Question for Monster Hunter Freedom

I have a couple questions
First off can you combine anything to make a poison sac etc.
Second where do you get novacrystils
Third can someone tell me what the best weopon is between great and short swords

You can't combine anything to make a pioson sac but if you can't kill a gycepros or bassarios then you can cet them off iodrome and maybe ioprey to get nova crystals you need mining point 2 which you can get by deafeating a rathalos (the 4* urgent quest) and between shortswords and great swords it's a matter of oppinion I normaly use a great sword if it's a big wevren or I have to kill lots of wevrens but I do use a short sword for fighting bassarios(a tactic I highly recomend)
