Introduction

Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition. This game came out in 1999 and was one of the fastest selling games in history. I got my Yellow the first day it came out. The game follows the anime closely, with a few minor changes. Giovanni uses Persian in battle and Jessie and James are just simply called "Rocket". Some peeople complained about no Missingno. In the game when there was in fact a Missingno, they just had to look harder. The game is more difficult than it's predecessors, but it seems to bring more joy to people when they complete it.

Graphics

I rate the graphics of Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition 5/10 because they are lame. I would rate them lower but they were good for their time, much better than Pokmon Red and Blue or Super Mario Bros. The main problem with the graphics is when you are using the Pokmon. Heck, just the other day I was using my Charmeleon but you know what he looked like? A big blob. The only Pokmon you can really tell apart from just a mix of colors is Pikachu! Nintendo should have tried harder on that stuff.

Sound

I rate the sound of Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition 4/10 because the sound is horrible. It's terrible, horrible, even disgusting. The Pokmon's cries sound like my dishwasher if I dropped it out of an airplane into a volcano. Not a good sound. Pikachu's cry is the only one that sounds like the Pokmon! The music is better though. I liked the Polly Wolly Doodle-all-day song for the Underground Paths. The Game Corner music (not the basement) was also good and so was the Celadon City music but other than that, yuck.

Gameplay

I gave the gameplay of Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Eddition 9/10 because it has almost excellent gameplay. The gameplay is one of the best in the entire Pokmon Series! (Not as good as Pokmon Pearl or Diamond, but close) It's gameplay is just all around good.

Lastability

I gave the lastability of Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition an 8/10 because it was a pretty long game for it's time. You had to trade with other games which made it somewhat harder, there were 151 Pokmon in the game (now there are 492 but back then 151 was a lot), and you had to keep Piakchu in a good mood. Well you didn't have to, but you were supposed to. An easy way to get Pikachu to like you is to take the potion out of your PC and use it on Pikachu before he's lost any health so it will say "It will have no effect." Pikachu will become happy if you do it about five times. Another hardship was getting Mew. Him and Mewtwo may be the most sought after Pokmon in Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition. Here is the way to get Mew just in case you don't know:

(You must have Fly or Teleport to do this)

Stand in front of the Underground Entrance from Lavander Town to Celadon City. Save.

Take a step down and immediately press start. If the Gambler saw you, shut off the game then turn it back on and try again.

Fly or teleport to Cerulen City.

Walk up Nugget Bridge and then fight the youngster with the level 17 Slowpoke.

After you beat him, Fly back to Lavander.

Once you take a few steps to the left the Start Menu will pop up. Press B to fight Mew!

Overall

I rate Pokmon Yellow: Special Pikachu Eddition 8/10 overall. I would reccomend this game for someone who wants a taste of the older gaming experiance or someone who wants to see what Pokmon looked like now compared to Pokmon Diamond and Pearl. One thing's for sure, Pokmon sure had come a long way since this game!

Until next time, I'm OMG MILK THE COWS!

Final Score: 68%
