I had the same problem, but here is the answer:

On the Main Menu of the PSP, go to the very left

Go all the way down, and select Network Settings

Select Ad Hoc Mode

Select Auotmatic, and then save your settings.

Yay! Now your PSP System is ready for Wireless Play! But in case you knew that, let's expand a bit further...

See the switch on the left side of your PSP? The one with a M with lines under it, and a box with waves coming from it? Make sure it is on the Box.

Now, head to the Untold Legends game, and select your character.

Now, depending on who's missions you want to do, select a host. Say that Bob is stuck on a mission, and you want t help Bob with that mission. To do Bob's missions, make Bob select Host Multiplayer. Everybody else should click Join Multiplayer. Now, look for Bob's name on the list of people, and select it. Now you're playing with your friend

P.S. It doesn't always say Bob, that was just my corny example :)
