Well to tell the truth...its really all up to you. See I suggest that you try all the characters out and see which is for you, like it differs between people. My best is Zidane but my best friends is Tidus. So it depends on who you are really. Oh but Sephiroth is good....just cause his attack are fast....

Cloud is good to start with, but for the long run it has to be the Warrior of Light. He is easy imo to control with attacks and is better to use against Chaos.

There is also Exdeath that really owns Chaos, but you wont get him at the start.

Personally it depends on what you find more valuable; speed strength etc. Or if you like long range attacks, short range or magic. It doesn't really matter because if you want the villian side you have to complete them all anyway.

Warrior of Light, or Onion Knight. Master using the Warrior and you have a very well-rounded combat style, where height dosen't matter. Onion Knight can be powerful, expecially with an accessory that can utilize Iai-strike *small chance to hit opponent for their brv and break them, giving you their bravery stage brv* with his ninja EX mode

i mostly use cloud and tidus, just beacause between the two, you have a good mix of power, speed, and dodging ability

Shantoto ftw just outsmart everybody with it none can beat me when I'm using shantoto.

Sephiroth is probably the best, as he has a quick, yet powerful attacking style and a few good ranged, and ALSO blocking moves. But you have to buy him from PP Catalog,though.
