Pokemon Red Glitches - Inclusive To All Copies

Evolutionary Stone Glitch: In this glitch, Pokemon that can be evolved with the use of an Evolutionary Stone can be evolved without the use of one. The player must first send out a Pokemon in battle and then switch it out with a Pokemon, with equal game identifiers, that is holding the Evolutionary Stone the first Pokemon needs in order to evolve, finishing the battle with the second Pokemon. The glitch only works if the first Pokemon that is to evolve levels up in the battle.

Example: If you send out a Pikachu as your lead, but switch it out for a Growlithe that is holding a thunderstone and the Growlithe finishes the battle and Pikahcu levels up, Pikachu will evolve because of the glitch.

A few glitch Pokemon with unusual flags may evolve with this glitch after exposure to an item, which isn't necessarily an Evolutionary Stone.

MissingNo - Fire Stone

Growlithe - Thunderstone

Psyduck - Leaf Stone

Exeggutor - Moon Stone

Onix - Water Stone

Indoors Fishing Glitch: In this glitch, both the Cerulean Gym and the Elite Four Room of Lorelei have actual water tiles that a player can fish on indoors. It was a glitch that was corrected in Pokemon Yellow.

Invisible PC Glitch: In this glitch, a number of buildings have an invisible PC built in their maps that a player can access. The most noteable is in the Celadon Hotel, where a play could stand where the PC would be in the Pokemon Center and access it from there. There are also a number of other invisible PCs, like in the rest houses in the Safari Zone, but these other ones can't be access without memory hacking or code execution.

Lift Key Glitch: In this glitch, if the player is standing to the left of the Team Rocket Guard that has the lift key in Rocket's Hideout, the key with actually appear under the player after the battle. The player can still obtain the lift key if they move downward and pick it up.

New Game Cry Glitch: In this glitch, if a player should start a new game and watch the tutorial that begins the game, they will see that Nidorino is shown but Nidorina's cry is heard.

Oak Delivery Text Glitch: In this glitch, if the player has caught no Pokemon and no PokeBalls in his bag after defeating their Rival on Route 22, Professor Oak will give the player five free PokeBalls when talked to. When he's talking, one of the dialogue lines appears over the previous dialogue line. In the Italian Version of the Games, a word will even overlap the far right border of the text box.

Overworld Sprites Glitch: In this glitch, a number of sprites are misplaced after following a set of guildlines:

If a player surfs on the east coast of Cinnabar Island without having the Secret Key and returns to the island directly in front of the Gym, a man will suddenly appear of the roof of the Gym.

A similiar mishap occures if a player walks into the Vermilion Gym, going directly left and then up and hit the far bottom-left trash bin and click on it. One of the trainser in the Gym will quickly be moved from place back to their original as the text box disappeard.

And even a third glitch happens in the Gate to Cycle Road, done exactly like the Vermilion City one. A man, in this glitch, will appear standing behind the guard.

Walking With Fainted Pokemon Glitch: In this glitch, if a player has a few fainted Pokemon and a few that are still alive, a player can deposit all the healed Pokemon in the PC and carry around only fainted Pokemon. The player, however, will black out after taking three steps. But if the game is save after taking two steps, the count resets. This means, if done properly, a player can enter a battle with only fainted Pokemon.

Skipping Pewter City Gym Glitches and Sub-Glitch: Probably one of the most iconic glitches of Pokemon Red and Blue. In this glitch, a player can successful leave Pewter City without facing the gym, and it can be done in three different methods:

Walking In Front Of The Youngster - In this method, the player must first open the menu and move the cursor over the save button without selecting it. The player must then walk on the tile directly in front of the Youngster guarding the path to Route 3 on the east side of the city. The player must close the text boxes with only the B-Button, and then must immediately press start and save the game. This will force the player to reset the game, and when back in the game, the conversation with the youngster will happen again and the player will then be forced to follow him. After following him, however, he will be gone and not guarding the path. The player then can get to Route 3 by walking over the tile where the Youngster once stood. If they step over any other tile, then will be forced back to the gym.

Walking Away From The Youngster - In this method, the player must first open the menu and move the cursor over the save button without selecting it. The player must then walk in front of Youngster guarding the path to Route 3 on the east side of the city with at least one tile between them and him, which will allow the player to walk two tiles past him. The player must close the text boxes with only the B-Button, and then must immediately press start and save the game. This will force the player to reset the game, and when back in the game, the conversation with the youngster will happen again, but the player will NOT be forced to follow him. They will gain access to Route 3 immediately. however, if the player walks back in the sight of the Youngster from the east, they will walk down infinitively.

Safari Zone - In this method, you must skip the youngster once with one of the two above method in order to warp to the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. This time, if the player perfomrs the intial steps of the Glitch City glitch and runs out of steps when the Youngster is escort the player back to the Pewter Gym, the player will be warped immediately to the Safari Zone. If the player steps on the exit of the Safari Zone, they will come out of the Pewter City Poke Mart. The youngster will then make his way back to his post, giving the player the chance to make it to Route 3, but you have to be quick. However, if the player saves and reset the game, the Youngster will turn and keep walking one step left of the sign and be trapped in a loop, giving a player more than enough time make it to Route 3.

"Brock" Through Walls Sub-Glitch - In this sub-glitch, a player can essentially walk through all walls of the game. In order to perform this mini glitch, a player must select Bulbasaur as their Starter Pokemon. It must be at Level 8 with the moves Leech Seed, Tackle (With 16 Remaining PP), and Growl (With 36 Remaining PP). The player must then use any of the three stpes above to pass the youngster to get to Route 3. The player must then enter and exit a different location and come back to the Youngster. They then must view the stats of Bulbasaur and then speak to the Youngster from the right side. As long as the player doesn't stop walking after this, this glitch will work just like a walkthrough walls glitch.
