Introduction

Oh lord, Explorers of Sky. The game universally known for it's amazing soundtrack and constantly praised for being the best entry into the Mystery Dungeon portion of Pokemon ever. Some would even argue that it's superior to the core series games, and they're well justified in doing so.

Graphics

The graphics may seem outdated and with the 3D models the fanbase is used to, Explorers is hard to return to. However, much like B2W2 is to OR/AS, the sprites used in Explorers are generally better than the blank, badly animated models seen in the likes of Gates or Super. To those who entered the fanbase anywhere before Generation Six, however, it should be no trouble warming up to the sprites.
Plus, some of the sprites are just straight-up awesome. It feels great to walk around a dungeon as a Darkrai.

Sound

Oh Arceus, the sound. More than anything, Explorers of Sky is revered for it's incredible soundtrack, and for good reason. The tracks are expertly composed and clearly have much care and attention put into them - however, if I had to list a complaint, it'd be that the majority of the game's brilliant songs are overshadowed by Dialga's Fight To The Finish, the ever-loved final boss theme.

Gameplay

The gameplay is directly improved from Rescue Team, and feels very natural compared to the likes of Gates. The dungeon generation is near-perfect and surprisingly the game is challenging (of course, not Super-level challenging, which is straight up unfair, but definitely enough to give yourself a pat on the back after a difficult dungeon or defeating a big bad outlaw).

Lastability

When it comes to post-game content, Sky truly shines. There's a secondary campaign just as good as the first, as well as stuff like Shaymin Village and all the rare dungeons unlocked through random rescue requests and Spinda's Cafe. The Seven Legendary Treasures are more than enough to keep anyone entertained, and the likes of Destiny Tower or Zero Isle are there for anyone who wants a true challenge.

Overall

Explorers of Sky was an exceptional game and one of the most enjoyable Pokemon experiences to date, the majority of if not all Pokemon are obtainable, and the game has been upgraded heavily from Time and Darkness, making Sky definitely worth a play even if you're not a fan of roguelikes (or Pokemon at all).

Final Score: 86%
