Introduction

The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic America. Infected humans, similar to zombies, have been there for 20 years. Joel is tasked to travel with Ellie, a teenage girl, through this dangerous world to bring her to the Fireflies, a group of people trying to save the world. Ellie could in fact be the key to finding a cure. Ellie was born after the infection started and she has never known anything other than this chaos. She is curious, funny and optimistic opposed to Joel a pessimistic fighter missing the life he had prior to the infection.

The story is amazing. It’s hard to stop playing because you always want to know what will happen in the next cutscene. You get attached to both characters and they are in my opinion among the best in gaming. The story will surprise you more than once.

Graphics

Graphics are amazing, details are great even though the environment is pretty big. The cutscenes in The Last of Us are among the best in PS3 games and facial expressions are part of it.

The Infected are disgusting and scary, they look exactly how they should.

Sound

Sound is very important in that game and it is well done. The Infected make all kind of disgusting sounds and you can locate them easily with that. The sounds are the right level for the distance you are from them.
The voice acting is amazing. You can feel the emotion, the pain and the love. The connection between Joel and Ellie feels real.
Everything is good about the dialogues, it’s interesting and filled with emotions.
The Last of Us isn’t just a game, it’s a movie too.

Gameplay

This is a game from a third-person perspective.
The Last of Us is very challenging. You will die a lot. You have to save your bullets because you can run out easily. You have to find strategies and places to hide because there are a lot of bad guys and they are looking for you.
You also have to collect things in order to create weapons.
The control is great, no glitches everything is smooth. The camera is great too. Also, the way they put things to block the access to certain area is well done, the player do not feel like he just hit the limit of the game, it just feels like you can’t go there because there is a bus or something in the way.
Between action parts, there are moments where you simply walk with Ellie and it helps relaxing after the stress of fighting.
The AI is also great since it is hard to escape from enemies.
The game allows you to use the “Listen Mode” which is used to see the position of enemies through walls, this is really helpful.

Lastability

The game is long but and I didn’t want it to end. The setting is always different and you fight different kind of enemies: humans and Infected. There are even different kind of Infected. Some are pretty easy to kill and some are very hard.
I could say that there is no point of playing the single player story twice, but I won’t. I definitely think people will want to play it again at a hardest difficulty level.

Overall

Overall, The Last of Us is more than amazing. I can’t see how someone could not like that game. Both the gameplay and the story are fantastic and I recommend it to absolutely everyone except children since it can be scary. If you have a PS3 or a PS4, you have to buy The Last of Us, it’s a must-have in your collection.
