Take a look at the cheats and tips below to get help in Sons of the Forest.
Make sure you make a point of saving the game often, especially when you find key items or have just unlocked a new area. There is only one way in which you can save the game, and it requires having a tent or a bed. You will find abandoned tents scattered around the forest and if necessary one can be built using a tarp and a stick. Beds are created using a blueprint from the survivor's handbook. In order to save you simply have to approach a tent or bed and hold the 'E' key down on your keyboard.
In order to advance the storyline and explore certain areas of the island such as the underground you will first have to obtain certain items. Make sure you strive to locate them as soon as possible as the longer you are on the island the more dangerous it becomes as mutants and cannibals will start spawning. The items in question include the rebreather, the shovel, the rope gun, and the can opener. Grabbing all these items early on will help minimize the danger while exploring the island. It will also unlock useful items that make surviving much easier. Most of the items you need are marked on the map, simply hit every point of interest to find them.
Early during your playthrough you need to think about building a home base, so you have somewhere to return after exploring the island. Make sure that the location you choose has fresh water as having a river or lake nearby will enable you to easily fill your thirst meter. It will also help you to get food as freshwater typically has fish. It is important that you protect your home base, this means setting up things like defensive walls, traps, and lookout towers. Don't forget to scout the area before you start building to be certain there are no cannibal camps nearby.
Once you have built your base you will want to store food, water, crafting materials, and ammo stock there. You will be able to find all these items by searching the island, they can be picked up from containers, abandoned camps, and dead bodies found in the forest. The best place to go to get these supplies is the helicopter site. Items that spawn sparingly include meal packs, meds, and ammo so keep an eye out for them. Camps, caves, and underground facilities hidden on the island will give you plenty of resources but you need to keep in mind you will more than likely have to deal with mutant cannibals there. Make a note where containers and camps are because they all reset and can be looted again after a few in-game days pass.
Kelvin is a fellow rescue team member sent to the island to find the missing Puffton family that has gone missing. Even though the helicopter crash has left Kelvin deaf and slightly brain damaged he is still an irreplaceable asset that you need to keep alive. If you are nice to Kelvin you can get him to fish, collect sticks and rocks, and cut down trees and building structures. In order for Kelvin to continue the tasks you give him you must be nice to him and make sure he has breaks. If Kelvin feels abused or overworked he will stop working on what you have asked him to do. If Kelvin dies you will not be able to replace him. The only way you will be able to get another Kelvin is to start a new playthrough.
The second NPC that you will be given an opportunity to work with in Sons of the Forest is Virginia, the ballet loving adult daughter of multi-billionaire Edward Puffton. Virginia is a slender, Caucasian woman with fair skin and blonde hair tied behind her head. She has dark eyes and a permanent scowl. Her most prominent characteristics are her three arms and three legs. Unlike Kelvin her loyalty is not initially guaranteed, and the relationship is strictly on her terms. Virginia will keep her distance to begin with but once she realizes you are nonthreatening and trusts you she can get her to hunt for you and fight cannibals. Unlike Kelvin, she can hold and use guns. In order to keep her happy you simply have to be nice to her and try and find her clothing that will keep her warm during winter.
Sons Of The Forest has four seasons and they each last between 4–6 days. The most challenging of these seasons is winter due to the harsh weather conditions, so it is essential that you prepare for it beforehand, which means finding ways in which to stay warm. This is important because your stamina is harder to maintain during winter as the cold and wet weather drains it faster. The different ways in which you can stay warm are to sit near a fire, craft a torch using a stick, a cloth, and the lighter from the emergency pack, or find the winter jacket on the snowy mountain.
If your character dies in Sons of the Forest the game will give you a chance to continue. In order to take advantage of this opportunity and advance in the game you will need to cut yourself loose from wherever you spawned tied up and pickup your backpack which you will be able to find nearby. If however you are killed a second time in the same playthrough your character will die, and you will have no option but to restart or load back to your last save point.
