Dynasty Warriors Vol 2 (PSP) Character, Officer and Combination List Version 1.11 (9 April 2010) By Firzen, Torch Bearer Version history v1.00 22 December 2009 Finishes the guide, combination at 97%, and lots of missing information in the skill section. v1.01 15 January 2010 Added the credits part (I remember that I owe the 2 FAQs in GameFAQs). Also added few information about character move changes and stage completion. v1.11 9 April 2010 Gained a lot of infos about abilities and combinations from my very first reader who send me an email containing required infos, Dong Zhe. Added Hints and Tips, rewrite some parts of this faq. No future update planned, unless missing information about ability and combinations are aquired, or if this FAQ is accepted in more site. ----------------------------- Contents ----------------------------- 1. For Officers, type the level, e.g level 14, then search) ----------------------------- 1. Introduction and Copyright ----------------------------- If ever my school stop granting me more and more tasks, the latest update would have been applied a month earlier. This is my very first FAQ and contribution I made. I apologize for anything wrong or unclear in here (I have a pretty bad English writing mark in my school), but I have done my best. Recently I prepared some data to make my next 3 FAQs, so this is might as well be the last time I open and edit this file, but who knows? I don't remember exactly when, but around 2007, my parents bought a PSP (surprisingly, without me asking them). It has several games in it, one of them being this game, the first Dynasty Warrior series game I have. I was so interested that in two years time, my sister and I end up buying the complete Three Kingdoms novel, DW5 for PS2 with its variants, DW4, DW6 for PS2 (it's available) and finally, Dynasty warriors Strikeforce. Now with lots of new game, it's time for me to save this game in my computer and delete it from my PSP. But before that happens, there's one thing that I wish to do. For many years the DW vol.2 in PSP doesn't have an FAQ which list the whole officers in game, at least in GameFAQs. Therefore, I decided to make one to fill the space before retiring. In addition of officers, I also add more stuff to make a 'nice' FAQ. This FAQ is copyright 2009-2010 FirzenTheTorchB (check my profile for real name). You may use this FAQ for private use, like viewing with friends for smoother gameplay, as long as credit is given to the right place. No stealing (why on earth someone would pick an FAQ for old game, anyway?). Inform me via e-mail if you want to post this in your website so I can give you permission to do so. I'm not too restrictive in giving permission. In fact, the more people read an FAQ, the more useful that FAQ is, am I correct? ----------------------------- 2. Characters ----------------------------- You'll choose the character you want to use before playing in any mode. There is a total of 48 characters but you'll only be able to use 18 at first, 6 characters from each force, excluding Other, like the original DW5. This is how to use this part: Character's name Command: the higher the command points, the more officer they can deploy Life : the length of the character's life bar Musou : the length of the character's musou bar Attack : the higher the attack points, the more damage dealt in each blow Defense: the higher the defense points, the less damage taken by attacks Growth : the higher the growth points, the faster the character level up Basic weapon power: the strength of their first weapon. Sure you will found a better one in the game but at least this could help you to predict how good they will be. If available, character move differences compared to the original DW5 game is noted here. Note: The command points here is the one that you have at the first time. To find how to unlock a character, check shinobipride's guide in GameFAQs, I used it to list this. --------- 2.1 Shu --------- The Shu Forces is the green colored one. Generally the characters here has a very low life points, but very high growth points. They also have a good command points, with 4 caharacters having 32 command points at start and none has 24 starting command points. Mostly, they have long attack range (8 from 13 of them carry polearm type weapon) while having low attack damage, except for Zhang Fei, Guan Yu and Ma Chao. Zhao Yun Command: 26 Life : 260 Musou : 165 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 94 Basic weapon power: 4 Guan Yu Command: 32 Life : 268 Musou : 140 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 93 Basic weapon power: 7 C1 (pressing Charge button) have built in fire element. Zhang Fei Command: 25 Life : 271 Musou : 135 Attack : 35(!) The opposite of Shu, they have very high life points, but very low growth points. They also have low command points, with only 2 characters have 32 command points, and both of them are not unlocked at start. They generally have high attack damage, except Sima Yi and Zhen Ji, and low attack speed. Xiahou Dun Command: 26 Life : 348 Musou : 155 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 83 Basic weapon power: 5 Dian Wei Command: 25 Life : 335 Musou : 140 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 85 Basic weapon power: 7 Xu Zhu Command: 25 Life : 367 Musou : 120 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 81 Basic weapon power: 7 Cao Cao Command: 32 Life : 340 Musou : 160 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 84 Basic weapon power: 4 Xiahou Yuan Command: 26 Life : 332 Musou : 145 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 85 Basic weapon power: 5 Zhang Liao Command: 26 Life : 356 Musou : 150 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 82 Basic weapon power: 5 Sima Yi Command: 32 Life : 228 Musou : 165 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 98 Basic weapon power: 2 Xu Huang Command: 26 Life : 332 Musou : 145 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 85 Basic weapon power: 5 Jump Charge (Charge button after jumping) is greatly slowed down and thus, becomes very unreliable. Zhang He Command: 26 Life : 356 Musou : 165 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 82 Basic weapon power: 5 Zhen Ji Command: 24 Life : 250 Musou : 165 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 96 Basic weapon power: 2 Cao Ren Command: 26 Life : 332 Musou : 135 Attack : 32 Defense: 23 (whoa) Growth : 85 Basic weapon power: 5 Cao Pi Command: 30 Life : 340 Musou : 170 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 84 Basic weapon power: 4 Pang De Command: 26 Life : 332 Musou : 120 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 85 Basic weapon power: 5 --------- 2.3 Wu --------- The red colored one. The characters here are probably the most well-balanced. However, some of the characters are obviously worse than the other (and KOEI put them right next to each other te make them even more obvious). At least it's not a very serious problem. Unlike the other 2 forces, Wu have 14 characters instead of 13. When attacking, they're pretty fast (no one is averagely slow), but their attack range is short, only 1 character that carries a polearm, and that isn't very long compared to the other polearms either. Zhou Yu Command: 26 Life : 236 Musou : 155 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 97 Basic weapon power: 4 Lu Xun Command: 26 Life : 236 Musou : 165 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 97 Basic weapon power: 4 Taishi Ci Command: 26 Life : 292 Musou : 135 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 90 Basic weapon power: 7 C4 (press normal attack thrice then Charge) launch double projectile energy instead of just twin rod push. Sun Shang Xiang Command: 24 Life : 242 Musou : 165 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 97 Basic weapon power: 2 Sun Jian Command: 32 Life : 284 Musou : 150 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 91 Basic weapon power: 5 Sun Quan Command: 32 Life : 284 Musou : 155 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 91 Basic weapon power: 4 Lu Meng Command: 30 Life : 212 Musou : 150 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 100 Basic weapon power: 5 Gan Ning Command: 25 Life : 303 Musou : 145 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 89 Basic weapon power: 7 Huang Gai Command: 26 Life : 308 Musou : 140 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 88 Basic weapon power: 5 Sun Ce Command: 32 Life : 276 Musou : 145 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 92 Basic weapon power: 5 Da Qiao Command: 24 Life : 226 Musou : 160 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 99 Basic weapon power: 2 Xiao Qiao Command: 24 Life : 226 Musou : 165 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 99 Basic weapon power: 2 Zhou Tai Command: 26 Life : 300 Musou : 140 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 89 Basic weapon power: 5 Ling Tong Command: 25 Life : 287 Musou : 155 Attack : 34 Defense: 20 Growth : 91 Basic weapon power: 5 --------- 2.4 Other --------- Other is basically the other kingdoms that is not any of the 3 kingdoms. They have 8 characters from around 5 different forces. Therefore, there is no pattern in the characters. Some of them are a abnormally strong characters. Note : Other characters doesn't have a musou mode. They only have seperated stages playable in free mode. Diao Chan Command: 24 Life : 234 Musou : 170 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 98 Basic weapon power: 2 Lu Bu Command: 25 Life : 375 Musou : 135 Attack : 36 (Zhang Fei Defense: 23 + Cao Ren?) Growth : 80 Basic weapon power: 8 Dong Zhuo Command: 32 Life : 356 Musou : 130 Attack : 33 Defense: 21 Growth : 82 Basic weapon power: 5 Yuan Shao Command: 32 Life : 348 Musou : 155 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 83 Basic weapon power: 4 Zhang Jiao Command: 32 Life : 228 Musou : 160 Attack : 32 Defense: 20 Growth : 98 Basic weapon power: 2 Meng Huo Command: 30 Life : 356 Musou : 120 Attack : 34 Defense: 22 Growth : 82 Basic weapon power: 5 Zhu Rong Command: 26 Life : 244 Musou : 145 Attack : 32 Defense: 21 Growth : 96 Basic weapon power: 4 Zuo Ci Command: 25 Life : 375 Musou : 180 Attack : 40 (highest in the game) Defense: 19 (lowest in the game) Growth : 80 Basic weapon power: 8 ----------------------------- 3. Officers ----------------------------- This is a complete list of the 300 officers with their stats when they reach their max rank (rank 10). You can deploy up to 4 officers in one stage, and their total level must not exceed your command points. So with 24 command you can either use Lu Bu as your officer or 4 level 6 officers, etc. As you use them, they'll receive exp to rank up permanently. Each rank ups require 100 exp. You'll also gain some exp to distribute among your officers freely in the end of the stage. Using an officer will grant you bonus stats for the stage as well as access to their skills. As they rank up, the bonus stats will increase, and they might unlock new skills. Remember that their own stats will never increase. If you gain an officer more than once, then you can trade them among other players. To unlock new officers, there are about 5 ways: 1. For low class officers (level 16 and below), you can simply play a stage and they'll be given at the at the end of the stage. I think it's random because you can get officers which is not even seen in that stage. 2. For more direct result, use Promotion ability. But only for low class. 3. High class character officers are harder to acquire. You can complete a stage 100% and successfully obtain them, but it is still random and you might even get the lower class intead. Clearing a force whole stages gives you bigger rewards, say, 2 high class officers. It will be even bigger if you finally 100%'ing all the game stages. I personally acquire all officers that I don't have already, plus a few lower ones. 4. Each character officers also has their own unique way to obtain, which you can check in Unlock Tips in Camp -> Officers (for Other character officers, use order By name to view them). If you're successful in doing one of those, a message will tell something like "(Name) has hardened his officer's resolve". Unfortunately, most of the hint in Unlock tips are pretty absurd and I have done only 4 or 5 of them. 5.Lastly, for Tresure Trove officers, you must quickly defeat him or her after entring their Treasure Trove. A message like above will apear upon success. For the locations and details, check cosmos89's FAQ in GameFAQs. Now these are things that affect stage completeness: - Stage objectives. If there are two ways to complete a stage, both must be done for the 100% completion. - Treasure trove must be taken and seized. You don't have to successfully captured the gurading officer itself (but certainly doing so will be better if you haven't unlock him/her). But remember you have only one chance to assault it and the time is not infinite. - Available village must be liberated. The mission is random I found, but it is defined when the stage is started. So saving, entering the village, then load the interim save (press L + R + start + select to return to main menu) will not change the mission. Restarting the stage will. You don't have to do all of these requirements in one go. Just do them once anytime, clear the stage and it will be one step closer to 100% (make sure you save). The percentage is defined by the number of requirements. For example, if you complete a stage which has 2 objectives, 2 troves and 1 village by doing one of the objectives (of course), seize 1 trove and the village, the completion will be 60%. Later finishing the other objectives and seizing the other trove will complete the stage 100%. Battle of Tong Gate with only 1 objectives and no troves nor village will be 100%'ed once you clear it. I will explain how to use this list below. Officer's name Life : their own life stats +the bonus live stats you'll receive Musou : their own musou stats +the bonus musou stats you'll receive Attack : their own attack stats +the bonus attack stats you'll receive Defense: their own defense stats +the bonus defense stats you'll receive Growth : their own growth stats +the bonus growth stats you'll receive OSR: how good is their own stats is with 1 star is the worst and 8 stars is the best Note: -OSR does not include the bonus stats. It only shows their own overall stats rating. Having low stars doesn't mean they're bad. Maybe they have good bonus stats or skills to compensate it. If you're confused with this, ignore it completely. It's not important at all. -I'll tell the the skills from each officer in the next section. To find it quickly, press Ctrl+f, type the officer's name in the search bar and then search to the lower part of this FAQ. -I'll also write some additional notes if that officer has the same name with another one. -If the officer is routed in a battle, you lose all the bonus stats he or she gives, and his or her skills will be unuseable until you revive them. Their ability's cooldown will also stop. -Suddenly I remember that my cousin had the Dynasty Warriors vol.1. Considering that the officer system are quite different, I write whatever differences I can remeber here: + Your officer stock will not be reduced if you lost. Here their only purpose is for trading with other players. + Here a single officer can affect more than one player's status. + No detrimental modifier, but there are detrimental skills. --------- Level 24 --------- Lu Bu Life : SS +191 Musou : SS +96 Attack : S +182 Defense: SS +96 Growth : B +67 OSR: ******** Best attack bonus. Officer's Skills ----------------------------- This is the skills that an officer may have. Each officer has 1 type of troops and at most 3 skills. I classified the skills into 2 groups, ability and support, which will described later. ------------------ 4.1 Troops, Symbol: Um... an upside-down T ------------------ Well, troops aren't really skills, but I have nowhere else to write it so I put it here. Each officer always have 1 type of troop from their first rank. It will never be changed even after they have been "ranked up". Regular Troop ------------- The weakest melee private in the game. Usually they can't block attacks, only hit once every time they attack and are very weak. They often make group attacks, either dashing forward or jumping attack with their squad. Owner: Pang De, Lu Meng, Masamune Date, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Guan Ping, Mitsuhide Akechi, Xu Huang, Ma Chao, Oichi, Hua Xiong, Sha Moke, Yuan Xi, Wen Chou, Yuan Shang, Jia Xu, Zhang Bao 1, Xun Yu, Zhuge Jin, Ahui Nan, Han Sui, Jia Kui, Jian Yong, Xiahou Shang, Huang Zu, Zhang Xiu, Man Chong, Meng Da, Wen Pin, Kuai Liang, Gao Ding, Yang Yi, Chen Shi, Gao Gan, Hu Zhen, Liu Xun 1, Zhu Jun, Hu Che Er, Liu Feng, Wang Lang. Elite Troop ----------- A better version of melee private. They are the one that wear helmets, and usually carry pikes. They still can't block attacks nor attacking twice. They have much better stats, though. They still do group ttacks, but only the jumping one. Owner: Keiji Maeda, Ying Bu, Zhong Li Mei, Zhang Liao, Zhou Yu, Zhou Tai, Zhu Rong, Genghis Khan, Yukimura Sanada, Guan Sheng, Yuan Shu, Guo Jia, Zhang Song, Cheng Pu, Deng Ai, Fa Zheng, Guan Xing, Guo Tu, Chen Gong, Gao Sheng, Shen Pei, Wang Ping, Wang Shuang, Lu Kai, Ma Tie, Pan Zhang, Gong Zhi, Bo Zhang, Hu Ban, Yang Qiu, Song Xian, Tao Qian. Guard ----- The strongest melee private in the game. They are the privates that have moustache. Sometimes you'll see one of them leading the regular or elite troops. They can block attacks, have a 4-hit combo and are powerful. They can even do both of the group attacks, although very rarely. Owner: Lu Bu, Tadakatsu Honda, Cao Cao, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Liu Bei, Sun Quan, Yuan Shao, Cao Pi, Cao Ren, Dong Zhuo, Meng Huo, Sun Jian, Huyuan Zhuo, Ieyasu Tokugawa, Liu Bang, Mitsunari Ishida, Nobunaga Oda, Xiahou Dun, Xu Zhu, Yoshihiro Shimazu, Dian Wei, Shingen Takeda, Xiang Yu, Ji Ling, Jiang Qin, Xiahou Ba, Guan Suo, Xu Shu, Yuan Tan, Xu Sheng, Zhou Cang, Cao Hong, Dailai Dongzhu, Jinhuan Sanjie, Cao Zhi, Feng Ji, Liao Hua, Niu Jin, Yan Yan, Xiahou En, Zhang Cheng, Chen Lan, Zhu Zhi, Cao Zhen, Gu Li. Mercenary --------- Haven't seen them in the entire game. Maybe they look the same with the other privates. Owner: Lu Zhishen, Musashi Miyamoto, Sakon Shima, Sima Yi, Hanzo Hatori, Hua Tuo, Lin Chong, Zhu Wu, Kotaro Fuma, Zhu Huan, Zhang Liang 1, Li Ru, Wu Lan, Zang Ba, Zhang Yi 2, Gao Lan, Ling Cao, Ta Dun, Xin Pi, Cheng Yuanzhi, Cai Mao, Lei Bo, Mi Zhu, Zhang Ji, Xu Rong, Dong Min, Liang Xu, Ma Zhong, Xing Daorong, Gongsun Yue, Liu Zhang, Shi Xie, Yin Shang, Deng Mao, Guan Hai, Lu Kuang, Mi Fang. Armor Troop ----------- They're like any othe melee private, except they better armor. Therefore, they have much better defense compared to the other privates. Owner: Wu Tugu, King Duosi. Horsemen -------- Message from Dong Zhe: "actually it means "no troop at all". In JPN/CHN version, this is named "Danqi" which means "single cavalery". You can consider it as "Tiger himself" Understood. Owner: Tiger. Archer Group ------------ Ranged privates. The carry bows to attack from long range. Very annoying in large numbers. Fortunately, there are only 3 in each group. They also stand in a place when aiming, so you can attack them freely. If you approach them they might run away, and they're pretty fast. Usually I found my officer chasing these guys around for several minutes. Owner: Zhang Liang 2, Hua Rong, Xiahou Yuan, Guan Yu, Huang Zhong, Ina, Gao Shun, Cheng Yu, Li Yan, Yan Liang, Zhang Ren, Gao Xiang, Cao Xiu, Ding Feng, Han Dang, Hua Xin, Wang Zhi, Yan Baihu, Shi Di. Archer Squad ------------ I still haven't discovered the difference between this and the Archer Group. Since more low level officers have this, I thought this is a little worse version of the Archer Group. Owner: Yu Ji, Taishi Ci, Wei Yan, Jiang Wei, Lu Xun, Nagamasa Azai, Sun Shang Xiang, Zhang He, Kenshin Uesugi, Qiong Ying, Sun Ce, Xiao He, Gan Ning, Ling Tong, Gongsun Zan, Ma Liang, Ma Teng, Yue Jin, Zhuge Luo, Yang Xiu, He Jin, Lei Tong, Liu Ye, Lu Su, Zhong Hui, Zhang Yi 1, Xiahou Wei, Yu Fan, Ma Su, Cao Ang, Li Dian, Yan Zheng, Cao Zhang, Zhou Xin, Dong Tu Ne, King Mulu, Ma Zun, Yan Yu, Zhao Fan, Bao Long, He Yi, Hu Zhi, Liu Yan, Xin Ping, Bian Xi, Cao Xing, Dong Xi, Kong Xiu, Liu Qi, Meng You, Pei Yuan Shao, Yan Gang, Chen Dao, Cheng Yin, Fu Shi Ren, Han Xuan, Liu Pi, Lu Xiang, Yang Feng. Crossbows --------- Same like the archers, except they carry crossbows instead of normal bows. Owner: Kanetsugu Naoe, Mao Dun, Pang Tong, Zhuge Liang, Gongsun Sheng, Han Xin, Yu Jin, Ma Dai, Tian Feng, Xun Yu, Zhang Bao 2, Sima Zhao, Guo Si, Fan Chou, Guo Hai, Sun Qian, Zhou Fang, Zhang Man Cheng, Zhu Ran, Zhu Ling, Chunyu Qiong, Han Meng, Liu Xun 2, Su Fei, Huangfu Song, Li Meng, Liu Biao, Sun Shao, Wei Xu, Xiahou Mao. Lady Guard ---------- The female privates in the game. They can either carry swords (attack only once each time like regular troops) or bows. Owned only by high class officers. Owner: Hu San Niang, Ranmaru Mori, Wu Song, Ginchiyo Tachibana, Gu Dasao, Nene, Noh, Sun Er Niang, Xing Cai, Yue Ying, Zhen Ji, Da Qiao, Diao Chan, Okuni, Xiao Qiao. Sorcerers --------- Like archers, sorcerers are long range privates. They attack by raising their hand and throw an iceberg towards the enemy. The damage is low, but sometimes they can freeze the enemy, giving another unit chance to give significant damage easily. They're only owned by high class officers. Like Archers and Crossbows, they're stationery unless you approach them. Owner: Zuo Ci, Jiang Taigong, Master Lao, Zhang Jiao. Bombardiers ----------- Another long range privates. You should recognize them quickly do to their odd appearance. They throw bombs to a specific distance and blow everything that caught in the explosion, including their allies. The bombs burn the victims and cast them flying mid-air. Unlike Huang Gai's bombs, however, theirs can kill units, but the bombs do very little damage, if not packed with the fire effect. Same AI with any other ranged privates. Owner: Huang Gai, Magoichi, Ju Shou, Quan Zong, Lu Fan, Ma Xiu, Li Jue, Wang Fang, Niou Fu, Jin Xuan, Liu Yong, Liu Du, Cao Bao, Liu Chan, Qin Qi, Zhang Kai. ------------------ 4.2 Abilities, Symbol: Star ------------------ Active skills that you can activate during a battle. Each officer may have at most 1, either at start or by unlocking them through rank up. Once activated, a red circle will appear that slowly thurns white. This shows that the ability is reloading to be reused again. Once it's completely white, you can use it again. The reload speed is different dpending on the ability. How to use : When in a battlefield, select the officer whose ability is ready to use (marked with a star) using up and down buttons in d-pad. Then activate the ability by using the right button. (Default cntrol settings) The abilities here are not arranged alphabetically. Message from Dong Zhe: "Almost every bonus in this game is cumulative except those blue/green/red ones." Following that info, I now add the Cumulative to show what possible cumulative effect that might happens by using more than one ability or support with the same result. Below is how to use this part, and the next part. Ability / Support name "The in-game description" My own description Owner: Officers who have this ability Cooldown (Ability only): Time required for the ability to be reused again Cumulative: Possible effects when used more than one. Some skills work instantly, so it can't be considered cumulative and this part will not appear. Some confirmed to have no cumulative effect, others are logically impossible. Note that most are untested unless otherwise noted. Note: -The cooldown here is approximate. It serves only as a comparison to indicate wether an ability can be used often or not. I completely forgot what officers I use when looking for this, but I know they don't have the support Prowess nor Reward. Different officers might or might not have different cooldown. -If there's "Quick refill with low/high morale", it means if you used the ability when your morale is lower/higher than your enemy's, then you'll only have to wait for half of the ability's cooldown time. -Remember that temporary status effect (those with flashing color) can get along with each other. So it is possible to use Charge, Promotion, Critical and Strike with the Support Scramble and Fortify and all those modifier will be active until their own time limit. -There are lots of different Skills that grants the Attackx2 for a certain time. However, when one takes effect while another is still active, it will replace the time limit with its own, effectively nullifying the first activated. Cumulative: Bigger bonus for the same number of allies. Backup ------ "Number of allies raises attack at battle start" With the same explaination sentence with Euphoria, I'm sure this work just the same. Instead of giving extra morale bar, though, this grants extra attack damage. Logically more preferable since lots of allies = high morale already. One thing to note is that there are no red flash during my experience, so the bonus might not be 2x, but more or less. Owner: Pang Tong, Yuan Shao. Cumulative: Ditto Firmness -------- "Player stunned less by enemy blows" It's like Charge Bracer from DW5, but it affects your entire attacks. Thanks again to Dong Zhe. Well, when you pick an officer to bring with that has a story relationship, or just almost same personality with your character or your deployed officer, you'll form a combination. This combination can be formed between you and your officers, or between your officers. The benefit is more bonus stats. No extra abilities, no combination attacks, nothing special. Combinations is formed by choosing 2 or 3 appropiate officers. It doesn't matter which one is your character, or maybe both are your deployed officers. You can't have generic officers as your character, remember. The bonus stats you get from several combinations are same, so I put the combinations categorized by their bonus. I also write the name and officers required for each combinations. ----------- Life +23 Musou +72 Attack +11 Defense +11 Growth +8 ----------- Undying Loyalty --------------- Liu Bei + Zhao Yun Mr. and Mrs. Zhou ----------------- Zhou Yu + Xiao Qiao Mr. and Mrs. Liu ---------------- Liu Bei + Sun Shang Xiang Feather and Sword ----------------- Sun Quan + Lu Meng Former Loyalty -------------- Yuan Shao + Zhang He Intimate Peers -------------- Huang Zhong + Wei Yan The Two Qiaos ------------- Da Qiao + Xiao Qiao Sound Heroes ------------ Huang Zhong + Yan Yan ----------- Life +48 Attack +24 Defense +24 Growth +17 ----------- Garden Oath ----------- Liu Bei + Guan Yu + Zhang Fei Dragon and Phoenix ------------------ Zhuge Liang + Pang Tong ----------- Life +72 Musou +72 ----------- Valiant Loyalty --------------- Sun Jian + Huang Gai Inevitable Fate --------------- Gan Ning + Ling Tong Fugitives --------- Xiahou Mao + Ma Zun Heirs of Chaos -------------- Li Jue + Guo Si ----------- Life +57 Attack +28 ----------- Reliable Peers -------------- Zhao Yun + Huang Zhong Guan Clan --------- Guan Yu + Guan Ping Mr. and Mrs. Sun ---------------- Sun Ce + Da Qiao Southern Kings -------------- Meng Huo + King Duosi + King Mulu ----------- Life +57 Defense +28 ----------- Zhang Clan ---------- Zhang Fei + Xing Cai Spirited Friends ---------------- Dian Wei + Xu Zhu Benign Loyalty -------------- Cao Cao + Xu Zhu Invaluable Friends ------------------ Liu Bei + Zhuge Liang Mr. and Mrs. Zhuge ------------------ Zhuge Liang + Yue Ying Protecting Loyalty ------------------ Sun Quan + Zhou Tai Simply Friends -------------- Xu Huang + Cao Ren Yuan Brothers ------------- Yuan Tan + Yuan Xi + Yuan Shang Traitors -------- Zhang Song + Fa Zheng ----------- Musou +72 Attack +36 ----------- Proud Friends ------------- Guan Yu + Zhang Liao Honest Friends -------------- Sun Ce + Zhou Yu Little Brother -------------- Sun Quan + Sun Shang Xiang Champion Archers ---------------- Huang Zhong + Xiahou Yuan Dark Loyalty ------------ Cao Pi + Sima Yi Silent Heroes ------------- Wei Yan + Zhou Tai ----------- Musou +72 Defense +36 ----------- Handsome Comrades ----------------- Xiahou Yuan + Zhang He Ma Brothers ----------- Ma Liang + Ma Su Loyal Retainers ----------------- Shen Pei + Zhang Ren ----------- Attack +28 Growth +20 ----------- Bound by Fate ------------- Lu Bu + Diao Chan Shu Scholars ------------ Zhuge Liang + Jiang Wei Cao Clan -------- Cao Cao + Cao Pi Fierce Loyalty -------------- Lu Bu + Zhang Liao Elder Brother ------------- Sun Ce + Sun Shang Xiang Ling Clan --------- Ling Cao + Ling Tong Zhang Siblings -------------- Xing Cai + Zhang Bao ----------- Defense +28 Growth +20 ----------- Academic Friends ---------------- Zhuge Liang + Lu Xun Style Evangelists ----------------- Zhang He + Zhen Ji Southern Chiefs --------------- Ahui Nan + Jinhuan SanJie + Dailai Dongzhu Heirs of Shu ------------ Liu Chan + Jiang Wei ----------- Attack +28 Defense +28 ----------- Sworn Friends ------------- Cao Cao + Xiahou Dun Firm Loyalty ------------ Cao Cao + Dian Wei War Comrades ------------ Sun Ce + Taishi Ci Worthy Opponents ---------------- Zhuge Liang + Sima Yi Father and Daughter ------------------- Sun Jian + Sun Shang Xiang Older Son --------- Sun Jian + Sun Ce Xi Gentlemen ------------ Ma Chao + Pang De Casual Acquaintance ------------------- Lu Meng + Gan Ning Mr. and Mrs. Cao ---------------- Cao Pi + Zhen Ji ----------- Life +144 ----------- Old Friends ----------- Cao Cao + Yuan Shao Guan Brothers ------------- Guan Ping + Guan Xing + Guan Suo ----------- Attack +72 ----------- Mutual Interest --------------- Dong Zhuo + Diao Chan Accursed Adoption ----------------- Dong Zhuo + Lu Bu Younger Son ----------- Sun Jian + Sun Quan King and Queen -------------- Meng Huo + Zhu Rong Guan Du Heroes -------------- Yan Liang + Wen Chou Tiger Hunt ---------- Wu Song + Tiger ----------- Defense +72 ----------- Strategist Legacy ----------------- Zhou Yu + Lu Meng + Lu Xun ----------- Growth +50 ----------- Xiahou Brothers --------------- Xiahou Dun + Xiahou Yuan Wu Scholars ----------- Lu Meng + Lu Xun Illusionist Trio ---------------- Zhang Jiao + Pang Tong + Zuo Ci Childhood Friends ----------------- Guan Ping + Xing Cai Wealthy Friends ----------------- Mi Zhu + Li Dian + Lu Su ----------- Growth +25 ----------- Former Bond ----------- Yuan Shao + Zhen Ji Faithful Son ------------ Jiang Wei + Xu Shu ----------------------------- 6. Hints and Tips ----------------------------- Here are some infos that I found are important yet irrelevant with the other parts of this FAQ (or maybe with the FAQs itself). I was once thinking about making a short FAQ about events for certain difficult stages, but now I'm too busy with my other gaming research and school stuff (as explained earlier). -Not only required for scoring 100% in a stage, but villages also provide you with a few amount of supplies (extra time for the stage), a little extra health (about a Recovery++ worth), full Musou and full Rage (sometime yes, sometime not, unsure). Consider picking them when time is running short. -Known possible requirements in liberating villages (they're random): +Kill x number of bandits, easy. +Kill bandit leader, even easier. +Kill all bandits. They won't regenerate but possibly the hardest task to accomplish, as they're usually scattered around. +Protect the villagers. At some visits few are allowed to die, but other times all must survive. Usually just a squad of peasants, but can be more. They have a tendency to move around when no bandits nearby. While this is extremely annoying, you can use this as your advantage, as bandits themselves prefer attacking you instead of the villagers, as long as you are close enough to draw attention. For example, try sparing one bandit, be it ranged or melee, stand in front of him / her and guard position. +Protect the village elder. Pretty much the same as previous, but you have to protect a single or more unit/s which is les durable than a patrol captain. They have an appearance of Strategists (example Zhang Liang and Xun You). Usually none may be killed. Slightly easier as elders are more durable than peasants nonetheless. Still, they can't attack nor block attacks, just as the villagers. Time limit generally 60 seconds for all missions. -Here are the guarding pink units inside every area. They are more powerful, aggresive, and grants more exp, but still easy to kil in one or two combos, unless you're playing in high difficulty or have a pathetic Attack points: +Open Fileds: 3 Patrol Captains +Supply Depots, big and small: 2 Patrol Captains and a Defense Captain +Attack and Defense bases: 2 Patrol Captains and 2 Gate Captains +Fortresses: 2 Patrol Captains and 2 Defense Captains +Strongholds and Main Camps: 2 Patrol Captains and 3 Defense Captains Note that the number of the captains might be reduced if the morale start lower than the default. That is, 3 bars for bases and fortresses and 5 bars for strongholds and main camps. Since morale bar can't start below 1 bar, open fields and depots always start as they should be. -Now the explanation of them (note that all can execute musou attack): +Patrol Captains: With the appearance of either guards or elite troops, they always carry a sword and has the sword-warrior officer movelist. Not very powerful, but agressive and blocks often as any standard officer. +Gate Captains: Depending on what type of base you're on the Gate Captain's appearance and movelist differ. However, both have less health than a Patrol Captain and their musou attack are interruptable like any standard attacking, more safely by Musou-ing them (instead of a deadlock occuring, the Gate Captain immediately stop his musou and got hit). *Defense Base: Seems heavily armored and equiped with Xing Cai's weaponry, fork and shield. The armor grants them Firmness, but also cause their attack to be extremely slow, making them an interesting target for conterattacking (check Parry). The shield cause them to (logically) blocks more often than their Attack Base counterparts. The fork, however, grant them movelist like that of Pang De's instead of Xing Cai's, but their weapon is not a pair. They can only attack thrice like guards, and cannot execute charge attack, except C1 in which they charge forward like spear privates. The difference is that they charge further and do more damage. In their Musou attack they execute a thrust, slash, then slam which cause a minor shockwave to block-break nearby enemy units. In groups they usually C1 together. *Attack Base: Wears much lighter armor and uses Lu Xun's weapon, two swords. While they can't take as much punishment as the defense gate captains, they sure move and attack faster. In fact, their move speed is just as fast as Lu Xun (who is nearly the fastest runner) and their attack speed is fast as Ling Tong. Worse is that their attack damage is quite devastating, especially when the Attack x2 bonus is still active. About their movelist, they attack up to 5 times, complete with the charge attacks, although they rarely pull that off. For complete view, buy the DW 5 Empires. Their Musou is similar to Pang De's, except it is done really fast. Musou and C1 are usually done together with their squad. +Defense Captains: They randomly have the appearance and movelist of a sword-strategist officer, spear-warrior officer, or pike-moustache officer. More powerful than any other captains. -After scoring 400 KOs and its multiplies (800, 1200, and so on), one of the enemy officer which is still active in the stage will immediately charge towards you, and most probably he/she is not the one who plays the important role, say, the commander. The raging officer will instantly leave their current objective, have 5 morale stars and leveled up higher than you by one or two. (If you have been maximumly leveled, 10, then he/she will also be level 10.) This officer moves at high speed in the map and will tackle most obstacles they found save a group of 3 allied officers, and defeating them grants you a lot of exp and a weapon or mount. If they got reveived later (in a stronghold, fortress or main camp), the level will still be the same, but his/her morale will drop to the standard 2 stars and will acquire the former objective. While this is a nice way to hunt weapons or mount, be careful of doing this in higher difficulty. Not only extremely powerful, they can add some trouble if you're currently busy occupying a building. -You can also gain a weapon or mount via occupying a Treasure Trove (there is a time limit, but not as short as if you are trying to pick the guardian as you officer) or defeating a certain powerful enemy in the stage (sometimes the commander are accounted to it). -Maximum in-stage level is 10, said above. Further killing will not net you extra exp for the stage (but it still gives you after-stage exp). Therefore, it might be a good choice to spare some officer or captain KOs to your own officer (not allied officer). They might not be that useful in high level, but it's still beter than just killing and gains 0 exp. -Speaking about in-stage exp, whenever you, or your officer, gains exp (via KOing of course), your deployed officers will get a small percentage of it. If your officers gains exp, you'll also get some. Same applies to allied and enemy officers. -When retreating (alone), here are things that could happen other than losing 1 morale star: +If you're attacking an enemy area then retreat, that's it. If you re-enter that area again later, the area's morale will start at default. Consider retreating after defeating an officer with high morale and re-enter as you might take more time to occupy the area straight. +If you're defending your area from an enemy unit then retreat, provided that all enemy unit has been defeated, the enemy morale in that area will instantly drop to 0, without having you to clean up. This is important because sometimes you have to kill more enemy privates just because the enemy morale hasn't been zero'ed yet. It's faster to just get out. +Unfotunately, think again if there is an enemy unit in the same area as you. Retreating is considered as defeat, thus increasing their morale by 1 star. -Things will differ if an allied unit is in the same area when you retreat: +The morale of the enemy area will not change, as your ally is still fighting there. Things to note is that you can re-enter that area and found the morale has been reset if that unit is finally defeated. Additionally, AI units can seize an area without zero'ing the enemy morale there. +Retreating from an owned area after kicking all enemy units off will still turn the enemy morale to 0. However, my experiences show that the allied unit staying there might not get a morale increase (1 star) unless you help them to mop up. +Retreating from an enemy unit while having an ally in your position will not increase the enemy's morale, as the battle is not over yet. -If you assault a building with an oficer or more in it, that unit's high officer (the ones that lead a unit like you) will not appear, leaving his / her lower officers and troops holding you at bay. You can slaughter them if you like. Later after the morale has been lowered enough, the high officer will appear, allowing you to win the battle, along with any defeated lower officers, with FULL HEALTH. The morale limit to force this to happen is 3 bars (number 2 and a full bar) and 1 bar higher for each unit more than 1 (4 bars for 2 unit, 5 for 3). If a unit arrives after you attacked the area, s/he won't be hiding, so you can directly defeat them. This doesn't apply to you side, unfortunately. -By the way, not all buildings in the game can contain 3 units from the same side, and the limit are not type-based. You may find a main camp which can only accomodate 2 units (from each side), while in other stages there's an open field able to load up to 3 units each, 6 units total. -Speaking about multi-unit battles, no matter how big the area is, troops from all units fighting can be fielded (although the number might be reduced to prevent overcrowding). When the unit is defeated, the troops retreat. This doesn't apply when the only unit of a side in an area is defeated. In this case, the area can host 'stray troops' of that 1 unit, along with any surviving deployed officers. They will keep fighting until either the battle is over or another unit from the same side arrives, effectively replacing those troops with their own. This rules applies for both sides. But since you can never watch a battle without being involved (you are 1 unit), this doesn't really matter for your side. -Your allies can never defeat the enemy commander by themselves, nor executing the death blow to him/her. Don't wait for your allies to take on the boss 3-on-1. They could, however, defeat the secondary commander. -With appropriate weaponry, we can save ourself from being surrounded by lots of pink dots. AI controlled officers, though, don't. If you see in your minimap there are a bunch of pink dots along with cyan dots, the side with more dots will most certainly wipe the other. The more dots gathered, the faster the slaughter. Whenever you enter a building, especially a base, with your allies already invaded it, it is a good idea to rush in and ensure they are fine. If you watch the pinks vs. cyans battle yourself, it won't be as destructive, but remember that the pinks might turn against you. -Most enemy units in this game prefer attacking you if you get close enough. You might want to save your officer or ally by using yourself as bait. ----------------------------- 7. Credits and Contact ----------------------------- GameFAQs, for accepting this FAQ.
