Star Ocean, as a series, has a very solid Item Creation system among RPG games, ranging from randomized creations to pre-determined creation results. In previous installments of the series, character talents affect these creations but in SO5, Crafting items became a lot more easier. Take note that most of the most potent consumable items and some of the most powerful equipment can only be acquired from item creation.
To craft new items, select Item Creation from the Creation section of the main menu, then choose Materials from your inventory that match a recipe you have learned. The types of creation you can perform, such as Compounding, increase either as your characters level up or as you learn related specialties. Remember, you cannot create an item if you do not possess the required materials for it. On the other hand, you will never fail to create an item. Thus, you can always obtain the item you desire as long as you have the requisite materials.
Factors are effects that can influence normal attacks, special art, signeturgy, item, roles, and more in different ways depending on their type. You should also take note of the factors whenever you're buying, creating, or augmenting items.
Selecting multiple items in your inventory and combining them to create different ones is called Synthesis. Although it is a convenient specialty to have, it does have a downside; you will never know exactly what the resulting item will be until it has actually been made. That said, it’s recommended to save your game first before doing high-quality synthesis attempts.
You can perform Synthesis from the Synthesis screen found in the Creation section of the main menu. You will not be able to use many Materials at first, but you will eventually be able to combine up six at once. The items resulting from synthesis will differ depending on the number and type of material items used.
Different Item combination will occasionally produce either stronger or weaker version of the same pieces of equipment. Thus, if you want to Synthesis particularly effective pieces of equipment, it is in your best interest to find the optimal combination for each one.
Check out this guide’s Synthesis section for a detailed Overview about this risky but wonderful option of the game’s Item Creation system.
This type of creation combines items with pieces of equipment, thereby increasing the equipment's attributes or adding factors to it. By leveling up certain specialties, you can increase the number of times that pieces of equipment can be augmented.
To perform Augmentation, enter the Equipment Augmentation menu under the Creation Section of the main menu, choose the piece of equipment and the items to modify it, and then begin the augmentation. Although certain items may not changes or add any attributes, you can always view what effects they will have upon a piece of equipment before augmenting it.
If not all the factors associated with Augmentation item can be added, due to them exceeding the factor limit on a base piece of equipment, the most effective factors will be prioritized. You may also use a specific item to delete the factors you no longer need, but doing so counts as an augmentation for each one. Certain factors occasionally change depending on the piece of equipment they are to augment. Once you have learned an equipment augmentation specialty other than ornamentation, feel free to try varied combination and see for yourself.
