Undefined Quests Section of the Guide for more information about this sort of quest.

During the long process of completing the gap-quests a new type of quest may or may not appear in your list and be flagged. Some players indicate that they have had it flagged while others indicate that they have not. We had it flag in one of the games (iPhone) we used in creating this Guide but not on the other (iPad).

Crop Share (6h) $50 and 5XP

Completing this task results in the reward listed above and NOT the regular quest reward.+

Slack-Jawed Yokel Pt. 2

Note that this is the first quest using the Farm and the Task List that is part of it, and it is a two-part gap-quest that requires you to both grow the designated crop AND to harvest it.

We mention that because the crops on the Farm “expire” or rot in the field if they are not harvested within a specific time-period.

The New Evergreen Terrace Pt. 4

The next quest in The Story-line is a basic one, only requiring that the Purple House be built.

The Purple House is found in the Structures Section of the in-game Store Catalog. It costs $1,100 and requires Level 6. It is not available until this quest is flagged. It is also the last structure that is placed for the current section of the Guide.

Wrapping up The Forced Tutorial, Part II: Levels 4 to 6

This nicely concludes this section of the Guide and, assuming you followed the guide and completed the various quests as well as made an effort to begin the process of expanding your neighbor and mates list for the Other Springfields you are now sitting in a very nice position.

It is time now to head to the next section of the Guide and begin wrapping up the free-form part of the guide that covers the Tutorial Phase.

Once the Tutorial Phase is complete the Guide will move to the standard three-chapter arc to cover each significant part of the game as it relates to The Story being told, which is a more convenient structure for both writing and organizing the guide and for the players who are using it.
