I have only played one other Elder Scroll game and it was very good so I picked this one up and could not stop playing it. It is truly a good open ended RPG like none other and all future RPGs will be compared to Oblivion. It is one of the best games that I have played.
Simply amazing detail on the environment. The sky looks almost real, the waterfalls look very good. The grass and bushes could use some work but it's not that bad. The seas look very convincing although they are not as good as the mountains, sky and waterfall parts.
The music got mundane after a while but never to the point where I played with no sound. The character voices are repetitive but the newest expansion, that releases in April, promises more character voices. Overall, the sound is better than most games that I've played.
The gameplay is amazing. The battle system gives you multiple options of fighting, whether with magic, sword, axe, or bow. I enjoyed just roaming around Cyrodill exploring caves and finding armor that I couldn't find in the towns. Of course the guilds offer much fun too.
This game has so many quests that I didn't know where to start. I have spent over ninety hours of gameplay on this game. I find this quote to be true "Hours become days, days become weeks, weeks become months". I have literally played this game and none other for almost three months. Even if you do play all the retail release has to offer, there are many expansions.
It lacks in the sound area but makes up for it everywhere else. It is truly the best RPG I've ever played. It gives players the sense that they are in control and they an do whatever they want. Whether you be a noble warrior or cunning assassin or a mage or a combination, you are in control.
