Introduction

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the follow-up to Nintendo's hit Super Mario Galaxy. Following the same style of play as it's prequel, the story follows our red plumber hero as he saves his special one, Princess Peach, from the evil clutches of the Koopa King, Bowser, and his son, Bowser Jr. The game introduces many new aspects, including the addition of Yoshi and Shadow Marios. This game is a sure hit for classic gamers.

Graphics

Nintendo runs on a 480p graphics system, now widely received as the lower quality in graphics compared to the 1080i HD graphics system featured on Microsoft's Xbox360 and Sony's PS3. With that in mind, Nintendo usually run at a huge disadvantage with graphic-favoring fans but in SMG2 that flaw was barely noticeable. Nintendo, like with most of their self-produced games, pushed the 48p to the limit making the difference between 1080i carelessly unnoticeable. Then again, I'm a gamer who isn't highly influenced by graphics

Sound

The sound was quite enjoyable I must say. Super Mario Galaxy 2 brought back some classic sounds from Super Mario 64. Boss Music was great as always. Nintendo hit the mark in this category, matching music with the background and situation of levels and worlds. Sound effects from the range of a Koopa being hit to Mario's 'Game Over' wail were all on cue.

Gameplay

Galaxy 2's difficulty level was slightly easier compared to the more difficult prequel Nintendo had offered. This makes it easier for the younger players, but can seem like a bore to the more-experienced veterans until the latter levels of the game.
The introduction of our favorite little green friend Yoshi certainly increased appeal for the game and his addition was worthwhile! With new power-ups like the Blimp, Bulb, and Spicy Fruits, Yoshi becomes a fun and vital asset in completing the story.
Another gameplay change was the addition of Luigi being allowed to take over for Mario in levels here and there (In the first game you had to unlock all stars with Mario to be able to play Story Mode with Luigi).

Lastability

With various Prankster Comets, Hidden Stars in Worlds, and various challenges from different characters, the game isn't the most easiest to complete. You can always try to beat a Time Score set in a Fluzzard Flight Race or finish better than you did previously in one of The Chimp's challenges. The fun never ends in the world of Mario.

Overall

This game has received many positive reviews and I must say they are well deserved. Super Mario Galaxy 2 outdid it's shaky, but well-acclaimed, predecessor. The game was concrete and the ideas Nintendo introduced in this game were clear and critical. A total fanpleaser that meets up raises the bar that Super Mario Galaxy set.

Final Score: 90%
