How do I get out of Tourian?

I entered Tourian, made it to the boss room and went back and saved. Now I want to go back out of Tourian, but there's a grey door I can't light up to get through. I tried beating the game, but after beating Mother Brain, you can't save and it doesn't get you out of Tourian. My question is how do I leave Tourian? I want to go collect the rest of the expansions!

You can't you have to save anywhere BUT after the big Metroid room. Or else your stuck there. ):

yeah i am stuck there as well and have been for like a year,so i gave up on the game after that, i am soooo mad that i spent hours playing that game, then i get stuck and cant even play anything but the last boss (mother brain).

I know how to do it. First, go to the room before Mother Brain. Activate your Spazer, and then highlight a boot upgrade, and press Left and A at the same time. If done right, the Plasma Beam should be on, with the letters VAR next to it. Next, turn off the Wave Beam. If you don't, the game will crash when you fire. Go to the top door. Go right up against the door, and fire. Next, jump and fire the beam while holding left. The game should slow down to a crawl, and you should get through the door. You'll know immediately if you did it right, because the game will stop lagging and the thing you have to kill will be on the door. Kill it, and go back to the save point and save. Hit Reset, and go back into the save file. The opening cutscene should play, and you will be in Ceres Station with all your upgrades except your missiles. All doors on Zebes will have returned to their original states, and bosses will have respawned. But you can kill all these guys easily, so it's worth it.
